JBL Duet II

>> The cool thing about desktop speaker system is that they're so universal that you can usually plug them into any audio source in a pinch. I'm Jasmine France and I'm here with the JBL Duet II desktops speakers. Now, these as you can kind of tell are a little less blah than a lot of the desktop speakers you see out there. I happen to like it. I like JBL's space-agey design that they have going on here and actually these kind of remind of Walla lamps, but you know, a lot less gothy. Now, these are very small for desktop speakers, but they do have a long and narrow design that should work well, placed on either side of a computer monitor. Now, a couple things of note about these speakers and I'm going to start with the things that I don't like. The first thing is that they have quite a tangle of wires coming off of the back and it's a little messy looking and it takes a little time to get it set up at first so that you hide all the wires. The second thing is that as with most desktop speakers these are really bass-deficient, so you're not going to get a lot of low-end out of these speakers. Now, that's really my only complain about these. I do like the style. They have clear audio response. There is no background hiss or anything like that and they also have a volume knob built-in to the top of the left speaker here and there's plenty of length between the two speakers so that you can place them really far apart and got great stereo separation from the unit. Another thing, they have the standard 3.5 millimeter connection, so that means you can connect it to pretty much any audio source that you want. So, if you want to take it off to your computer and connect it to your mp3 player you certainly can do that. And these are going to set you back a hundred bucks, not super cheap in this game of things, but also not super expensive. So, if you're looking for a nice sounding set of speakers and you dig the design the JBL Duet II could be just what you're looking for. I'm Jasmine France for CNET.
