>> Need to hide from the world but don't want to shut down IM in case you need to shoot off a question to a co-worker or something? You need invisible mode. I'm Tom Merritt, editor at CNET.com with a quick tip for customizing Yahoo! messenger to only let certain people know you're online. To get to invisible mode, go to the messenger menu item. Choose my status then select invisible to everyone. Now you can see them, but they can't see you. So what if you want to be interrupted by your sweetheart but really can't take the time to chat with Uncle Harry right now? Stay in invisible mode, right click on the person you want to allow to see you. Choose stealth settings and choose appear online to. Everyone but your sweetheart will think you're busy except that one person. Now what about Uncle Harry? Maybe you don't want to go so far as to delete him but you really need him to think you're unavailable on a permanent basis. Right click on the person in question, choose stealth settings again. This time choose appear permanently offline to. Uncle Harry will just think you're not around and if you need to get a hold of him, you can. That's it for this quick tip. I'm Tom Merritt for CNET.com.
