CNET First Look
Samsung SF510Offering a complete package of performance, design, and even Intel Wireless Display at a very attractive price, the Samsung SF510-A01 is one of the best laptop values we've seen all year.
I'm Scott Stein, Senior Associate Editor at CNET.com. And this is the Samsung SF510. Now, you're shopping for a laptop this holiday. What are you looking for? You're looking for something that's affordable. You're looking for something that does all your basic tasks. Video streaming, sure. Anyone [unk] as I can break the budget. Well, this is one of the best ones that we've seen this holiday that it's not tremendously sexy. It's not tremendously new but at $629, the SF510 is one of the best budget mid-range laptops that we've seen all year round. The SF510 looks like an appliance. It's got a very creamy, smooth exterior on the outside, chrome lines, way curves, nice bronze touches, look fine in your living room or in the kitchen. It's got a big 15.6 inch screen. The resolution is not fantastic but it's great for watching video, good for working on office documents, all that basic stuff. And the specs are good. Core i3 processor, 500 gigabyte hard drive, 4 gigs of RAM, everything you'd need and a couple of bonuses. WiMax for wireless 4G access; the antenna is included in here. So if you wanna add that later it's in there. Another great feature is Intel Wireless Display. Now it's built in here and what it does is allow the wireless transmission of high-def video and audio to a nearby HDTV that you need to purchase at $99 box from Netgear separately to be able to use that functionality. But, it's pretty great if you're using your laptop, the screen TV like Hulu for instance to your television and using it in that capacity. And a 629 is a great feature to include in here. The rest of it, you pretty much know what a laptop does and it doesn't. It's a Windows 7 laptop, but those are the best features about it. If you're gonna spend about $600 on a laptop this holiday, you're probably not gonna get much better than the Samsung SF510. I'm Scott Stein. And again this is Samsung SF510 laptop.
