>> Hi, I'm Matthew Moskovciak, assistant editor at CNET.com and this is the Emvix[sp?] MX760 HD. This is a network-streaming device, which means you can stream movies, music, and photos from your computer to your living room and eventually onto your TV. As you can see from the design of the Emvix can be mounted upright in the stand or it can also be placed horizontally. You may notice that it looks like a hard drive enclosure and that's because you actually can put a hard drive inside of the unit instead of streaming it from your computer, you can play files locally. Looking at the rest of the design it doesn't look quite as snazzy as the Apple TV, which is one of its competitors but for those that don't mind the high-tech look it's not bad. Around back, we can check out the ports. there's a DVI port for video output and that can go up to 1080P, there is also a component video and you'll see there is two USB ports for network connectivity, there is the ether net port and there is also wireless 802.11 G although not the faster end spec that the Apple TV uses. For features, what we really like about the device is its wide range of file format support, although it can't play any DRN protected content. For performance, it was mixed, while it had no problem with standard video files, high depth video files did make a choke a little bit over the wireless connection, but if you use the wire connection, you should be all right. Overall we think the Emvix will appeal to those that are enthusiasts in like to do it themselves but there are some quirks and it's not as slick as the Apple TV and that will probably limit it to enthusiasts and alike.
