Apple Music is headed to Amazon.
In a blog post, Amazon announced it would be adding support for Apple's streaming service.
The update will allow anyone using an Alexa enabled device to voice control playback of songs, artists, albums Playlists and streaming radio channels like Beats 1. It's an unusual move for Amazon and Apple which have both been historically protective of their respective platforms, services and devices.
But the collaboration is likely a welcome news for any Apple music subscribers out there using Amazon's smart speakers as opposed to Home pods.
The update officially rolls out to echo enabled smart speakers on December 17th 2018.
And Amazon says other Alexa enabled devices, will get support for the feature shortly after the initial roll out.
It will work by adding an Apple music skill to the Alexa app.
At last count, Apple music counted almost 50 million subscribers But it has struggled to find its way in the smartphone market compared to Google and Amazon.
This move could be a way for Apple to keep subscribers to its streaming service Satisfy.
Once Amazon enables the news scale it will join Sonos as one of two non Apple companies to offer a direct Apple music connection for playback on its Speakers.
We'll be keeping an eye on Apple Music's expansion into Alexa devices on CNET.com.
