HP to bring back the TouchPad
-It's Wednesday August 31, 2011 and I'm Wilson Tang on CNET.com and it's time to get loaded.
HP is bringing back the TouchPad for a final production run after their $99 fire sale last weekend.
Buyers snapped up the remaining TouchPads after HP slashed the price on August 19th.
The company says that a limited supply of TouchPads will arrive in the coming weeks.
HP will continue to sell the TouchPad itself for 100 bucks,
but said that it will be up to other retailers on how they choose to price the device.
In related news, HP will updating the TouchPad's functionality and will continue to offer free apps for the tablet.
After a slight delay because of hurricane Irene, Samsung has introduced the American versions of its Galaxy S to smartphone last night here in New York.
The new phone is expected to arrive on AT&T, T-Mobile, and Sprint this fall and will run Android 2.3 Gingerbread.
The phone will feature a 1.2 gigahertz dual core
processor, rear facing 8-megapixel camera, 10% larger battery, 4G support, and a Super AMOLED plus touch screen.
Interestingly though, the AT&T model will have a 4.3-inch display whereas the T-Mobile and Sprint versions will have a 4.5-inch screen.
Also, on display last night was the Samsung Epic 4G Touch for Sprint.
The Phone is large and CNET editors were impressed by its picture quality.
In more phone news, Motorola has unveiled its latest android smartphone called the PRO Plus
Like its name sake implies, the phone is targeted for professional, runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread and also has a portrait style QWERTY keyboard.
The business friendly phone comes loaded with quick office for creating and reading documents.
Exact pricing hasn't been announced, but Motorola is starting the phone for Blackberry users looking to switch to Android.
Mozilla gave a preview of Firefox for android tablets in a blog post.
The new browser has a radically different design than previous incarnations of the Firefox browser for android.
Tablet will be hidden in portrait mode to maximize screen real state.
While on landscape mode, they will appear on the left-hand side in preview form.
The Awesome Bar and Firefox will also be getting the tab treatment while the browser itself will bring a minimalistic design to fit the honeycomb tablet version of android.
The popular magazine style reading app for the iPad called Zite has been sold to CNN for more than 20 million dollars.
The app and business will remain separate from CNN, but the company will likely be integrating the Zite technology into future products.
Zite is one in a long line of popular tablet readers like Flipboard, Pulse News reader, Livestand from Yahoo, and AOL's Editions app.
Google is helping American soldiers staying in touch with their family and loved ones at home.
Uniform military personnel with valid .MIL e-mail address will be able to place calls to the US right from GMail.
Soldier can simply add their valid .MIL email address [unk] address to their Google account and from GMail they can use the call phone link and the chat widget.
The service will be available for the rest of 2011 for free.
Finally, I like to make a correction to yesterday's episode of loaded.
iTunes Match will costs just $24.99 a year, not per month, sorry, [unk].
