Drone racing is fun, but racing tiny drones through set pieces from the cancelled too soon sci-fi TV series Firefly, well that's even better.

So the way I feel about this race taking set on this set of Firefly.
I had no idea and I absolutely was blown away when I saw that.
That this is where a tiny operation will be done.
Drone racing company DR1 decided to put together a micro series for high speed flights in miniature.
It makes flying on sets like this possible which also makes for some really cool visuals.
When I saw the set for the first time, it was pretty exciting that, it's like mind blowing.
He's a fan of the show and when I found that out it kind of gave me a little more motivation to win the competition.
Adding to the excitement, this was team race.
Pilots had to not only concentrate on being a great pilot themselves, but also keep an eye on their team mate's performance as well.
You're only as strong as your partner, you guys are watching out for each other.
So I love what it does, it brings commodore, and it teaches you, it teaches you to be a team.
Teacher.
I think that team racing is worth that.
Piloting micro drones through this space ship set is a bit different than flying a full sized drone on a huge track.
You still need fast reflexes and intense focus, but the smaller scale of the drones also means tighter tracks and a little more flexibility when it comes to bumping into things, like other pilots.
With microdrones, you can get a little bit crazier on the track, a little more reckless.
If you hit something, the props won't break, because you have these little protectors on the propellers.
You can bounce off walls, you can hit competitors, and you're not going to get knocked out of the air.
It's not just about making a smaller scale circuit though.
DR1 hopes its microseries might inspire an army of new drone pilots who hope to go pro some day.
Micro Series is our ability to create something that was a little more accessable, and allow people to look at it and feel that they too could possibly fly that course.
And it wasn't as dangerous or as scary but still exciting.
And I think that's important for an emerging sport is to have something that everybody can share in and have fun doing together as well as look at something and see a professional fight and say that's really cool.
This particular race will be broadcast sometime this year.
So you'll have a chance to see how the team aspect plays out for yourself if you're interested.
But even if you don't catch this race, DR1 will definitely continue to create imaginative courses for drones of all shapes and sizes.
We get to go as these great locations, as these great sets and film places that can make you feel like you're in a different world.
You're exploring it but this way in a drone.
And this totally just plays the part, this feels like you are on a.
Spaceship, and it looks like you're on a spaceship.
Yeah, I'm super stoked, I can't wait for the racing to start.
For CNET.com, I'm Ashley Esqueda.
