If there was an opportunity for you to ask a question in those hearings, what would it have been?
I probably would have asked about whether the way the algorithms function is having the affect of balkanizing us.
Now I've met Mark a couple times and had a few conversations with him as well by phone, and I've raised this issue before.
When I raised it last during our hearing with the General Council, General Council expressed the view that the jury was still out on whether the algorithms are having this effect.
I don't know if the jury is till out on that question but to me it is one of the most difficult.
Congress is not gonna be alleged to setting algorithms and we're not gonna be telling people what they could say.
We're not gonna be telling people what content they can carry.
We've enorate the first member for a good reason so there are reconstraints on what we can do and I think the question is what obligation Do the social media companies feel that they should properly take on, can then merely say we're just a billboard, anybody can post what they wish, we're not sensors, we don't have the capacity, we shouldn't get into their business anyway Is it enough for them to say that all they need to focus on is who's an authentic user?
Or is their obligation more than that?
And those are probably the issues I would wanna discuss with him.
From wearing my intel hat I think we need to establish the same kind of partnership between the intelligence community and the tech companies that we have in the area of the promulgation of terrorist videos and recruiting.
Such that the intel community gives the social media companies a heads up whenever we see bad actors making use of their platforms.
I wanna make sure there's a channel for that and that we have a good modus operandi.
