Apple's Worldwide Developer's Conference just finished up its keynote with big announcements of the iPhone 3GS and new MacBook Pros. But sliding under the radar was an update to the original white MacBook. Now, these used to be available in a couple of colors. You could get them in black or white. It's now only available in white, and it's the last MacBook in the entire line. The rest are MacBook Pros. Under the hood, it's actually nearly as good spec-wise as a 13-inch, unibody MacBook Pro. For $999.00, the specs have been increased to a 2.13-gigahertz Core 2 Duo processor with 2 gigs of DDR 2 RAM. And it also includes an NVIDIA 9400M processor for a graphics and video games, and it plays games as well as a 13-inch MacBook Pro does. For the price, it's a great deal. Now, what you're getting is an older case, sort of a throwback design. So if you like glossy white polycarbonate plastic, then you're gonna love this. It feels a little denser than the aluminum unibody, but it's also about $200.00 cheaper. The white MacBook also is the last MacBook or Apple Laptop to have FireWire 400 built in. It also has mini DVI, as opposed to mini display port. The white MacBook has a 13-inch glossy screen that looks great playing movies or video games. The track pad's nice and large. It's not a click pad, so it has one button on the bottom, like the older MacBook line did. And the keyboard is nice and responsive, too. Also, that raised key that exists now across the entire MacBook line. The feel is very sturdy. The battery is a five-hour battery, which is removable. All the other MacBook Pros now have non-removable batteries. And, you know, if you're a student, if you're someone that wants to save a little bit of money, $999.00 is as good as it gets for a portable Mac. And actually, with the back to school program, now you can also get an iPod Touch included when you buy one. Also, good news for the environmentally friendly, the entire MacBook line is EP Gold and Energy Star compliant, including the old white MacBook, or should we say the new white MacBook. It's a great value, and -- sure you don't have an SD card slot, but, you know, for saving the money, you can't go wrong. I'm Scott Stein, and this is the white MacBook, the last MacBook. ^M00:02:39 [ Music ]
