My favorite things in the iOS 11 beta for iPad Pro

Operating Systems
What's up, guys? Brian Tong here, and I'm here to talk about the iOS 11 Public Beta. We know it does a lot of cool things on the iPhone. But really where it shines and transforms a device is the iPad Pro. So what I wanna do is really showcase some of the things that I'm having the most fun playing with, and maybe some things you might not know about. And the other thing to really mention here is that, yes, this is a beta. It's not a final version, so some apps may or may not work. Install it at your own risk, but for me, it was worth it to try it on my new iPad Pro. So I'm gonna jump into it. The first thing that really stands out here is the dock on the bottom. And what makes it special is you can access apps and do a lot of things, multitasking, really, with it. So, I'm going to start off with something like opening up our web browser. And obviously we've got to love Spiderman. It's the hot movie out right now. But let's say if I wanted to do something and I'm just going to flick up, show up my dock and bring in an app like my mail app. I'm going to pull it out here And instantly now I have two screens that are separated. I can adjust that size as well. I'm gonna take a picture of Spiderman and maybe I want to put it in this email. Well, guess what? The magic of drag and drop on the iPad Pro, thanks to IOS 11, I'm just gonna pull it over here, bring it to that email Boom, just like that. Now, what also is really cool is, not only can you use two apps, if I flick up one more time let's bring up something like twitter here. I'm going to pull it in the middle, and it will actually float on top and you see here we basically have three apps running on the iPad at the same time. That's really cool. Now, also with the dock you can customize it. You can add like a dozen apps, and it will show you recent ones so, I can just pull something like My Marvel Unlimited app, throw it in there. Something like my ComiXology because, come on, I love reading comics here. And when I pull those in there, they'll be available on every screen whenever I want, whenever I pull up the doc. Another cool thing, we're talking about drag and drop and selecting multiple things. I'm just going to pop into something like our Photos app here, and I have a variety of different photos here- comic book covers, basically. And I'm going to take A single photo like this, you can see I'm holding down and it's floating around. And then, I'm just gonna tap on different ones here, and what you'll see here, is it adds it, kind of like a pile of multiple photos that I now have. Using my other finger, I'm gonna flick up Go to the dock. And now I'm gonna jump into my files app. And here it will enable us to drag and drop this into different folders however I want. Now Control Center is another new thing in IOS 11. They've really completely redesigned it. So if I just double tap on the home button here, you'll see it in a panel on your left side It enables you to adjust the volume and the brightness of your device on the fly. You have different things like your music player, or your utilities like WiFi and Bluetooth. But what's also different and interesting about it is you can customize it. There's some things that aren't there by default. So if I just jump into my settings I'm gonna go here and find Control Center which is on the left side. and then I am going to it here customize controls and what is cool here is you'll see a list of additional kind of utilities I can add. I'm going to most definitely going to add screen recording and the apple tv remote and then when I pop back out to my home but home screen and then when we go to double tap here you'll now see the screen record and the apple tv I can even just pop that right now And then navigate around here, and this will actually take a live screen recording of what we're doing as we're moving around. I can flip around through the menus, and navigate here, and when I'm done just go back here, stop it. And I'll actually save a file of that video to the photos. And I really want the apps that really changes how we run the iPad prose but also how the Apple pen is used is note. So, et's jump into the note app right now. I'm gonna open it up and then I'm gonna create a new note here, and I'm gonna write this right here. this is a test and hopefully my hand writing is clean enough but what you will see is this is a hand written note and it has character recognition so what I can do here is you even just saw instantly on the left Inside. It saw that this is a test, but what's cool is, you can later search for texts that you have handwritten directly in the notes app and it will show you that. So, that's really sweet, we've never seen anything like that one the iPad Pro. The other thing that it also does, is taking screenshots and then being able to mark that up, so let's just go over here, just for fun, I'm just gonna generically take a screen shot of My home screen here. You'll see a little icon in the bottom left-hand corner. I you wanna just save it, you can swipe away. But I'm gonna press on that, and it's gonna blow it up. I can now choose to either crop that section of the screenshot if I wanted to. And then even better, if I wanted to mark it up, I could just be like there you go. Put that marking down on it, and then send it away as a file as well. Again, something that's really cool that really leverages the power of this, the Apple pencil. And then the last thing that the Notes app does that's really cool is now document scanning. So down here in the right hand corner, I'm just gonna press on this plus sign. And you have a few options of what you want to do with this note, I'm gonna just click Scan Documents. And then what it will do is it will automatically use the iPad's camera And so I have this document here. I'm just gonna pick up the iPad and I'm gonna hold it over here. And you'll be able to see it starts to be able to kind of generically read what that document looks like. I'm gonna take that picture. And then if it's not right on the money, it'll actually allow you to adjust the edges. And then if I keep scan. You'll now see that document here just like that. So there you have it. I mean, this is just some of the really cool things that the iPad Pro can now do on iOS 11. There's gonna be a whole lot more, but right now in the public beta, these are the things that I like the most. [MUSIC]
