Trying out Nothing's inexpensive Ear 1 earbuds
Speaker 1: Nothing, the new company from one plus co-founder Carl pay has finally launched its first product. It's a set of earbuds called the ear one. We've got 'em, we've used them. And I put together the main things you need to know right here.
Speaker 1: So what is nothing? Well, it's a new London based startup from Carl pay. Now page's philosophy with OnePlus was to make generally well [00:00:30] performing devices at prices that undercut its main rivals. So when pace attached to do his own thing, we were intrigued and just a little bit confused by the company name, nothing. And these headphones are the first actual products that nothing has released. They're fully wireless earbuds, complete with active noise cancellation and a charging case, which promises up to 34 hours of battery life in total. But it's for design. That's been a big focus here with pay, making a particular push for transparent [00:01:00] materials. And indeed, that's what we get with the ear at one buds with transparent plastic casing, allowing you to see some of the internal components as well as some subtle, nothing branding. The main body of the ear buds are white.
Speaker 1: However, and I feel that's a little bit of a shame cause it would've been great to see inside where the audio drivers are as well. They're tiny little four things weighing only 4.7 grams each. So they're incredibly comfortable to wear for long periods and small enough that I was actually able to sleep [00:01:30] in them. You get three sizes of the oval Silicon tips. Hopefully one of those will be the right size for you. For me, it was the large ones which did form a nice tight seal in my ear. The downside of the Bud's being so small is that the internal batteries are not that big. In fact, with active noise canceling switch on, you can only get up to four hours of battery life or about 5.7 hours with noise canceling switched off. That's a little bit below some of its rivals, including apples, AirPods, pro.
Speaker 1: [00:02:00] However, they are a lot smaller than most of its. So that smaller size does make them a little bit more secure, particularly if you're moving around a lot. So the joggers among you might appreciate that compromise of battery life versus secure fit sound quality is excellent. However, with warm punchy base tones and crystal clear highs, I'm listening to a range of music in my test of these so far, but I've found them particularly adept with base driven rock tracks, tracks like limbo by Royal [00:02:30] blood. Or here we go by low of an Atlantis where that meaty base really kicks through into your ears, but without sacrificing any of the detail in the symbols and some of the guitars, but it's not just all about the low end. There is plenty of I N detail on these to do justice, to orchestral music and acoustic. The active noise canceling does do a good job of keeping out a lot of the ambient sound.
Speaker 1: And in fact, I actually found that just having them in with the noise canceling switched on, but no music playing was a really [00:03:00] nice way of working. Gave me quite a nice peaceful environment. Just keeping out that outside traffic noise, that transparent design does extend to the charging case as well. And there are little magnets inside to help guide each air nicely into place case charges over U SBC or using Chi enabled wireless charges. And it can fast charge the buds giving about an hour of playback from only 10 minutes of charging inside the case. The buds are IPX four rated [00:03:30] for sweat and water resistance. They've got touch controls for pausing your music or turning the noise canceling on or off. There's also proximity sensors. So they could automatically pause the music. When you take the buds out of your ear, there's also an app available for both Android and iOS.
Speaker 1: And in there, there is a fine mind buds option. So if you do happen to lose one of your buds down the back of your couch, you can press the button in the app and your headphones will bla out and extremely loud noise. So of course, make sure or they're not [00:04:00] in your ears at the time. Overall nothing's first product. These earbuds are not a revolution in how we listen to music. They're not really that different to most other earbuds on the market beyond being a bit smaller and having some transparent plastic, but they offer decent sound and they do look pretty cool. And only $99. They're actually quite affordable. It seems that car pay is applying that one plus mix of decent performance with an affordable price. And that is absolutely fine [00:04:30] by me. If you're in the market for a decent set of wireless Airbus, and you don't fancy sticking apples in your ear, these ones are well worth checking out. What do you think two nothings first product were you expecting something bigger and grander from the new company or are you quite excited by these small and transparent ear buds do make sure to leave your thoughts in the comments below and make sure to keep it seen it for a lot more.
