>> Hi, I'm Kent German, senior editor here at CNET.com. Today we're gonna take a first look at the Motorola W490. This is a new phone for T-Mobile service. This phone is a lot like the W385 which you saw for Verizon, and also the Krazr. Very narrow, still pretty thin, a little more boxy than the Krazr is, little sharper angles. Unlike the W385 this does have a square external display, the W385 is vertical, so. This is color, it shows all the information you need, also shows photo caller ID. Though we couldn't get it working as a viewfinder for taking self portrait which I thought a little odd, since it certainly has that capability. Here on the top you do have a camera lens, no flash which is a bit disappointing. Also the camera as a whole didn't take the best pictures. Here on the side we have the volume rocker with a traditional Motorola smart key, which helps to change ringer, profiles, and all sorts of things. Here on this side you have a voice command button that's only used when the phone is open. Down here you have the mini USB port for using that charger, or USB cable as well. Inside, internal display is fine, pretty bright and colorful, shows what you need. It's fine for this caliber of phone, not too exciting, but, but pretty good. Here in the keypad buttons are navigation controls, they're not too bad to use. There's a navigation toggle with an OK button in the center, you have a couple of soft keys, dedicated button for the T zones feature which of course is T-Mobile's internet service for getting games and photos and pictures, and all that kind of stuff. Keypad buttons, they are flat with the surface of the phone, it's typical for phones like this. Tiny raised ridges between the individual rows and columns, so a little tactile but not that much.

So if you're doing this for fast texting or fast dialing you're gonna want to watch what you're doing. Pretty mid-range features overall. I'm Kent German, this is the Motorola W490.
