>> Google Earth version 4 brings 3D models of real stuff into the satellite mapping wonderland. But even better, you can now remake the entire planet in your own image. I'm Molly Wood from CNET.com with some Quick Tips for creating and uploading 3D models to Google Earth. Now in order to get started, you just wanna click the 3D buildings box in the layers menu. Now you can see all the 3D building in Google Earth, but after you get tired of looking at the Golden Gate Bridge in 3D for the millionth time, you might get the itch to start uploading your own stuff and in fact, a lot of people already have. If you click on the yellow house on top of any 3D building, you'll see more information about it, including it's history and the model's creator. Now any model that you upload just has to be interesting and lightweight. Now in order to start creating your own model, you'll need Google's free Sketch Up program. You can build your structure from scratch or use a new feature in Sketch Up called Photo Match that lets you trace the outline of an imported 2D image to create a 3D model. Photo textures adds a realistic finish to your structure and that helps make it more interesting looking. Now once you're done building your model, adding it to Google Earth is a snap. From the Google Sketch Up interface, select the file menu then choose 3D warehouse and share model. You'll be prompted for your Google log in here, you can just use your Gmail log in if you have one of those. Then enter an official name, description and location for your model. Check the box marked Google Earth ready and now press upload. Now you just have to cross your fingers and hope that the Google overlords like your creation. If they do, it might still take a few weeks for it to show up. So just be patient. I'm Molly Wood from CNET.com and hey, go make the world a better place would ya.
