New details for MacBooks and MacBook Pros coming to WWDC 17We're just a couple weeks away and 2017 Apple Worldwide Developers Conference has a chance to surprise with MacBooks, a Siri speaker and new iPad Pro.
[MUSIC] What's up? Brian Tong here and welcome to the Apple Byte for everything good and bad inside the world of Apple. Let's get to the latest and the iPhone finally has the best voice assistant but it's not Siri. That's because Google announced that IO 2017 that the Google Assistant app is now available on the phone for IOS. And it's free for all of you to check out. Now it's impressive but it's not as tightly integrated as you would hope, because Apple's gonna prevent it from talking to basic things like the clock app so you can't set alarms. But we really saw at [UNKNOWN] how much their voice assistant has improved and how much smarter it is within it's recognition capabilities, and the ability to display your personal content on your TV. The real question is How big of a jump can Apple make at WWDC with Siri, to show us it's on the same level? I'm not so sure it can be right now, maybe in the future. But I'm hoping that they can surprise us. All right. Bloomberg reports Apple plans to announce A new Macbook. Macbook Pro and possibly a new Macbook Air at the World Wide Developers Conference in June. The updated Macbook Pro's expected to get the faster Kaby lake intel processors. The report said that Apple is also believed to be working on a new version of the 12 inch Macbook with a faster intel chip. We could also possibly see a new 13 inch Macbook Air which you might have thought was on it's way out, but sales of Apple's cheapest laptop Still remains strong and Apple is considering refreshing it. Now we know we'll see updates to everything from iOs, MacOs, WatchOs, and TVOs at WWDC. But rumors are also pointing to the possible debut of Apple's own seri based smart speaker and a long rumor, 10.5 inch iPad pro with the new edge to edge design. Now one iPad that looks like it's on its way out is the iPad Mini. According to [UNKNOWN] Genius Report sources, the 7.9 inch iPad Mini is being phased out. There is no set date for it's discontinuation, but the larger iPhone Plus is believed to be one of the culprits cannibalizing sales of the Mini in addition to the overall declining sales of tablets industry wise. Unless, you're a rich person who likes to buy them for your If in children because you can. And I know at least one of you is watching. So, if you're that person, please reach out and I'll send you my Amazon Wish List. And I don't know about you but I think Apple also needs to work On their iPad TV ads. Like what happened to their charm? I know you've seen the recent ones. The iPad Pro ones using tweets from regular people. Ugh my laptop weighs 5 million tons. Ooh that's heavy. You know the iPad Pro only weighs about a pound and it runs hardworking apps like Excel and PowerPoint. You know what, those ads aren't even good, so we decided to whip up a concept of our own. Alright another report from Boy Genius say's Apple is planning new help features for future Apple watches. They claim Apple is working on new interchangeable smart bands. That could include glucose monitoring and other smart watch brands that could bring other functionality like one that adds a camera to the watch or another that extends battery life. The big A has already filed paten applications for smart bands that could connect through the diagnostic port. They say it will be added to an upcoming new version of the apple watch, but is not clear if it's for the third generation that's expected this fall. Which up to this point Looks like it'll get minor updates like battery improvements, and performance. And I hope you all have a chance to check out this story behind the scenes of the Apple park from Wired. That is truly Steve Jobs' one more thing with his DNA everywhere inside of it. Now some of the highlights to talk about. How the original design wasn't intended to be a circle that we know today. In fact, it was more of a propeller design that turned off [UNKNOWN] and the architects, after his sons told him that from the air, it looked like male genitalia. No one is credited for really calling out the circle design, but it was a natural evolution. Now details from everything. Like, two four-story glass doors for the cafe that weighs 440,000 pounds each. How about this, stone sources from a quarry in Kansas and then distressed like a pair of jeans so that it would look like Job's favorite hotel in Yosemite. So even the container for pizza, That was created and patented by Apple that lets air and moisture escape so the crust won't get soggy. It's all here in Apple Park. Now you want to understand how meticulous S.J. was about this? Here's an account from one of the project leads Stephan Bailing and the story. He says, Jobs discussed the walls he had in mind for the offices. He knew exactly what timber he wanted, but not just I like oak or I like maple. He knew it had to be quarter-cut. It had to be cut in the winter, ideally in January, to have the least amount of sap and sugar content. We were all sitting there, architects, with gray hair, going, Holy [BLEEP]. The project is believed to have cost $5 billion Corners were not cut and it's an amazing building that I hope to one day visit. But it also makes you wonder, have they been paying more attention to this building instead of their actual products? Just saying, so yeah, check it out. It's a great read from Stephen Leeve of Wired. All right, let's check out the app of the week. You know I'm a gamer and this week it has to be all about Injustice 2 for consoles. And the free iOS version. Now I don't think it's even debatable this is the deepest fighting game we've ever seen within a crazy story. Fighting mechanics, gear upgrades that add this RPG element, and the ever changing multi verse mode. And it's deep for both consoles and the free mobile game. So I'm doing a giveaway for Apple Byte nation. All you have to do is combine any of the characters on the injustice two roster with Apple or just some text stuff. This is gonna take effort but I'll give you an idea of what I like for example. Aquamac! What you think about that? Yeah? Get it? Or Johnny Ivy. I know. And trust me I have more but I want you to do some of the work. So I'm giving away game codes for the full ultimate edition for the PS4. The standard edition for the PS4 and an individual code for Darkside for the PS4. So that's three and I'll pick the ones I like the most. You can e-mail us at email@example.com, or tweet me @BRIANTONG with your entries and Photoshop's are welcome. So that's gonna do it for this week, thanks so much for watching and we'll catch you all next time for another bite of the apple.
