Speaker 1: Hi. I'm Rick Brown and I'm at Fitzgerald and welcome to day 2 of Synap 3D Printing (Double?). So Matt, we have this printer or at least the start of it. What's Speaker 2: Yeah. That is. steps. We've got 3 of them done yesterday Speaker 1: So we built the frame. That was the first step. We kind of plug all these birch plywood pieces, not balsa, like I said yesterday, birch. Then we screwed them all together with your little screws. That took a while. There's 57 screws in here Speaker 2: Yeah. It won't fit nicely together though, the little (tabs?). We didn't really have to. we didn't have to force it or anything, it all went together nicely Speaker 1: Yeah. It was easy enough. And then we have this motor assembly which is the Y axis. So this wooden piece is already put together but what we did was that we installed this rail to put on this belt, screwed in that motor and then we put on a platform on top of which is gonna go the ultimate build platform where we build 3 objects. So this slides back and forth here and ultimately is gonna fit inside the printer like that and then it will control the 1 dimension back and forth. We have this one on top which will control the movement and. from side to side and on here we'll mount the extruder head that will actually inject the plastic Speaker 2: Does the 3D printer Speaker 1: It actually does the rendering Speaker 2: Right Speaker 1: Okay. So we're 3 steps in and then we have 4 steps remaining here. Just for the hardware anyway so we've gotta do the what. the Z axis Speaker 2: The Z axis which is the up and down way Speaker 1: Going up and down and then we have the build platform itself. We have to put the extruder on and there's a whole set of electronics that we need to Speaker 2: Yeah. Control and everything and that'll be the final step for the assembly of it Speaker 1: . wire up. One of the things I wanna point out. Because it's Valentine's day, we have a cool little prop, an example of something that could be made on this machine Speaker 2: Right Speaker 1: So this is a 3D print heart. And actually, it's design is pretty cool. You see, it's a gear mechanism, spins around and this is designed by a guy named Emmett (Laluge?) from the University of Washington and then he posted it up on Maker Bots Thingaverse site. We downloaded the plan and printed out and that sort of guy, an (etch?) did. So this is Emmett plans taken by a guy in SA who prints this heart out and then sells it. He gets Emmett's blessing to do that and then I bought it for my wife, happy Valentines day babe, and yeah, so this is one of just the. one of the cool things you can do with 3D printing as well.
