CNET First Look
LG DoubleplayThe LG Doubleplay is a pretty good Android smartphone with support for T-Mobile's 4G network, but its bizarre dual screen design is not for everyone.
-I'm Nicole Lee, senior associate editor for CNET.com and this is a first look at the LG DoublePlay for T-Mobile. At first glance, the LG DoublePlay looks like a pretty ordinary android smart phone. It has a 3.5-inch HVGA display on the front here. It's very sharp, very colorful. The graphics pop with color. The phone itself is a little bit bulky as you can see here. It weighs around 6.7 ounces, but that's because it slides open to reveal a full QWERTY keyboard as well as a second LCD display. The sub display here measures 2-inches diagonally and has QVGA resolution. It is also a touchscreen. The idea behind the DoublePlay is that you can multitask with 2 different screens. For example, you can send a text on the big one and the small one, you can just use to scroll through your existing text messages. One other disadvantages of having these 2 displays, however, is the split keyboard. We found it pretty easy to type because the keys are large and raised as you can see here, but we just don't find it very natural to type this way. Aside from the split keyboard and the second display, underneath the main display are usual 4 android short cut keys. Now, on the back is the 5-megapixel camera with LED flash. The phone shoots with android 2.3 Gingerbread and has up to 7 customizable home screens. The Wi-Fi here can support up to 5 Wi-Fi enabled devices through a mobile hotspot feature and there's also Wi-Fi calling. That means you can make calls over Wi-Fi. The LG DoublePlay shoots with a 1 Gigahertz Qualcomm Scorpion processor. We found it quite zippy and snappy even though it's not a dual core processor. The DoublePlay is one of T-Mobile's 4G phones, which means it's of course the HSPA plus network. It also has DLNA support, which means it can stream music and media with other DLNA enabled devices. The LG DoublePlay is available for around $100 with a new 2-year service agreement with T-Mobile. I'm Nicole Lee and this has been a first look at the LG DoublePlay.
