Culture
[MUSIC] Welcome back to the show, everybody. Our guest today is a very delightful lady. She has played Wonder Woman in the rainfall. All films short film. She is a member of team unicorn. She also has a science show that she created that she's going to tell us all about. Reilly thanks for being here. Thanks you guys for having me. Thanks. I'm so glad that you decided to swing by our studios. Yeah! You're busy. Well yes I have like 12 different jobs. [LAUGH] So it's hard to get out of the I, I've the office. I don't really have an office. I mean, I go places and do things. Yeah. The office is always with you. Yeah. And be, my. It'd be your heart. It's been in your heart right here. [LAUGH]. Right. This is my office. Yeah. So let's talk about. Let's just get this right out of the game. Let's talk about [INAUDIBLE] HQ. Yeah. Cause this is a really big deal. Yeah. And you are executive producer thing have created a science show. Yup. That is going to be on Comic Con HQ. Yeah, so Comic Con International decided to team up with Lionsgate and create kind of a subscription based video on demand channel, and that's kind of the way that all our entertainment is going these days, so they're kind of jumping on that bandwagon. But hopefully doing it before a lot of people do it better But we're really excited. All the content is really curated for the Comic-Con crowd. And it's really exciting for me because as a lover of science, they were super enthusiastic about the idea that I had. And they're like, let's make a show. And so I'm making a show. Well can you tell us what the idea is? So, I love science. Me too. Everybody loves science. I mean, you should love science. If you're watching this show you should definitely love science. I hope so. I mean. There's science based in everything. This is the way, when we're kids, we want to discover things. We want to find out about things, how things work. And I've always loved that. But I noticed over the last couple years that there has been kind of a void when it comes to current scientific news. Like we have a new show for sports, politics, entertainment, but we have nothing actually discussing current scientific discoveries and anything in STEM fields and STEM fields is science, technology, Engineering and math. Right. So, so for me, I was like well that kind of seems weird, why we don't have a thing yet. Science is all around us, it's what makes the world work. And it's very interesting. So I was like, why don't we do a science show that is, based off of current science, Discoveries and stuff that people don't necessarily know is happening and kind of put that in the spotlight. Yeah. I love it. Explaining, sort of, the cutting edge of science. You know what we are discovering know. And what it means. Giving context of like and making it very. it seems like you guys really want to make this content. Not unlike what we do here on Shore daily. Very edible for people, very understandable and like have fun while you're doing it. There's some great Science shows out there. You have How the Universe Works, or Through the Wormhole. Which, I love that show. A great show. Yeah. But that show is on a level that even sometimes I can't understand some of the concepts that they have. Sure. I'm just like. And with them, there's some really big concepts, like. Right. Science can be an extremely overwhelming thing. It can be. I mean, there's a lot that's involved in it. So we, we definitely want to kind of make science cool, which is, already is cool, but. Yeah. I don't want to bring that up. And yeah, and get people really interested in science again. That's kind of like. And what better way to do that. Then with somebody who just played Wonder Woman. [LAUGH] That's very true. Tell us about that experience! Well, that experience was kind of the best. My mom will tell you since I was a little girl, Wonder Woman was always my favorite. And I kept saying: one day I will be Wonder Woman! So, to actually have it happen, even though it was Couple years ago now it was pretty surreal. I saw you mention online that someone actually commented about it a few days ago. They were like, I thought that one a couple years ago was really was better. That was really funny. Well with the new movie coming out, Batman and Superman. There's a Wonder Woman cameo with Gal Gadot. And yeah, I was overhearing two nerds talking about the movie and talking about Wonder Woman and how cool it was. And then they were like, well that's pretty good, but There's this thing on line a couple years ago. Um-hm. And I was like, my gosh. This is so crazy. That's when you have to go, it was me. Yeah, but you know? I was thinking about it. Tell me a story, guys. But then I was like, you know? This is like a secret identity moment. That's true. Yeah. So I was like, and now you can't say anything. And now you have the full Wonder Woman experience. Yeah. [LAUGH]. And not just Wonder Woman. You've also got the, the, Miss, the Miss experience. Yeah. Right. Yeah. Yeah. You have the Anna Prince experience, where you can hear what people's thoughts on you were. [LAUGH]. It's a little odd. It's a little weird. That, that's never happened to me before. But it was, it was so much fun doing that. And just. How motivated I was to work out. [LAUGH] Because when I heard [CROSSTALK] [INAUDIBLE] I was just like when are we shooting this? And they're like, 12 weeks. I was like, so I have like 10, 11 weeks to actually get into shape. Cut to the montage. Yeah, and that's what happened. Rocky montage [CROSSTALK] Yeah, I actually did a fitness Blogs during that time, so it would keep me accountable. But I was working out, I think I was working out six days a week doing cardio five of those days and then just weight training. And then just eating right foods, getting rid of sugar and salt and drinking tons of water and So you went through a little bit of what the actors in these new superhero movies do. Yep. Because they really sacrifice their bodies for these films. The new superhero diet. All you've got to do is step one [UNKNOWN] cast of the superhero. Yep Step two, do the diet. [INAUDIBLE] Yeah, just do whatever it takes. I feel like they have a It's hard. Obviously they're going through the work. But, they also have a team. They have a nutritionist. Right. They have how many work out buddies. And also, a lot of pressure, and millions of dollars riding on them. Yeah. Would terrify me into eating whatever someone told me Like Im just gonna be like I will just tell me what to do. Just Give it to me. I don't want to mess this up That's me I mean as long as you send it to me and it's there and I just put it in the microwave or the oven. I'll just eat whatever you put in front of me. I dont know man. I was reading about Hugh Jackman's routine for Wolverine and he has to eat every. Two hours? Yeah. Has to. And they wake him up to eat, it's crazy town. The Rock, too. There was a guy on Reddit who did the Rock Diet and he went through it for a month. Did he become The Rock? No, but he lost a lot of weight. And he did a really good job, and The Rock actually acknowledged him on social media, was like "Great job, guy." Yeah, actually on my phone, and it's still set there even though I haven't actually done it, but I have Six meals a day plus three snacks. So and my phone will ding when I am supposed to eat. Like 7 am first meal, 9 am second meal, 11 O'clock third meal. I do that but it's all like donut I know it's the content of the meal that is the problem for us.< And the exercising part, we have to work off those all those< I don't see why that is a necessary<we have="" to="" calories="" <what="" are="" the="" other="" things="" you="" do="" i="" think="" that="" is="" realy="" cool="" we="" talking="" about="" fashion="" earlier="" but="" team="" unicorn="" guys="" a="" bunch="" of="" different="" <="" div=""></we> Stuff. Yeah. You guys had a music video. You had an All About That Bass. We had a couple music videos, actually. We started, Team Unicorn started as a parody geek girl band like the Spice Girls. And we just thought we were gonna do, we did Geeking Gamer Girls like Katy Perry's California Girls. And we thought it would just a be a one off whatever, you know, just having fun. And then it actually- And it blew up. Yeah it turned into something. And this is back in the day where, I mean, this was six years ago so the geek girl thing, even though it shouldn't have been a thing, it was a thing. People really responded to it. And yeah we were just like whoa I guess we have something special we should continue to go on with it. We've done stream music videos and then some straight up parodies of other things too so. But then you guys were also moving into stuff like clothing design. Yeah it's been really- for those of you who have not been following Riley on InstaGram first of all go do that, and secondly you guys posted a picture of these really rad Throwback retro looking Star Trek bathing suits that were probably my favorite thing ever in the whole universe. [LAUGH] I'll make sure you get one. [LAUGH] Just don't get the red one cuz you'll likely drown. No, I don't want a red suit. I don't want to be a red suit. I don't want to be a red suit. [LAUGH] I mean, I get it. I'll give that to my sister. I get it. Yeah so again I think we're really good at seeing where there's holes in pop culture, like what needs to be filled in. And we notice that as far as like geek girl fashion is concerned, a lot of that is getting filled now. But the one thing we were looking at was You know, swimwear. And how no one really makes nerdy swimwear. And if you do find it, it's like the $20 super cheap stuff you wear two times, then it falls apart. I'm sure you find this very fascinating. God. It's like I've been looking for the right bikini for like a year. Finally we're having this this conversation. I know, it seems like a really important conversation. I think you were going to ask [CROSSTALK] Well we were talking earlier in this episode before you got her about 3d printed fashion which is sort of becoming a thing. There's this rose pettle dress tha hit the internet, I don't know if you saw anything about it. But what do you think about the idea of A three printing to your exact specifications and making the exact dress that you want. I love that. Kinda scratches both those itches, right? Of the geeky thing of like fiddling around to make it just right and then. I mean, I think there's a lot of movies. A lot of costume designers on movies I've been doing, I think even since, like, Tron. Sure. [CROSSTALK] Where they digitally capture the actor's body. To create. To create around that. So it's basically just perfect measurements. But, yeah, I think that's Kind of the way things are going to go especially when 3D printers get cheaper and cheaper and cheaper, which they have been, I think you'll see a lot more 3D printed fashion. So in terms of, aside from 3D printing in fashion, because you're doing a science show I have to ask what to you is the most exciting Thing in science right now. To you, what's the thing that really grabs you as a person. Well personally I've always been drawn to anything space related. Since I was a little girl, if I wasn't going to go into acting I think I probably would have gone in to astronomy or something to do with that. So there's There's a lot of amazing concept and like astrophysics. And one of the biggest things that has happened lately is they have figure it out, now what's it called? They have proved gravitational wave. Yeah. We had a Ligo team member come on and talk about that. Did you? Yeah. it was great. It was fascinating. And a great example of what we were talking about, something that kind of hard to wrap your head around. And it's great to have a way, a show like what you're talking about kind of break it down and understand why that's a big deal. Because it's like, who care what's happening out- So far away, right, and then it's also so infinitesimal when it finally reaches us it's so hard to understand what does that mean. What does that mean? But it has huge ramifications, yeah. And that was one of the examples we were using as we were talking about the show and stuff and being This show is happening now. This is something we would talk about currently as it was happening. And try to explain in a way that the normal, you and me type of people, would be able to understand. Through demonstrations or whatever. Like a modern sort of Mr. Wizard. I used to love that show. You guys aren't you aren't even old enough to remember that show. Obviously she does. She does. [LAUGH] We watched it. No I'm old, it's my birthday today. I just went one year older. My hardware is upgrading right now [INAUDIBLE]. [LAUGH] You're downloading right now. Internal hardware is upgrading. Okay, so let's wrap this up, so people are going to be able to go to Comicon International to check out HQ? When is this launching? So the beta launch is in. May. First of May. [LAUGHTER] Sounds really confident. No, no, no. I just have a thing. I was like when does [UNKNOWN] my show ready by? [LAUGHTER] May. May 7th, I think they're gonna do a soft launch on May 7th. Right now the beta is. Free. Okay, you can try it before you buy it. It's gonna be free for two months, maybe three months. I might be. Awesome. Be mistaking that. I think it's enough time to figure out, I mean. If you like it or not. If you really like it, yeah. Absolutely, yeah. And especially, I mean, it'll be free during Comicon. Yeah, and that's a big thing because a lot of people you know, there's so many people that go to [UNKNOWN] Con. But there's a lot of people that can't go. Right. Sure. And it's really hard to get into the panels you want to see even if you go. Even if you, Hall H seats 6,000 people. If you have never been at [UNKNOWN] 6000 people, that's like a small stadium, and people still don't get it. > Well its anything at this point, you have to pick and choose because you cant see everything. You have to stand in line you know 12 hours early. > Choose what panel you want to sit in, one panel a day, like that's pretty much what you're going to get into. Yeah its, its really really frustrating for a lot of people and What this channel is going to allow for is that you are going to kind of get a front seat to all that stuff. So there are gonna be like live streaming all the hall h panels. There'll be behind the scenes stuff. Finally. But it's gonna yeah it's gonna be like you can sit at home and watch. And be at comic con, and maybe not Be part of the 180,000 people that part of [UNKNOWN]. [CROSSTALK] Yeah. You don't have to smell ComiCon, you can just see ComiCon. You can see ComiCon. [CROSSTALK} You can see ComiCon without the smells. Sometimes fewer senses are better. Yeah. So do you know the name of your show yet? [LAUGH] We're working on names right now actually. Okay. Okay. I've got like eight of them out there but marketing is trying to figure out which one is the best. Alright well we'll [CROSSTALK]. You've got to lock down all of those social media accounts. Yeah. We'll know your name, we'll keep an eye out. Yes yeah yeah. Where can everybody follow you so when it gets announced they can then go follow the name of. On the show. Right now, on Twitter. You can follow me at my first name. [INAUDIBLE]. And then on my website is [INAUDIBLE] dot com. Keep breathing. Very cool. Thanks for being here. We appreciate it. Yeah. Thanks for having me, guys. Thank you. It's not my fault. Yeah. Make sure you guys check out Comic Con HQ, like she said, May 7th. Gonna be in beta, you're gonna get free, free trial. Yeah. Do it. Sounds good. And then you can decide if you wanna throw your money on it, like Jeff throws money at everything. God. What, I, I, it's not a good idea. Just throws money at everything. Free stuff's better. [LAUGH] We got more free show coming at you right after this, so stick around.
