A new report by Bloomberg says that Apple was having difficulty obtaining enough 3D sensors to produce finished iPhone 10 devices.
Bloomberg says Apple gave suppliers a two-year lead time to get ready.
A Wall Street Journal report said that the dot projector caused production problems.
Yield of dot projectors was in the neighborhood of 20%.
To increase usable components, Apple suppliers slowed down the production process.
Bloomberg says to make production faster, Apple relaxed some of the specifications for face ID.
That has some strange applications.
