Sink your teeth into Android Nougat
[MUSIC]
Hey there, welcome to NuGet news network.
I'm Xiomara Blanco and I have great news.
Android Nougat is here.
Of course, Google devices like the Next SP and SQL T tablet are the first to get the new operating system.
For what to expect when they get the upgrade I'm gonna throw it to section editor, Jessica Dorkhort in our newsroom Well, Xiomara it's actually kind of a sneaky update because the most important things happen behind the scenes to make everything run a little bit smoother and faster.
So, obvious changes you're gonna see here are gonna be with notifications.
You can now reply directly in an alert and you can expand some notifications to do more with them right from the pull down menu.
Another major change is split screen mode.
Which you can open to work on two apps at the same time.
You can, also, double tap the recent button if you want to flip through your two most recent apps.
Google hasn't left out the fun stuff, either.
They are mojis that have either been completely updated or brand new to Android.
And there's my favorite.
A not-so-secret secret game that lets you collect cats.
CatSEO, what do you think about that?
I'm more of a dog person myself, but what will they think of next?
Now, with even more new Nougat features and what's different about Nougat on Android tablets, here's senior editor Sean Hollister live from CNET's VR room.
Hey, Sean.
Hey, Zia.
Can you tell us about some of the differences between the operating system on tablets versus phones?
Absolutely.
If you like multitasking, you're gonna be spending a lot more time with your app split horizontally instead of vertically.
It's not quite as convenient for YouTube but it makes a lot of sense for calendars and [INAUDIBLE] And Nougat has got another invisible benefit, battery life.
When your phone is in a pocket or purse, it will put your apps to sleep to save juice.
Great, now before you get back to your game, in your expert opinion what does Nougat's arrival mean for virtual reality?
Google swears up and down that Nougat's going to bring awesome VR to lots of Android phones, but it still sounds like a daydream to me.
Anyway, I gotta finish making these copies in Job Simulator before I get fired.
Here Zeo.
Thanks Shawn.
So there you have it folks.
Android Nougat's major changes work below the surface, with a few extras sprinkled here and there.
This Android 7.0 release is already rolling out to Nexus phones and tablets.
Look for other device makers to update starting this fall.
For Nougat Network News, I'm [UNKNOWN] Blanco, thanks for tuning in.
