Hi, Im Sharon Vaknin, and Im here to declare war on every single content farm.
Its websites like lovetoknow, wisegeek, and articlesbase that trash Google search
results with unqualified content about every single topic there is.
Theyre called content farms.
Their articles, come from freelancers or blatant copying
and pasting.
They top search results and make serious ad revenue from your clicks.
Google updated its algorithm to lower the ranking of content farms, but they still
dominate.
Heres how to permanently block our enemies from Google search results.
Its pretty easy.
First, youll need Chrome 9, IE8 or Firefox 3.5 or later.
Then make sure
youre logged into your Google account.
Now, when you open a search result you dont like, hit the BACK button.
Youll see a
new link under that search result, letting you block all results from that site.
Once you hit that link, you can Undo, or manage your blocked sites.
You can also
manually enter sites youd like to block, or undo previous blocks....click options in the
upper right of a Google search page, and select Search Settings.
Thank you Google.
This feature was a long time coming.
If you want to block a website from just one search, use the minus operator.
Just type in
your search term, followed by minus and then the website youd like to block.
Google is probably keeping an eye on sites that were blocking, and until Google further
improves its algorithm, its up to us to take down these content farms.
Youre either with us or against us.
For CNET.com, Im Sharon Vaknin and Ill see you on the interwebs.
