Lovermail Edition II
Hello, everyone! Im Molly Wood and welcome to the CNET Mailbag, the show where
you ask questions about CNET, complain about technical issues, sometimes send
incoherent rants of some sort, and sometimes you just love us. Like today, in our
second-ever, Lovermail Edition. Lets dive right in with Jon, who says:
Eric Franklin's most recent video about the HP monitor was hilarious. The
ok, well, I dont want to spoil it for you, so Ill move on to Roberts reaction. He said:
In regards to the First Look on the HP w2558hc:
Win.
Yeah. Exactly. HP w2558hc. Watch it. Now.
Moving on, Fred says:
Bravo on BOL episode 1033 with Federal CTO Aneesh Chopra! It's great to see CNET
has realized it has infinite time to dig into special topics. It seems like your counter-parts
in broadcast think segments
can only be six minutes because they need to get to the next story. No, the audience's
attention span isn't that short. 30 minutes with a high government official who can make
big changes in all our lives is time will spent.
More, please!
You got it. Next stop, Obama. Well, ok. But well try to keep the high-profile guests
coming.
Next up, Grants got love for Tom and he wasnt alone. He said:
I have to congratulate Tom Merrit and the video editor on the Hacks: Why AT&T
blocked 4Chan video. It explained the situation very well and taught me quite a bit I
didn't know about the net. Hope to see more of these expliantions in the future.
Lots of love on that Hacks video. And I agree. Ok, heres one for Cooley. Carrick says:
I'd like to congratulate Brian Cooley on starring in the funniest CNet podcast that I've
watched. His segment on the 2010 Volvo XC60 was hilarious! I could really feel his
shear frustration throughout the entire podcast. I nearly fell over when he talked about the
vehicle's smart key! Tell Brian to keep up the good laughs.
For Brian Tong, Gregory has this:
thank you for publishing a multitude of wonderful and useful tips for Mac users. I'd also
like to thank Brian Tong for being as adept and knowledgeable of the Mac platform as he
is. He puts on a wonderful show that is not only useful but is also highly entertaining.
And then, for me, yay! Christian said
I just wanted to say that Mailbag 8/4/2009 doesn't have audio.
Oh. Thats kind of all the mail I got this week well, and mail about how last weeks
Mailbag identified me as Tom Merritt. Its cool, though. I know you love me. And
actually, the when we fixed the Tom Merritt thing we broke the audio and then the
its better now.
ANYWAY, not everyone loves everything we do. Simmonsdd writes in outrage to say:
In re the buzz report promo IN MY PODCAST FEED!
Hey Molly, Believe it or not I'm a huge fan. but...
Perhaps you could explain the wisdom of putting a commercial, whose sole purpose is to
get me to subscribe to your podcast, in my podcast feed? If this were you website -
acceptable use, but duh? Allow me to explain. See, if I get the podcast, that means I'm
already subscribed. if the purpose is to get me to watch it, well if I saw your promo,
hmmm, aren't I already watching it? This is so old media stupid it makes me want to
scream. Stop abusing the privilege I give you of my bandwidth usage for pushing useless
stupid crap!
Yeah. Accident. See, we published these little promo videos that we made for our sales
team, and since we put them up on CNET TV and they were categorized to the specific
shows, they ended up in the podcast feed. Were sorry. Were working really hard to
make sure you dont get ads for the show youre watching and all that. In this case, our
system is just too smart for its own good.
And finally no auto-incorrect, but a tiny bit of crazymail. Lindy says:
Could you please ask Andy Rooney if I can have his "Joe's Stone Crab" vouchers if he
isn't going to use them? This is my favorite food and I would use up every cent and
appreciate every single morsel!!
Thats, uh well. See. They dont actually let me talk to Andy Rooney. But if I see him
around Ill try.
And thats it for this week, everyone! Keep the feedback and questions coming! Email
me at Mailbag@cnet.com, or send your snail mail to 235 2nd St., San Francisco, CA,
94105. Thanks for watching, everyone.
