Panasonic DVD-LS86: First Look
First Look: Panasonic DVD-LS861:35 /
The Panasonic DVD-LS86 delivers some of the longest battery life we've seen in a portable DVD player--though not quite as long as Panasonic claims.
^B00:00:00 [ Music ] >> Hey everyone. I'm Jeff Bakalar, assistant editor here at CNET.com. Today we're going to be looking at the Panasonic DVD LS86. The LS86 is a large, 8.5-inch portable DVD player. The screen doesn't swivel, but it does have a collapsible hinge. However, when you do collapse it, it covers some of the buttons on the top of the player. Speaking of buttons, the on and off button share some functionality with the player. And you're gonna find yourself accidentally turning the player on and off. The player's the widest we've seen of all the DVD players we've reviewed lately. It's because the speakers are mounted on the left and right of the screen instead of above or below. Picture quality was also just about average among the other players we've tested recently. The LS86 can also play DIVX encoded files, MPEG 4 movie files, MP3s, WMA, and JPEG photo files. On the side you've got two headphone jacks, an in and out AV port, and it does come with a car charger. Now, Panasonic says that you're gonna get about 13 hours of battery life out of the DVD player, but we could actually only get nine. Also, it doesn't come with a remote, and for the price you would think they would have included something like that, or maybe a USB port or a flashcard reader. Overall, the DVD LS86 is a decent player. It's a little larger than we would have liked. I'm Jeff Bakalar, and this has been the DVD LS86 from Panasonic. ^M00:01:33 [ Music ]
