RIP AIM.
AOL instant messenger is signing off for good in December.
AIM made its debut in 1997.
They were the heady days of dial up modems, and Aol online's CD roms that showed up everywhere, from your mail box to the front of computer magazines.
By the way if you still have one of those cd's they actually considered collectable in the right circles.
Aim reached it's peak in the early 2000's thank to the rise of other platforms such as Google chat, Facebook messenger and even sms.
AIM's popularity declined and development for the service effectively ended in 2012.
Fellow AIM rival MSN messenger also said it's last good byes in 2013 and it was merged with Skype.
ICQ on the other hand is still going strong with 11 million users.
AOL is now a part of Verizon's [UNKNOWN] and according to the company's blog post, there is no current replacement for AIM.
You'll need to manually save your chat history as well as your images and files.
Never fear, if you currently have an @aim email address, it will still work, but the running man is slamming the door,
