Playing old Atari games in HD isn't as great as you think
Atari retro game boxes have out in stores for as long as I can remember.
The Atari Flashback 8 Gold is the latest version, and it has some upgrades.
For one, its got HDMI and its got wireless Atari joysticks.
It can also save games and rewind them from specific seconds.
There are a 120 games, including Activision ones.
And the system works with old retro controllers if you have got them including the paddles.
So how does it all feel?
Jeff Fackilur and I sat down and played as many as we could stomach.
Who could forget pressure cooker?
Wow, check out the box art for pressure cooker.
Can you even move your guy?
You know what though?
This is what Atari games were like, where you just had no idea how to play, and you would just watch.
Wait, here we go.
There you go.
So you got a tomato.
This actually looks pretty good.
Let's see what game that someone might vaguely remember.
Combat was the greatest.
All right, let's do Combat.
This is a tank game.
It's surprisingly fun.
You play games like this.
This is hot garbage.
Now I remember this.
You select yes.
So get me in here.
Let's do this.
I remember this now.
Look at my blue tank.
This kind of resembles a tank, but the second you turn it's no longer a tank.
Doesnt like diagonals.
Yeah, look at that ugly thing.
There you go.
The sad thing is the Atari.
This resembles a game.
This resembles it but the Atari, that's the problem the 2600 version of a lot of these games were not the versions you want to play.
Right, they were super watered down.
But if you want to back up you could do replay and it just reminds.
That's, that's pretty cool.
I'm just gonna let this happen.
Tell me when I should do something.
Oop, doesn't even matter.
I find this endlessly entertaining.
It doesn't even matter.
I still have yet to hit the flippers.
This was the closest thing to Zelda before Zelda.
This was actually a really groundbreaking game.
I remember, right cuz it was more like-
Because there wouldn't-
Keys open doors and stuff.
If you think about it, there wouldn't have been a Zelda before
Games like this.
It's the first dungeon puzzle.
This is the first puzzle in the history of games right there.
See look at that, I see what's happening here.
Whoa was there a timer in [UNKNOWN].
I actually think that if your really into [UNKNOWN] it's a nice collection because you can revisit these.
And its so easy to just pick it up and play.
It's more of like a [CROSSTALK].
You wanna show someone who wasn't alive like what we had to go through.
So you can save a game by pressing down on the joystick.
And pressing select.
Now you can save games to various slots.
Save game slot 1 if you want more save game slots here they are.
Now we're cooking.
You can also add an effect.
You wanna make it look worse?
There you go, we have a way to do that.
There you go, now it's got extra lines.
Now, with more lines.
