>> Hey, I'm Donald Bell, Senior Editor for Digital Audio and MP3 and today we're taking a belated First Look at the Harman/Kardon Go Play iPod boombox. The Go Play came on early 2007 with a unique googly-eyed futuristic bowling bag design, incredible sound quality and a staggering $350 price tag. After almost two years on the shelf though, we're starting to see this closer to $200 and $250 on sale which is a fantastic price for the quality of audio that you're getting. The Go Play has a very spare and rugged design. There's no clock, there's no radio, there's no antennas. There's just three buttons for volume and power on the top of the system. They also have a unique iPod dock on the top here that lies flat. You've also got these covered ports in the back of the system for USB pass through, power, aux input and S-Video output. There's also a battery compartment on the bottom of the system. But the killer feature on the Go Play is the remote control, which aside from looking really cool, has an outstanding operating range of around 30 feet that can even transmit through walls. When you don't need the remote, there's a nice little secret compartment on the back here that lets you store it when you don't need it. Sound-wise the Go Play is outstanding with a full sound that's much beefier than the Bose sound box systems, but still we think it's the high-end detail that's sound snobs are looking for. It also gets really loud and doesn't break up that much at the higher levels. There is some bad news, however, Harman/Kardon plan on releasing an updated version of the Go Play. This is for the latest iPod and iPhones, but until they do, the original, your from 2007 won't fit or change devices like the iPhone or iPod Touch. You're also not going to be able to use the video output with any iPod models made after 2007. An update to the system might fix all these issues, but until then, the Go Play is best used with older iPods. I'm Donald Bell and that was a First Look at the Harman/Kardon Go Play iPod boombox.
