A new report says Apple is lowering the bar for face I.D. Apple's iPhone 10 famously ditched Touch I.D. in favor of a new technology Apple called Face idea. Apple says face I.D. works because of its true deaf camera system. It uses a combination of an infrared camera, an illuminator, and a dot projector to map your face. That's a lot of hard work on a small space. A new report by Bloomberg says that Apple was having difficulty obtaining enough 3D sensors to produce finished iPhone 10 devices. Bloomberg says Apple gave suppliers a two-year lead time to get ready. A Wall Street Journal report said that the dot projector caused production problems. Yield of dot projectors was in the neighborhood of 20%. To increase usable components, Apple suppliers slowed down the production process. Bloomberg says to make production faster, Apple relaxed some of the specifications for face ID. That has some strange applications. When Apple introduced face ID, the company said the chances of someone else being able to unlock your face ID enabled iPhone using their face,was one in a million.
