Loaded: EEE PC upgrade

Culture
It's National Cheeseball Day. I'm serious. Google it! So happy national cheeseball day to you, from one cheeseball to another. Its Thursday, April 17 and its time to get Loaded. Ever since we saw the first EEE PC, we felt a hint of techno lust. Now that Asus has ditched the dorky speakers from the screen, we want it even more. Rory Reid from CNET UK got his hands on the 9 inch version of the Asus EEE PC. Take a look: I was disappointed to hear that the keyboard wasn't upgraded. The cramped keyboard was my biggest complaint. I'm still leaning towards the HP mini-note in this subnotebook category but I'll reserve judgement until we get a look at the new small and cheap Dell that is on its way. Google says version 4.3 of Google Earth will soon be available. The new version integrates the much-talked about Google Street View from Google Maps, as well as improved 3D navigation functions. Version 4.3 also adds a sunlight feature that will enable users to see where on Earth the sun is currently shining and satellite images will now be marked with the date they were snapped. All in all, a welcome update to the earth. Verizon introduced a clever, but simple program aimed at helping people remember to take their medication. The Pill Book service will work on Verizon phones and allow users to set dates and times for when they should take particular medications. It's not a bad idea, but in typical Verizon fashion, the carrier is charging $3.99 per month for the service. Here's a free tip: enter the same data in your phone's calendar and save the four bucks. Tomorrow is the 233rd anniversary of the famous Paul Revere ride. I know that is a totally random historical fact but there is a reason I bring it up. The Old North Church in Boston is where Paul Revere received the signal that the British were coming, which is what spawned that ride. Recently the very old church got a high tech makeover and the Loaded team roadtripped to Boston to take a look. A Bay Area man used Twitter to get himself out of jail. The man was arrested at a demonstration in Egypt and as he was being hauled off, he Twittered the word "arrested." His Twitter community saw it and was able to rally together and get him a lawyer and the help of his university, UC Berkeley. The next day, he walked free. I have to admit, I don't use Twitter. Several people have tried to convince me that I should but so far no one has been able to give me a compelling enough reason. Until now. The Microsoft surface will be unveiled in AT&T stores today in New York, San Francisco, Atlanta, and San Antonio. This is Microsoft's table top computer. The Loaded crew will be heading over to take a first look when the store opens so check back this weekend for your sneak peak on CNET TV. We'll also show you the goods on Monday's episode of Loaded. Before we wrap up the show I wanted to read some viewer email. I heard from one viewer in Kentucky about the broadband issue there and Jonah said: "I would like to see this get funded as there are still areas of this state where dialup is the only connectivity to the internet. Beshear is being consistent, however, as the new administration is cutting back on many items including higher education in order to rectify the previous administration's budget problems." Thank you for that perspective, Jonah. I also heard from a few people about Strutta and most of you said you are not really motivated to use the site either so we're still looking for the site's target demographic. For instance, Michael wrote: "Who is going to follow this competition for one year? I certainly won't, and I'm 15 turning 16 next month. Am I their demographic? I was thinking maybe they can separate each competition by season, and at the end of the year you have the winners of each season compete and the one that wins claims the prize." Also, a few of you wrote me about Lifetime TV and you confirmed my suspicion. Men don't like it. Christopher said he was going to try to have his lady start watching some of the Lifetime programming on her iPhone so that he can regain posession of the television. Good luck with that, Christopher. Those are all of your headlines for today and that does it for me this week. But don't forget to tune into CNET TV tomorrow for your weekly wrap-up with Molly Wood on the Buzz Report. Have a great day! I'm Natali Del Conte and you've just been Loaded.
