Panasonic GT50 plasma boasts improved picture and design
Hi, I'm David Katzmaier from CNET.com at CES 2012 and we're looking at the TCP GT 50 series from Panasonic.
This is plasma TV series is available in 50, 55, 60 and 65 inch sizes.
It's probably they're second best performing TV of the year...
underneath the VT 50 series.
This TV has THX certification for both 2D and 3D which gives you a 1 click sort of instant calibration which enables you to get that excellent picture quality settings without having to mess around too much in the picture setting menu.
This set also includes Panasonic's new Neo PDP panel which promises better black levels and better motion resolution.
This TV was an excellent performer last year in the form of the GT 30 series.
So Panasonic said it designed the panel from the ground up to improve energy efficiency, black levels as well as give a brighter picture.
So, all those things should really help the GT 50 look a little bit better than the GT 30 from last year which was already very good.
Design wise the GT 50 includes a little bit of this silver accent around the edge.
It has a very thin bezel and a pretty thin TV cabinet all together.
So again one of the nicer looking plasma designs we've seen from the company.
Although it doesn't include any glass for this TV, I've been told that the Panasonic now is in part of the Universal Glasses 3D Consortium.
So the new glasses that they're gonna be available for this TV are Bluetooth.
They're not compatible with the old glasses but they will be usable with a lot of different manufacturer's TVs.
The on-picture quality, GT 50 series also includes Panasonic's Viera Connect suite which includes some interactivity with tablets this year that's new.
It also includes active 3D capability but there's no glasses included again this year.
That's a look at the Panasonic TCP GT 50 series.
I'm David Katzmaier from CES 2012 in Nevada, Las Vegas.
