Lenovo Essential G570
I'm Dan Ackerman and we are here taking a look at the Lenovo Essential G570.
Now if you're saying to yourself what's in Essential?
Well, it's a line of Lenovo laptops that's a real kind of entry-level budget line.
They've got obviously the more business-oriented ThinkPads and the more consumer-oriented IdeaPads and there are some real cool IdeaPads out there.
And of course, ThinkPads are really high in business machines.
The Essential line kind of takes a little bit
from each category there.
Trimmed it down; they're much more plasticky but they're also a lot more affordable starting at about $500 but they can go up from there.
This particular version we saw online for about $579, which is about right for a budget 15-inch laptop except this guy has an Intel Core i5 CPU from the current generation.
And we did some comparison shopping and that's actually about as cheap as you can get that right now.
I tried to put together comparable systems from
HP and Dell.
They all ended up being about $100 more.
So if you're looking for a mid-sized budget laptop with a more mainstream CPU instead of, let's say, a less expensive AMD chip or Core i3.
This is definitely something you would wanna check out.
Now compared to the regular ThinkPad or IdeaPad laptops, much more plasticky design.
It's not garish but the back of it is super-glossy, picks a ton of fingerprints.
You do get some of the learnings I guess from the IdeaPad line bleeding down there.
You got the cool Lenovo
keyboard which is sort of a variation on that island-style keyboard except for the bottom of each key kind of boze out a little bit and I actually find that great for when you're typing really fast and your finger sort of rushes the bottom of the key.
You actually get it here.
Whereas if it was just a strictly square key, you might miss the key.
So I found typing to be pretty easy.
Nice big touchpad.
The left and right mouse buttons are kinda cheap and clacky.
And you know what, some of the keys actually squeak a little bit while I was typing and those are some sort of the budgetary issues that you face trading down
to a line like this.
Now you don't get all those security features and system set of features that you get in more high-end ThinkPads and even some IdeaPads.
You do still get some of Lenovo's really pretty decent homemade software like they have their facial recognition software.
They have a boot optimizer, so you do get just enough of that Lenovo flavor to make this stand out from other more generic plastic budget laptops.
I'm Dan Ackerman and that's the Lenovo Essential G570.
