>> Hi, I'm Kent German, senior editor here at CNET.com. Today we're going to take a first look at the Motorola Slvr L7C. This is the new phone for Sprint service. The Slvr L7C is the CDMA version of the Slvr L7, which is the original thin phone from Motorola. After Motorola found out it had so much success with the Razr, they decided to make a candy bar phone and this is it. This is the first CDMA version of the Slvr family. There's a lot of Slvrs on the GSM side. But this is the first one is for Sprint. Looks a lot like a Slvr L7 version that Cingular has. Basic black design, very same form factor, kind of curves here at the top, really thin. It is just a tiny bit wider overall though. The keys are just about the same. You have a volume rocker here. You do have a Motorola smart key here. On this side there's a dedicated camera button. And a mini SD port that Motorola used for charging these phones now and for connecting the USB port or anything like that. Here on the back you do have a camera lens. It's in its usual location. There is no flash or self portrait mirror, so any kind of fancy shots are going to have to be a problem. Now the GSM version of this Slvr L7, we did love that the micro SD slot was right here on the side. Made for easy access, put the card in and out. You didn't have to turn off the phone, didn't have to do anything. Unfortunately on this phone though, you do. That's a huge design flaw in our opinion. First of all you have to turn off the phone if you want to get out your card or put one in. Have to take the back cover off. Take it off like that. Get into the battery, take that out. And there's the slot. It's actually hard to manipulate as well. This comes off. And the card, the card will pop out, but actually this silver flap right here can pop all the way off as well. We had a little trouble getting it back in. So not a fan of that at all. This is an EVDO phone for Sprint, so it is capable to the carriers Power Vision service and the Sprint music store, so you can download music, you can watch those streaming videos. Anything you can do on another Sprint video phone. Over all this will appeal to people who like the thin phone but really don't want the flip phone because it's great for candy bar aficionados, has just about all the other features you might need. A VGA camera so it is mega pixel but it does have Bluetooth, speaker phone and as I said, the EVDO support. I'm Kent German and this is the Motorola Slvr L7C.
