-He is the Product Manager for Google Voice.
We're here at the Sprint booth and he's going to show us how to setup your Google Voice account if you are a new Google Voice user and you have a Sprint phone number.
-So, this is the-- my Sprint phone number and I'm going to
try to enable it with Google Voice.
So, I've never used Google Voice but I've used Gmail calling.
So, if I log in to Google Voice, this is what I see, my call history, and I can click on "create my account".
So, here, I have 2 options.
The typical option that I have up to now was to get a new number from Google Voice.
But there's now a new option to use my existing mobile number.
So, I'm gonna click on that, enter my cellphone number from Sprint to see if it can be enabled.
So, this is my Sprint cellphone number
and Google Voice is actually checking for me with Sprint if the number can be enabled, and--
-So, most numbers can be enabled, is that correct?
-Most numbers can be enabled.
A few exceptions are corporate accounts, but pretty much all Sprint postpaid accounts are available.
-Right.
No prepaid phone numbers either?
-Correct.
So, as you can see, this number can be enabled.
I can use my Sprint mobile number as my Google Voice number.
So, I can just click here.
It's gonna warn me that my existing Sprint
voice mail messages will be deleted when I enable that.
I'm fine with, so I can continue.
So--
-You're fine with it because Google Voice will take care of all of the voice mail--
-Exactly.
-and also provide visual voice mail as well.
-So now, I will get my voice mail transcribed, sent to me via text or e-mail.
So, it's gonna make sure that I actually own the phone just for security.
So, this is the typical verification process.
It's gonna call me on the cellphone and make sure that I have the phone.
So, then, I just need
to answer the...
[unk].
So, answer.
It takes a little long 'cause we're here at CTIA.
So...
-So then you dial and that occur.
-Okay, so, it's now been enabled.
I confirmed.
I'm gonna setup the PIN that I can use to access my voice mail from the phone if I ever need to.
Accept the terms of services, continue, and now it's creating a new account.
And, so, it takes a second or two 'cause we go and tell Sprint to enable it in their system.
And once this is complete, my Sprint number is now my Google Voice number.
So, if someone calls this phone, not only will it ring here but it can ring me on Gmail.
It can ring me at, you know, on, so, this is my office phone, it can ring that phone at the same time.
I can take the call from wherever I want.
So, there you go, as you see, congratulations, finished.
-And there we have it.
-And when I finish, there you go.
There's my Sprint number and there you go.
As you can see, it's now my Google Voice number and it can ring me on Gmail or--
-Anywhere you've got it.
-and I can have any other forwarding [unk].
-So, that's how you do it; pretty fast, pretty easy to use.
