Sanyo Vero SCP-3820
Hi, I'm Kent German, senior editor for cnet.com.
I'm here with the first look at the Sanyo Vero.
This is also called the SCP-3820.
Now this is a phone, of course, made by Kyocera, but they own a Sanyo brand now, so this, for all intents and purpose, a Sanyo phone.
Overall, the design is pretty basic, though.
I think it's somewhat attractive.
It does have a plastic outer cover, so it didn't feel it was entirely sturdy.
The hinge a little better and also it does have a reverse hinge.
It makes no difference in usability whatsoever, but it's just note that it's there.
Pretty thin profile as well.
We don't see thin as a big trend in cellphones anymore, but this phone certainly fits the bill.
Fit into a pocket easily.
It didn't have any weight to a bag.
On the front, you see the external display.
It's about the size of a posted stamp.
It shows the time in really big font, so I like I said that's pretty easy to see.
Here in the side there is a 2.5 mm headset jack, really I'd like 3.5, even on a phone that doesn't have a lot of music features.
The phone has a nice internal display, takes full advantage of the phone's size, where I like that.
It's also pretty bright and vivid.
Menus are easy to use, easy to navigate
I can find what I wanted easily.
Keypad buttons and controls are nicely designed.
They are flat, but I didn't have any problems of misdials.
I could even somewhat use them when I was dialling by feel.
Overall, the feature said is pretty standard.
This is 1.3-megapixel camera.
It has Bluetooth.
It has a speakerphone.
It has personal organizer options, but doesn't go much beyond that.
The call quality is pretty good, higher call volumes.
The audio tends to get a little distorted and it can get pretty loud.
The speakerphone, I wasn't impressed with it really, unusable in some ways.
You gotta be really close to it and you're gonna make sure you're in a quite room,
but even then, the sound can get a little distorted.
People don't exactly sound like themselves.
Overall, though, I think the Vero is a pretty decent phone for communication.
If you need a phone with really big text on the display and on its numbers, I recommend it.
I'm Kent German, and this is the Sanyo Vera first look.
