Speaker 1: Okay. The iPhone 13 is only a few months old, which means there are plenty of reports about the next iPhone. Here are the most exciting rumors about the iPhone. 14. Speaker 1: First up is a new notch list. Display noted, apple analyst. Minchi quote expects the iPhone 14 to a feature display with a little hole punch for the camera. This would mark a big departure for apple, which has gone all in on the notch since the iPhone 10 [00:00:30] inside that notch was an infrared camera, a flood illuminator, proximity sensor, ambient light sensor, speaker, microphone, front camera, and a do projector. That's a lot of stuff. It wasn't until the iPhone 13. Did we see the notch get smaller in width? But here's the thing. The not is kind of important. If you want face ID to work. When apple introduced face ID, Phil Scher talked about how secure it was by comparing it to touch ID, the chance that a random person [00:01:00] could unlock your phone using touch ID was one in 50,000 with face ID. The chance that a random person could unlock your phone was one in a million. Speaker 1: So how would face ID work with just one small hole? Apple would have to figure a way to get some of that tech that was in the, not either to the bezzle or under the display itself. We've seen underplay cameras before. Take a look at the galaxy fold three S inner screen. There's a lower pixel density where [00:01:30] the camera is assuming that this is the latest and best tech out there. Would apple be comfortable with a less pixel dense area on its own displays? Is that worse than the notch? Alternatively, apple likely working on ways to make it sensors even smaller. Maybe this is how touch ID comes back to the iPhone. Minchi quote said the iPhone 14 could support an under display touch ID, but that could be delayed due to lower than expected development progress. That probably means [00:02:00] that the under display touch ID does not work as well as apple would like. Speaker 1: Bloomberg's mark Garman said that the under display touch ID was tested on the iPhone 13, but that never made it to market. Also, unless touch ID security is improved. Apple will have to figure out some kind of way to explain why it would move from a more secure face ID to a less secure touch ID system. It still looks like face ID is the future. As Goman said, that Apple's long term goal is to implement face ID in [00:02:30] the display itself. And as an aside, apple just introduced the notch to its MacBook pro line. For whatever reason would apple at a notch to one product only to drop it from another. Maybe that brings us the next rumor, and that is a redesign, but don't expect an earth shattering change. The last major redesign was the iPhone 12 with its iPhone four, like styling, flat sides and more squared off corners. Speaker 1: The design before the 12 was essentially the same one since the iPhone six. [00:03:00] So what would the iPhone 14 look like? According to front page text John Prosser, the next iPhone could be thicker to do away with a camera bump on the back. Would an iPhone get thicker? Well in the recent past, apple has shown the ability to move away from thinness in particular, in talking about the newest MacBook pros, the 16 inch one is thicker and heavier than the previous generation. So it is possible that the iPhone 14 could get a little thicker. The apple iPhone [00:03:30] 13 Promax is a little thicker than the 12 Promax. I don't know if apple will bulk up the 14 to meet the current camera bump on the 13. Then again, the rumor is that this is the Samsung galaxy S 22 ultra with its protruding rings. It would not surprise me if apple Zed, while Samsung zagged, according to minchi quote, apple may use a Periscope style telephoto camera in the 14, like the galaxy S 20 ultra or the Wawe P 30 series a Periscope design lets the optics fit into to a thinner [00:04:00] phone. Speaker 1: Since it uses a prism to bend the light 90 degrees, larger components can be put into the body of the device. This may also allow apple to put in its usual great cameras into a tighter space while adding a bit of bulk to their casing to make the rear camera assembly flush. Let's talk about iPhone 14 models now, right now there's the iPhone 13, the iPhone 13 pro the iPhone 13 pro max and the iPhone 13 mini minchi quote says we could be looking at four models for [00:04:30] the 14, but the mini would get the X. There would be the iPhone 14, the iPhone 14 max, the iPhone 14 pro and the iPhone 14 pro max, the max designation would refer to size and the pro would refer to specs. The 14 and 14 pro would both have 6.1 inch screens. The two max models would be at 6.7 inches. Speaker 1: Will these screens finally get and always on display like the apple watch and countless Android phones. [00:05:00] Bloomberg's marker. Irman mentioned that an always on display was a possibility for the iPhone 13 and as we know that didn't happen. And to all you Android people out there that's right. The iPhone still does not have an always on display to you. iPhone people. The always on display is really, really useful when you want glanceable information. Could a next iPhone have USBC? It is possible. Maybe not because apple wants to go USBC, but because the European union has [00:05:30] a proposal on the table that will require phones and other electronic devices to include a common USBC charging port. This would reduce waste by letting people use their old chargers on new devices. That could mean the end of the lightning port, or maybe not back in 2010, the European commission picked micro USB as the official standard. Speaker 1: The EC required smartphones available in Europe to be compatible with the interface. Apple was able to get the okay for its lightning [00:06:00] connector and the 30 pin dot connector by offering micro USB adapters. So it is possible that apple could stave off USBC in its next iPhone. If apple has an adapter, that being said, it does seem like a matter of time before apple just moves the iPhone to USBC. Again, I go back to the MacBook pro as an example, it added standard ports. So people wouldn't have to go Don crazy, or maybe apple will go USBC on the pro only. We'll see. And finally, let's go inside the new iPhone. It could include wifi [00:06:30] six E which can make a world of difference in the future. One of the things that wifi six E allows is bandwidth that could support a augmented and virtual reality. Speaker 1: Another report from minchi post says that Apple's headset would feature wifi six E as well. Yes, you need a wifi 60 E router to take advantage of it. But we are talking about wireless, augmented reality, no physical tethering on top of that, when you're out in the real world with lots of other people, wifi six E could be very Perry Carll of extreme network said if [00:07:00] you're sitting in a packed stadium with 70,000 other people, the arrival of wifi six E means you are not going to be competing for bandwidth in the same way you used to. It will be significantly easier to stream the event to friends, order concessions via app, or even to find out which bathrooms have the shortest lines. One of Apple's biggest and underrated features is taking care of pain points. If the iPhone works better in more situations, more people will be drawn to it. Speaker 1: You can [00:07:30] talk about Terra flops and neural engines until you're blue in the face. But if you say wireless augmented reality or your phone is going to work great everywhere, including stadiums that could get people's attention. Of course you can expect some kind of ridiculous system on a chip in the next iPhone. If the notch is gone, maybe some advanced neural engine could allow for a different and secure way for a camera to identify you without needing sensors that face you, that is pure speculation by me, but I'm basing this on Apple's history. If I had a wishlist [00:08:00] for the iPhone 14, it would include all the things on this list. I would also add in some real multitasking on the large screen iPhones, you should be able to have two apps up at once. If apple thinks that the 6.1 screen is too small for that surely the 6.7 inch models should be able to display two apps. Speaker 1: I'm still a weird would really like the apple pencil to work with the iPhone. It could also act as a gateway for people who tried the stylist on the iPhone and then think, Hey, this would be great on a larger device. Boom, [00:08:30] iPad cell. One issue I foresee is that the apple pencil charges by clipping onto an iPad, clipping a pencil to an iPhone could look a little silly and while we're at it, let's make it so you can wirelessly charge your AirPods using your iPhone a big thank you to Patrick Holland for his help. I'm AA, Zach turn, I'll see you online.
