It's not enough to just watch a movie, Dolby wants you to feel the heat. Neuroscientists at Dolby's biophysical lab are putting their thinking caps on. You happen to be wearing an EG, and electro-encephologram, as well as galvanic skin response, a GSR, and we are monitoring your heart rate, And your thermal image. They're studying how your brain can trick your body so it physically reacts to what's on screen. It's all about enhancing the movie experience. The scientists discovered that people actually felt hotter when flames onscreen appeared more intense. I definitely feel like the room is warmer just from watching this. We know this is fire, and it caught Just based on the luminous reaching my retina, my body starts to expel heat. Those images were enhanced by dobbie vision. A high dynamic range technology in screen s that expands the range of contrast in color to make images look more realistic and brighter. [NOISE] It's not just seeing, it helps us Brains believe it's also hearing. Dolby's Atmos system treats sounds as objects. Director can play sound wherever they want in 360 degree space. So rather than an object just in In the left channel you can move that all around and even overhead. This makes sense in cinemas where there are speakers in the walls and ceiling. But the same experience that surrounds you with sound even works when the speakers are only in front of you. That's partly Atmos Technology and partly your brain. Even a laptop with Dolby Atmos can fool you into believing sounds are coming from behind you. It's really strange because it sounds like the sound is actually coming from around me 360 degrees. Is through, what we call the science of psychoacoustics, so it's the timing of different sounds. So for example, if I snap here The sound reaches my right ear before it reaches my left ear, and that's how my brain knows that [SOUND] even if my eyes are closed I still know it's to my right, and so we use that same trick in a sense on a PC. In the future, the Dolby scientists say their studies of the body and mind could lead to a more personalized movie experience. What we're trying to understand is, how our technology enhances in ultimately your memories, your ability to have these strong physical experiences. That are shared, not just alone. It's all food for thought the next time you go to the movies.
