-It doesn't matter what type of storage device you use--a computer, a NAS server, an external hard drive and so on.
In the end, it's the internal hard drive that determines the state of your storage and I have here one that offers the largest capacity to date.
My name is Dong Ngo and this is the Barracuda XT internal hard drive from Seagate.
The Barracuda XT isn't the first 3-terabyte hard drive on the market, but it is the first that offers the great balance of storage space, performance, and compatibility.
The drives come in the regular 3.5-inch design and works with any computer that supports SATA standard.
It, however, supports the latest third generation SATA 6 gigabytes per second which currently offer the high-ceiling speed of around 600 megabytes per second.
Now, the Barracuda doesn't offer that top speed but shows around 120 megabytes per second in our testing but that's already very fast and much faster than its peers.
The best thing about the drive is the fact that it supports Window XP very well.
Due to the limitation of Legacy Standards, Window XP as well as computers that are based on the old basic output/input system or BIOS can't recognize hard drive that's larger than 2.19 gigabytes.
By the way, most existing Windows computer likely equalling yours are still based on BIOS.
This means, normally, they can take advantage of 3-terabyte hard drives.
For this reason, Seagate offers a free software called DiscWizard that allows
Window XP to use the 3-terabyte version of the Barracuda XT at its full capacity.
Another very good thing which might be the most important thing about the drive is the fact that it's affordable.
The 3-terabyte version costs just $240 while the 2-terabyte version is about $160 or about 8 cents per gigabyte in both cases.
Compared to a solid-state drive, this is a real bargain.
