A surprising high end gaming laptop from a company not particularly known for high end or gaming laptops.
I'm Dan Ackerman and this is the new HP Omen.
It's HP's probably most premium looking product I've seen in years really.
It's a super thin angled, very mod looking 15 inch gaming PC.
It's got these sort of very narrow tight edges here.
In fact all the ports are around that back of it, because the edges literally taper down to a point.
It's milled from a solid piece of aluminum, kind of like you'd get with a, Mac book.
Inside you're gonna find parts that are pretty similar to a lot of the other.
Slim, 15 inch gaming laptops that we've seen in 2014, a year where that really kinda became a trend.
So you've got a Core i7, you've got a solid state hard drive, different sizes.
And you've got Nvidia's GeForce 860M card, and that's a perfectly fine mainstream, midrange card.
You're gonna see that in a lot of smaller screen gaming systems.
It's not what super hardcore gaming types want, but we found it played most games at, you know, medium to high levels at the full 1080p resolution of the screen.
Fairly well.
It starts at 1,499.
And for that you get the Core i7.
And you get a 128 Gig SSD.
You can actually bump up to more RAM and a larger hard drive by adding a $100.
And another $100 on top of that.
If were to download a lot of games obviously you need a lot of storage space.
And those SSD drives are, are obviously usually a lot smaller than traditional platter hard drives.
Interestingly all the hot air comes out of a couple of vents in the back so hopefully it won't burn your hand if you're using a mouse next to it.
And this is one of the last systems to feature HPs Beats collaboration.
Obviously Apple owns Beats now.
So starting in 2015 there will be no more.
HP systems that has new Beats technology in it.
And here it powers the speakers and these cool pulsing lights here that can actually pulse along with any kind of audio you're playing through the system.
I'm Dan Ackerman, and that is the HP Omen.
