How will fake news affect the UK election?
There's some new data about fake news surrounding the UK General Election.
A survey conducted by Broadband Genie found that 68% of those polled are either very or somewhat concerned that fake news could impact the General Election.
26% of those polled said they were not at all confident they could identify a fake news story if they saw one.
A study by the Oxford Internet Institute found that 11% of content shared around the election were classified as junk news.
In this case, junk news means misleading, deceptive, or incorrect information purporting to be real news about politics, economics, or culture.
The Oxford Internet Institute looked at data from Twitter and analyzed stories being spread by automated bots.
Hash tags about the labor party appeared most often with almost 62% of party specific tweets.
The conservative party grabbed about 72% The UK general election will take place on June 8. Originally, it was to take place on May 7, 2020.
However, the House of Commons agreed to an early election back in April of this year.
