Essentially, this is the same Rock Band or Guitar Hero style game you've been playing for years, but they've cleaned out the interfaces, the menus. They've added animated versions of the Beatles instead of generic rock guys. The big game play difference is that you can do three part harmonies if you have three USB mikes. It's actually very challenging.

While the latest version of Guitar Hero, Guitar Hero 5, comes with, like, 85 songs, the Beatles Rock Band only has 45 songs. That's a lot less than you usually get. Their model is built around giving you a nice sampling of songs and then having you download full albums over Xbox Live or the PlayStation network later.

These music simulation games have done well for several years now, but people are starting to get kind of guitar game fatigued, so it really takes a mega act like the Beatles to get people energized about getting another set of plastic drums and another plastic guitar.

The Beatles Rock Band is probably one of the only games this holiday season that has a real chance of breaking through the mainstream of bringing in non-gamers who would normally never play a video game.
