>> Best Buy offers the MacBook for cheap, the Army gets $50 million for gaming, and the NFL goes 3D. It's Tuesday, November 25, I'm Mark Licea and it's time to get Loaded. ^M00:00:09 [ Music ] ^M00:00:13 >> The Army is about to get on par with its bonafide gamers. The government plans to blow a solid $50 million for their upcoming next-generation first person shooter training system. The virtual worlds in the program will be around 10,000 square kilometers and will aim to recreate situations that soldiers encounter on the battlefield. The program will allow soldiers to change the terrain and operate vehicles, aircrafts and more. The system will also feature multiplayer functionality. The Army has no plans to compete with the commercial video gaming business, but if the Army really wants some competition, I know a few 12-year olds through Xbox Live that will give them a run for their money. On Monday show, Natali mentioned that the 2.2 iPhone firmware update had a size limit preventing users from downloading large shows, like Loaded, but our viewers corrected us. If you are connected through a Wi-Fi, then you can download as large a file size as you want as long as your battery and Internet connection allow. So on that note, go on, download as many episodes of anything and everything CNET TV and watch to your heart's content. Opera Mini 4.2 is out for the G1. The beta version that we saw at launch still had a few kinks that needed to be worked out, but the final Android version is now available on the market. The new version should be a lot faster and it is the first alternative to the G1's built-in browser. Apple may not be getting a price cut on the MacBook this holiday, but you can still nab one for a hundred bucks cheaper than its list price. Best Buy is offering Apple's current line-up of MacBooks from 100 to 150 bucks less. Considering that Apple stated recently that its line-up is quote -- set for the holiday season. Unless they do decide to drop that price to match Best Buy, looks like most consumers will not be buying MacBooks at the Apple Store this holiday season. Google has a plan to better monetize TV ads. The proposed TV ad system will be a lot like Google's AdWords for the Web. The advertisers assign keywords to their product and Google System determines where and when the ad should be placed. It allows advertisers to browse shows based on audience demographics like age and gender. A development between a satellite TV company EchoStar and credit reporting company Equifax will provide the information on what shows are being watched while pulling information on a user's income and buying habits provided by Equifax. Based on that information, Google will then determine what ads are best targeted to a specific demographic. This all sounds a little scary, but the product manager for Google's TV Ad unit said that all the data will be kept anonymous. Let's hope we can trust them on that. The NFL is coming at you in 3D. Next week, on December 4, the National Football League is broadcasting the chargers and raters game live in 3D. The event will be held in theaters in L.A., New York and Boston on the big screen and it will also be showcased on 3D television displays at the event. A Burbank-based company will shoot the game using special 3D cameras and transmit via satellite. Try not to attack anyone at the theater. According to a survey from Microsoft, the family that plays together stays together. A recent survey with Ipsos and StrategyOne for the Xbox 360 found that gaming will help bring families together this holiday season, which makes sense of you think about it. The economy isn't the greatest. You're stuck indoors and you'll need something that will entertain everyone. The survey showed that 71% of respondents were looking for one gift to bring the family together and 81% of adults were looking for at-home entertainment. So, on the plus side of a terrible economy we'll at least be cultivating the next generation of hard-core gamers. PayPal is offering added security with your phone. The new PayPal SMS security key system sends you a text message with a 6-digit security code. The code expires in 30 seconds, so anyone going through your phone later on won't be able to access your account. So you'll still follow the same login procedure with your username and password, but the code will hopefully help strengthen security threats and make you feel like a secret agent at the same time. You're stuck having to prepare thanksgiving all on your own and you don't exactly know your way around the kitchen all that well. Before you get too overwhelmed, the Inquirer.net lists a few helpful sites that you can visit. The Food Network has a ton of great recipes that don't look too hard to prepare. And allrecipes.com features the top 20 of their favorite thanksgiving dishes. Now I'm not cooking on Thursday, I'll be at my grandmas, but if any of you folks have recipes that you wanna share with Natali and I, specifically deserts, definitely do write in. I do enjoy a good pie. That does it for today. We do have a very special Thanksgiving edition of Loaded for you tomorrow that you would definitely wanna check-out. Enjoy the holiday and be safe folks, I'm Mark Licea and you've just been Loaded. ^M00:04:30 [ Music ]
