Notify When Left Behind: Never lose your AirPods again
Speaker 1: Have you ever accidentally left your AirPods behind in a public place? Maybe you're headed to work or you're just leaving the gym and then you realize, Hey, I don't have my AirPods. No. Well with iOS 15 and the newer models of the AirPods, apple now offers a new feature called notify when left behind which I'm gonna show you how to set up right now, users can now be notified when they've left their AirPods behind in a non-trust location, which I'll explain more about later in this video. Now it's worth mentioning [00:00:30] that only newer models of iPhones work with this feature. This could be because the older iPhones don't have the apple U one ultra wide band chip. And this feature only works on iPhone 12 or later. I tried setting up separation alerts on my iPhone se 2020, and it simply would not work. So my relatively new iPhone, the se 2020 that I just bought last year does not work with this new feature.
Speaker 1: Thanks apple. This feature only works with the newer versions of AirPods, unfortunately. So let's get started. [00:01:00] I'm going to demonstrate the AirPods third generation and an iPhone 12 max. Okay. So assuming you're up to date with your iOS and your apple AirPods firmware update, open the, find my app on your iPhone or iPad, whichever you regularly use with your AirPods and select devices on the bottom row of the screen, then select your AirPods from the a list of connected devices. It's worth mentioning your AirPods need to be connected to your phone via Bluetooth to enable this feature, scroll down and [00:01:30] turn on notify. When left behind. Now, you will receive alerts on your phone. If you've left your AirPods behind by accident, scroll down a bit further and you will see notify me. Except at here. You can add location where you might not wanna be notified. If you've left your AirPods behind the application will automatically add your home address. So if you'd rather not have your home address included than just delete it,
Speaker 1: If your home address is not showing up, [00:02:00] then you might need to simply add it in the contacts app under your own name before being able to enable this feature for me, I'd think I'd wanna be notified if I left them at home, if I'm headed to work and I forget them, that's probably the most likely place I'm gonna accidentally leave them behind. Or maybe I don't want to include my home address because then every time I leave the house, without them, I'll get a notification. And that could be very annoying. Well, it's up to you. You, if you wanna just leave this blank, then just click done in the top right hand corner. And you're all set. Now, when you accidentally leave your [00:02:30] AirPods behind and your iPhone no longer detects them nearby, you will be notified that the item is no longer detected near you and will tell you where they were last detected. When you get the notification, you can tap on it to see the address looked location of where you last left them. Tap, continue to open the, find my app. Once you're in the find my app, you can tap on directions, which will guide you back to the location. Your AirPods were last detected in
Speaker 2: 450 feet, take a left.
Speaker 1: [00:03:00] It will even show you longitude and latitude coordinates, right? In case an address is not enough to locate them. Maybe they're sitting in the grass in the middle of a park or something, or you can choose. Don't notify me here. If you don't want to be pinged. When you leave them at that location, you can also select play sound to help audibly locate your air pods. Once you've reached their last known location and still can't find them play sound allows you to play a loud chirping sound in both the left and right AirPod once you find them, click stop [00:03:30] to stop those chirps, apple even warns you to remove the AirPods from your ears before playing the sound, because it will physically hurt you. You can also use the fine or by option two. This helps with location based tracking when you're at home and tells you if you're within a few feet of your AirPods,
Speaker 1: You can also be notified when found, which will send a text alert you, that someone has found your lost AirPods. If you had marked them as lost, not when left behind [00:04:00] also works with other apple devices in your apple arsenal, but not all of them. Unfortunately it for sure works with air tags and AirPods and AirPods max. So that's how to set up notify when left behind on your AirPods. And hopefully you will never lose them again.
