Samsung BD-H6500 super slick, quick Blu-ray player
Like DVD players before them, Blu-ray players are now cheap enough that they've reached saturation points in people's homes.
Most people have one they're going to keep.
While most perform equally well with discs, the biggest differentiator now is features and operating speed, particularly in how quickly it can load apps like Netflix.
Hi, I'm Ty Pendlebury from CNET and the Samsung BDH6500 is not only the fastest Blu-ray player I've seen yet, but also one of the most fully featured.
My TV at home takes a full 60 seconds to load Netflix but the Samsung can go from completely off to playing Netflix in 15 seconds, and it's even faster if you use quick start.
The Samsung has a dual core processor which enables it to load applications this quickly and this also helps in loading Blu-ray discs.
The apps offered by the player also include Amazon, Hulu, Pandora, and Spotify but one of the most interesting features is the ability to stream audio to the shaped multi-room system which works reasonably well.
But I would have preferred, if you had one of these, that it could stream music from Shape instead, as this would make it a cheaper way to add multi-room to your existing system.
This player can upscale to 4k, but if you have a 4k TV already, you had this covered, you don't need that.
Image quality is very good, though, with only a slight problem with 3 2 [INAUDIBLE] cadence, and this is only visible in test scenes.
At $149 US, the Samsung [UNKNOWN] 6500 is a little more expensive than your entry level players, but its speed could make the extra expenditure worth while.
It will be interesting to compare this to Samsung's H 5900 as this may offer similar speed, but the $50 saving.
