>> Hi, I'm Kent German, Senior Editor here at CNET.com. Today we'll take a First Look at the Samsung SGH-A637. This is a new phone for AT&T service. A lot of times when you first see a cell phone, there's a little more to it than meets the eye. When you look at a phone like this, you might think that it's just a basic messaging, talk phone. It has that simple candy bar design. Anyway, there's nothing wrong with the candy bar design. Actually they are needed in this world by flip phones, the slider phones. Candy bar phone does need to be durable. It needs to be able to protect that display and the keypad which are exposed at all times. Unfortunately, this phone doesn't really make that cut. I found that the plastic skin, it was felt very cheap, pretty flimsy. I was a little worried about how it'd stand up to being dropped. The phone felt a little slippery in the hand, so it didn't have a nice solid feel. So, really I wasn't impressed with that design. White color is fine, it's certainly is unique. Rounded edges were fine as well, but really the phone needs to be a little more durable. Display however is pretty nice. It's bright and colorful. It shows graphics and photos well. Navigation toggle, I also liked. It is raised above the surface of the phone, so I felt it very easy to grip. Keypad buttons and the many navigation controls weren't in love with them, however 'cause I felt like they were felt a little cheap and a little slippery just like the outside of the phone. Inside you'll find a 1.3-megapixel camera. Actually it has a pretty good photo quality. You'll find a GPS. You'll find a cellular video. I was impressed by the video quality. I found it was pretty good. Also music quality sounded well. Call quality was fine. So basically, this is a phone with few added features for the 3G, but don't really think the design complements them at all. I'm Kent German and this is the Samsung SGH-A637.
