Plantronics Voyager Pro UC Headset
-I'm Nicole Lee, Senior Associate Editor for CNET.com, and this is a first look at the Plaintronics Voyager PRO UC.
If you're thinking, "Hmm, I've seen this before," that's because the Voyager PRO UC has the same exact design as the Voyager PRO Plus and the Voyager PRO.
So, what's new with the Voyager PRO UC?
It has a new technology that
Plaintronics has developed called Smart Sensor technology.
All along the sides here and the ear buds, there are smart sensors, capacitive touch sensors, that can sense whether the headset is on your ear or not.
So, for example, if you have an incoming call and you're not wearing the headset, the call would automatically go to the phone.
This way, you're not left fumbling around in your bag for the headset.
However, when you put the headset on during a call, the call will automatically go to the headset.
There's no need to re-pair or reconnect or anything like that.
So, it's a very smart technology here.
Also useful is for listening to music.
Because the Plaintronics Voyager PRO UC has A2DP streaming, you can listen to music or podcast with your headset.
When you take the headset off, it'll pause music.
When you put the headset back on, it'll resume where you left off.
So overall, the Smart Sensor technology elevates the functionality of the Voyager PRO UC tenfold.
You can also use the Voyager PRO UC with your PC for voice over IP or softphone applications.
It comes with a USB adapter that's already paired with it.
It's compatible with Skype, Cisco, Avaya, and other softphone or voice over IP applications.
It also has multipoint connectivity, so, you can connect it to up to 2 devices at the same time.
When the headset is connected to both a PC and a phone, and there's an incoming call,
the PC application will actually say "in a call" or "unavailable" to let your contacts know you're on a call and you can't take your messages right now.
Also very handy is the auto call button lock.
That is when the headset is in your pocket or when you're not wearing.
It'll automatically lock the call button so you don't accidentally make calls.
Overall, kind of bulky for a Bluetooth headset but it's very comfortable.
The AudioIQ technology is present here.
It's very good noise reduction, very good audio quality in general.
However, the biggest downside to the Voyager
PRO UC is that it's available for $200.
That's a lot of money for a Bluetooth headset.
I'm Nicole Lee.
This has been the first look at the Plaintronics Voyager PRO UC.
