Facebook is ousting Russia's Internet Research Agency from its platform. The company announced in a post it had removed 70 Facebook and 65 Instagram accounts controlled by the Internet Research Agency. The IRA is a Russia-based group Facebook says abused its platform to manipulate people. It's important to note Facebook session it didn't remove these accounts and pages solely because of their contents. Facebook chief security officer Alex Simmers said the accounts were removed quote solely because they were controlled by the IRA unquote. A graphic offered a handful of facts about the ban including the total number of removals How many unique users followed the accounts and how much money the accounts spent on Facebook and Instagram ads since the start of 2015. Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg also posted about the bans explaining the company has taken steps in the past two years to help prevent nation states from interfering in foreign elections. Definitively stating, quote, we don't want them on Facebook anywhere in the world, unquote.
