H1Z1 devs letting banned cheaters back in, but there's a catch (Tomorrow Daily 183)

Culture
On today's show a robot that learns from its mistakes. Cockroach robots that can run faster than we can. And cheaters at video games begging for forgiveness. Nothing tastes better. Delicious. Tomorrow Daily. [MUSIC] Greetings citizens of the internet, welcome to Tomorrow Daily, the best geek talk show in the known universe. We are back, I'm Ashley Esqueda. Where were we? We were on another temporal plane. Oh. Joining me as always, Khail Anonymous. I didn't feel nothing. If you're in the U.S. we hope you enjoyed you holiday, we did. Was it relaxing? Yeah, we enjoyed your holiday. We enjoyed your holiday for you if you didn't. I played [UNKNOWN] all weekend. That's what I did. And it was awesome. Cool. Yeah. It was amazing. So it's a Playstation plus game, if you have PS4 it's a free game. Oh, it's free. So trust me guys, if you like platforming or Luchadors, go get that game. Who doesn't love Luchadors? But yeah, good times, good times. Good weekend. It's really good. Yeah, but back ready for some action. Yes. Are you? Let's hit those headlines. Okay. [MUSIC] Sometimes I worry that you've run out of batteries. You stop midsentence and then I'm like, oh no, I have to wind up Kale. You're so So use to like, a format of a show that I'm just like, I'm like, not about that. I know. I'm like unravel it. We're the internet, we're the open form show with a lot of wiggle room. There's not edits. What See that was awkward. That was super awkward. Couldn't edit that out. [LAUGH] So let's get started. This one is a lot of fun. This one is sure to tap into everyone's, the gamer inside of them. Because we've all experienced. A gamer that has been cheating online, whether it be wall hacks or aim bots, or like some sort of money exploit, or just something like that. Well, H1N1 is a zombie game that's in, like a, what is it, like, open beta? Yeah. And you can like pay to get early access. Well they've actually been banning people. The banned 30,000 accounts of people that have been cheating in the game. Okay, that's not what the story is. So many cheaters. That's not what the story is. Story is that they decided that they'll allow those cheaters back into the game if they make a video pleading as to why they should be let back into the game. Aw. This is a decision by the president of the games development company, John. Medley, but decided to take Banning's as an opportunity to raise awareness about cheating. He is like cheaters, I want your face on the screen, saying you made a mistake and so there's been videos that people have made because they put a lot of hours into this and it banks up and you don't want to lose all of that work So I mean they could just make another account, but they don't want to, so if you check out his Twitter account, he's retweeted a few people that have made videos. They're really pathetic. Oh, they're really pathetic? These people are so lame cuz look they try to confuse themselves. They're like well look a lot of people were doing the exploit and I just didn't want to be left out and everything, and they're like over two minutes long of them, and it sounds like they Ran over your dog and they're- They sound really sad. But anyway, only five people have been allowed back into the game. Only five. And I think he's cutting it off there. John is a feisty little dude, the guy that runs the company. He is! He is very serious about, well I like this though. This is a good- Let me give you a little bit more information about the cheat real quick. So the cheat that they were using is called ESP. So this is basically If you don't know H1N1, it's a big open world game. Yeah, survival. It's a whole lot of if you get killed in this game- That's it. You lose it. Everything. So there is a lot of reason to cheat. So there is a lot of reason to make sure you are okay. You stay alive. Yeah. So they have been using the exploit or the hack- The hack. Called ESP, which lets people know where you are on the map. And lets you see through walls. Basically a big hack. That's a huge advantage [CROSSTALK] It makes you vulnerable but it is a hack. That's a super power in a game like H1Z1. So there you go. That's what we're looking at here. So the question is, how excited are you, how cool is this? Is this a cool thing? Well then, I really like this. I mean of course I would like it better if he would have been like, give your apology video then maybe we'll let you back in, and then a month later after let's say half, 15,000 people make these videos, he's like I'm just kidding, none of you are getting back in. [LAUGH] Oh man. That would have been even worse. But I'm probably meaner than John Smedley which is why I don't run a game company. That's why I host a show. But I like that he's doing this because it gets these people to sort of Just apologize. Like it's so hard for people to admit that they were wrong and they did something dumb. And to just say listen I messed up. Like I shouldn't have done this, I would like my account back. This is the exploit that I used. And I like that he's using this as an opportunity to raise awareness about cheating in that game. Because it is really prevalent, like I know I have a few friends who play the early access. And they hate cheaters, they're just like it's a nightmare having to deal with this. And I think this argument, it's like crazy, you know, non-sensical argument of, oh, everyone else is doing it. Like, so. Okay, okay. I'm gonna go ahead and play slight devil's advocate. Okay. I hate cheaters as well. I actually used to play, what was that enemy territory? On a aim bot server on purpose. It was fun. It was a lot of fun, but Now, that makes sense. If you've ever played any of these games where it just was snowballing, more and more and more people cheating to play, where it was almost not a fun game for you anymore Right you, in your mind, are like, "I've got to balance this out. I'm not going to be invincible," which that one guy was like. I didn't turn that on, because I didn't feel like that was fair. So And that's just devil's advocate. I totally don't agree with cheating. Right. You're taking the fun away from the people that are playing the game fair. Right. So, it's great. I think this is a great way to stir up the community and expose these people. And it's really great. But [INAUDIBLE] Question of the day. Yes, our hashtag of the day. Our hashtag of the day. TDCHEATS. TDCHEATS, we would like to know from you what should gamers, if they're cheating, have to do to make up for cheating? So you catch someone cheating, and they want to be allowed back in the game, What should they have to do to make up for that cheating to be allowed back in like 500 push ups or should they like have to go to Three holy rosaries Should they have to go to town hall and go up there and sing i'm a little teapot like what should they have to do should they have to go And like, you know, tell their parents they don't love them? I mean, what should they have to do? So with the parents thing, this is what I was thinking. You're going straight to parents, that's a good one. I'm going straight to parents. You should have to go to your parent, and record yourself. You know how Jimmy Kimmel does the I told my kids they ate all their Halloween candy thing? Good. Okay, so you should have to go, so if you're a cheater and your account gets banned and you want back in, you should have to go to the parent who's the disciplinarian in your life, whether that's your mom or your dad or your grandpa, whoever it is, the person who's the disciplinarian in your life, the person who would be most disappointed in you for cheating And you should have to tell them on camera what you did and why you did it. And you should ask them to forgive you, and if they forgive you, then maybe you get a chance at coming back into the game. I think my parents would just be like, well actually a mom's a gamer, my dad would just be like, I don't care. Right, the person that you would [CROSSTALK] understand that you cheat, it's not about gaming, but just saying like I cheated. And I'm really sorry, and I apologize, and I'll never do it again, and this is why I did it. And then you say, but I need your forgiveness and would you be willing to forgive me for doing something like that? And then you see what they say. I think they should have to shout, I think they should have to publicly share their browser history for the last few days. Oh, that's good. So that's low. It exposes you a little bit. Yeah! Because you screwed up a lot of people's time. I like that. So you have to expose your time a little bit. And it's kind of both the digital medium kind of punishment anyway. That is sneaky. Hail anonymous, I like it. So there you go. Take that cheaters. And clear your browser history before you start cheating. I feel like I want to make one of those And one apology video. Just to make one? I haven't actually put in any time in it. To get your account back? [LAUGH] Hey guys, like. They all have like sweet headsets, like, their lives are okay, well one had earbuds. No, they're doing all right. Anyway, okay so Go ahead. Alright. So let's talk about velociroaches. No. I don't want to. Khail doesn't like spiders as much as I don't like cockroaches. I hate cockroaches. Yeah. They're gonna survive the apocalypse. They will. And these robots that are like cockroaches might also survive the apocalypse. This is kind of crazy. So these are two robots that look similar But act differently and they have similar names so theres the VelociRoach and then there's that one. Which that was at real time, that's real time playback. That's slowed down 5 times. This is the 2x VelociRoach. And the 2x VelociRoach can run at 11 miles per hour. That is 17.6 kilometers per hour for those of you who don't [INAUDIBLE] The metric system, which is pretty much everywhere else in the world. Yeah, so they slow it down, so that you can get a good look at it. Both of these robots are from UC Berkeley and it's really interesting because they talk about, they said we scaled up the, basically the motion of the legs To speed him up and the only thing that kept him from not going any faster than 11 miles per hour is the legs start, the structure of the little robot stated flying off. Like legs started flying, like pieces of the robot started falling off of it because it was going too fast. 2 Fast 2 Furious. And, so this little cockroach bot they're saying now they wanna work on stronger structural integrity so that they can just see how far exactly they can kill this thing up and how fast they can make it go, mildly creepy. And then there is the VelociRoACh, the regular VelociRoACh which is this one, and it's acting as kind of like an aircraft carrier for this other robot that's about to take off. [LAUGH] I love this video so much. So this one is launching a micro aerial vehicle, looks like a little bird. Why, why, why? Well, I think parts of this are scalability. Over time, if you can imagine this on a much larger scale. Like that's something that's really cool. What do you mean, like larger roaches? No. A bunch of these things? A boat or an actual plane. Okay, yeah. Skill ability always one thing to consider. They didn't really specifically mention a goal. They were like we're gonna make it do this in the future. There wasn't like that but there a lot of, we've seen a lot of robots that have sort of insect like capabilities. I think a big part of these are just sort of like how can we push these little robots to their limits and how can we apply that knowledge to other robotics. that we are working on. So, I think this is really, I think this is so cool and really just to watch that little cockroach robot fly and I'm really interested in seeing how they scale it up, considering if they go too fast, it all falls apart. Yeah, yeah yeah, I think that was really weird. I can imagine, like a Utopian slash dystopian world where the cops like, use it. They're like, we've got a, we've got this guy running from us. And they just send a hoard of these little cockroaches and the guy's like no, and he gets like, overtaken by them. And then it's just like, and then they, it's like the locusts in the Mummy. It's like and then all of a sudden they all go by and it's just like a little pile of Skeleton, and they're just like well, that's it. And all he did was steal it like a kid. He borrowed something. Yeah, no, that's serious, that's robot justice, you don't want that kind. Yeah, cockroach robot justice, not good. No. Cockroach Cop, coming this fall on CBS. [LAUGH] No, I do think it's really cool. It is like Poochinski. So, there's another thing from UC Berkley that's our third story and this is actually from the robotics people over at it. This is a team working on this robot called Brett over at UC Berkley. Real name. That's bad. Yeah, so usually you teach a robot to do something by programming a very specific line of code in it. So you say this is how you do Give it all of its instructions and it does it. This team at UC Berkeley is showing off Bratt wich learns via trial and error. You can see he is trying things out and he's like maybe this is right and this is right. Kind of a big step in the field of AI, a big step forward because this robot was given a series of algorithms to learn a series of tasks, like a couple things Putting together this toy plane that we're looking at right now, and then also screwing on a water bottle cap, but without knowledge of its surroundings. So they would put pieces on the table in front of him and he would autonomously figure out exactly how to kind of put these things together. So there were two different ways of doing this. The team gave Brett information about what the objects surrounding him looked like And where they were, and when they did that he was able to complete these tasks in about ten minutes. So, pretty quickly, but if they didn't, if they said you the robot needs to figure out what the objects are around you and locate them, so also figure out where they are, the process took about three hours. From what I had seen they had done this test a bunch of times. But you have for testing purposes it look like they had kind of like reset it every time to sort of say like we want to make sure that we're seeing what we think we're seeing. So But pretty interesting stuff. Yeah. And I would be really curious to see how this robot Brett develops with better processing power which is the thing they were saying is really holding them back from faster times of him like, figuring out exactly what's in front of him, where it's located and like putting it all together. Mm hm. Pretty cool Cool, yeah, right on. Just saying, pretty awesome. Also again, another thing to add to the checklist, this has been a scary year in advancements of robotics. Very true, very true, there's a lot of crazy good robotics stuff going on right now. Yup. Which is amazing. They're learning. Which is cool. But scary. Yeah, next year, we'll learn our lesson. All right guys, we're going to take a quick break. We will be back with new releases because it's Tuesday! But first we go, of course, we have to show you guys Mario Kart Fury Roads. So check this out, we'll be right back. [MUSIC] Welcome back to the show. We've returned. It's a Tuesday which means it's time for us to tell you all of the things that will be draining our wallet this week. It is time for new releases. [MUSIC] Now, I have to preface all this with Khail's getting a brand new, fancy, fancy mcpants, Gaming rig this week. It just shipped. It just. I just got the email just at twenty minutes ago. Okay, it just shipped. So it's on it's way. So, yeah. Winging it's way here, hopefully via drone. And, which means. Kale will be completely off the grid. Oh no, I'll be on the grid. He'll be inside his computer. But like, the Matrix Grid. Okay, so why, what have you got for me? For any of you out there who is not Kale, and will not be obsessing over their new amazing PC this week, Splatoon is coming out for Wii U this Friday, which I know a lot of people are excited about Those of us who have will use and love them. I am really excited about it, because it's a really fun game. I have been playing the global test fires, I didn't play the one this last weekend, but I played the two before that and it was a blast and I like it and it's a fun game and I've got my Amoebas, preordered They're coming in sometime this week. I should be getting them. There's been a lot of people that have converted towards being really excited this. It's a brand new IP and it may not look like it's appealing to everybody. But apparently the gameplay is incredibly solid. It is It's very unique. But it's very addicting and very competitive and there's so many different, unique modes and characters. I forgot Boogie Ford, whatever his name is, played this and loved it. A lot of live streamers and stuff like that have been like, oh my god this is gonna be the next thing that I'm gonna play. I like that the matches are all three minutes each. That, basically, when you go online and you play these online matches it doesn't matter how big the map is or how Small it is. It's three minutes. There's no capture the flag. Matches are always over in three minutes. So there's always a chance to come back. Okay. There's always a chance to come back. You can always rally if there's nothing. It always feels like you have enough time. Even if you start off a little slow, there's time to come back. Producer Logan's excited about this, right? Absolutely. Yeah. Logan and I are gonna be playing [UNKNOWN] this weekend. I am not going to. No. Be playing that this weekend. You're going to be playing a lot. I'd love to. [CROSSTALK] I've heard that everybody is gonna be playing this. It's really fun. But it'll just be me on Twitch. And you guys can play that. Yeah. Yeah. Everyone will be. Anyone who wants alternate programming. Tune in to Kale's channel. Probably be playing The Witcher or Grand Theft Auto. The Witcher, I love that. And then also in theatres this week The Rock returns to the Silver Screen with San Andreas. Yeah. Which is a movie I can't see because it freaks me out too much because I live. You're scared of The Rock. Next to San Andreas and I'm also terrified of The Rock. Right. Will somehow be involved in my untimely demise. Can I do an Ashley joke? Please. This movie is probably gonna rock. [LAUGH] Get out. File it. It's your joke. File it. And also, I love it. But- [LAUGH] Yeah, I- How are you feeling about this? I love Disaster movie visuals. But I don't really like disaster movies except for if there's an alien invasion of some sort. Yeah. Producer Logan you like movies with wide spread destruction too, right? Love disaster movies Love disaster movies, so I think There's a lot of, I would call it disaster porn, there's a lot of that in this movie. Yeah, oh, no. And, but for me, I hate the, like this is obviously the greatest fear of my life, being a lifelong southern Californian, is the big one. Like that's the thing everyone is always like it's always a little ming in the back of our minds, like we don't necessarily, I don't change my life or go about my days any differently because I'm scared of a giant earthquake, but It's a thing that is a real fear. I think bigger on these movies if they were like Game of Thrones and you didn't know who was gonna die, but you always know the main character is gonna make it. The Rock's gonna make it guys. Out of the San Andreas Fault and stuff like that. That's why these are just like kind of CG porn. Yeah, yeah it is. That's why it has go to be an alien invasion for me, because you never know. You just never know, that's true. Did you see that video by the way where he, the rock, I don't know if you guys have seen- The wedding thing? Yeah, he married, he was the official of this guy, this journalist Wedding, it was a surprise for the journalist, but they set up this whole secret thing where they officiated, it was crazy. Check it out, it's on Screen Junkies. Just look up San Andreas, The Rock, marriage on Screen Junkies, it's great. Surprise weddings. It's good. It's so touching. These guys have had this on running history. It's great. Just go watch it. This great bromance. This junk-it bromance that they've had over the years. And then finally like- And as a producer, how hard would that have been to set up. That whole video. So scary, but so good. You guys should definitely watch that. And then lastly, oh yeah, there it is. [CROSSTALK] How many views does it have? They're like two million views. And I'm so happy for this guy, and his new wife. She's so pretty, and looks so excited to be marrying him. And he looks the same. I just love a good wedding where everyone's so happy and thrilled. I love that he was like, can I have a comb please? They are like, are you ready? And he's like can I have a comb. So yeah, it was great. Really great I highly recommend it. It will make you feel good, it will make you feel real good. I mean plus what a nice guy. The Rock? For the Rock to do that. Yeah, he even put his name in the vows like a bunch. Yeah, he quoted San Andreas too for what it's worth. It was funny though. And then lastly, out right now, if you have an Android phone and you've been waiting to get your livestream on, Periscope is out for Android. Finally, geez. Finally, it only took a couple months. But I know a lot of people who have Android phones are really excited. Probably super wonky, right? No, I've heard it's not bad. I've heard it's pretty good. Oh yeah? And it, yeah, so, and everybody, like on Twitter this morning a whole bunch of people are talking about it. And they were, you know, making jokes about, here's how to periscope on Android and like all this stuff. So, if you are having. Have any interest in this. Parascope is pretty fun, and I like it. I actually just like it for watching other people's live streams. I don't necessarily use it all the time, but I love watching other people's live streams of interesting things. My live is fairly boring. Get out of here Luke Westaway! Yeah, Luke. London. Has Parascope really caught on? Cuz I feel like it was big, then I never hear And then people. It's huge. And then people Periscope for like a minute. I never tag somebody. Well, I think, you can't really go for a half-hour. I mean, you can't. It's hard. It's hard to. Then, why are you periscoping? People don't realize how hard it is to do something live for an hour. I do. Well, we do everyday for a living for a half hour but it's like tough to keep talking. It's like livestreaming so when you're livestreaming and you do Live streaming the first time, you're like oh my Gosh, I didn't realize how hard it would be to play a game and talk about it to people and check comments all at the same time and so I think live streaming is kind of like that. There's a little bit of a learning curve there, but once you get it, it's really, really fun, if you have something interesting you want to show people So I don't know. Try it out. I think it's cool. I like it. Yeah. I want to try, I haven't tried it yet. You've got, people would love your Periscope. Like, you seem like the guy to Periscope. It makes me feel like I'd be so self involved. Just being like ha-ha, look at my life, guys. Watch me. Hey here's my life. Let's talk. I have to just [CROSSTALK] Find the right thing. Yeah, well the problem is the right thing is hey look I'm at a convention. Too bad you don't get Internet service there. No Internet service. I tried a Star Wars celebration and the Internet was just like no. I may do a Disney Land on. Sunday Happy birthday! You should totally do that. Can I periscope, like- 50th anniversary [INAUDIBLE] The whole World of Color show, or is that, like, illegal? No I don't think so, cuz I'm sure people have their phones they record World of Color. You and me, we're going to Disneyland together. Excellent, so keep an eye out- Follow me on Twitter! Follow him on Twitter. Maybe you'll find him on periscope Super easy, but that's it for new releases which means it's time to get to you're user feedback. [MUSIC] Last week we asked everybody to use the hashtag TTMessage to talk about what message they'd want to send up into space for the new horizon Yeah. What message we'd give to any intelligent live out there. Who discovered new horizons.>> And people for some reason were mad about that opportunity?>> People did not like this. People, some people wrote to me and were just like We should not send anything, out. Dustin wrote in and said, Nothing to see here, move along, move along. Hashtag, protects planet. Yeah, okay. So, he's scared the aliens will kill us. Hold on, I'm pulling up YouTube ones. Okay. I'm just going to read them real quick. Okay. No go ahead>> Okay, Mungenga Norman wrote and said 'I would send a video of how Earthlings live together through we from different continents and races'. TDmessage. Which i thought was a very nice sentiment and well done on that. Niel wrote in and said 'I'd send a keep away message, not because I'm xenophobic, but because there are Still too many idiots here sadly. But here's the thing. Neil what if this intelligent life is intelligent? What if they're not idiots? What if they are idiots? I think that's great fear. If aliens show up and they're dumber than we are, I'd be real concerned. What if we're the only beings in the Universe that understand That violence is even a thing that you should do. I know. Like, so like one of the top comments, which has three up-votes on YouTube is, this is stupid! Can't people just stop for a second and use your brain? Send a massage to aliens is like yelling where you are when you're hiding from serial killers, for god's sake! So he is assuming that like, aliens are sitting their with sniper rifles on their Just waiting! Smoking cigarettes and putting them out in themselves just going, Yeah someday I'm gonna kill some humans. As soon as I hear one. As soon as I hear that message I'm gonna go, I'm gonna take em out! But the correct answer was, LOL If I sent the message off it would be A, LMAO which is a meme. So, good job Grootus Bongo. We also got an email from James who said I think that the message could include a sample of the arts and culture throughout Earth's history. Artists such as Monet, Picasso, Van Gogh. Composers like Mozart, Bach, and Beethoven. There are many artists in the last several decades that could be placed alongside these greats. It would help convey the message of our passionate human side while also showing our creative and intelligent side. To help ensure that these works of art endure in some form, we could use Google's mind boggling capacity to archive data. We could have Google setup a cultural database that could be accessed from beyond our stars. What the That was a really good answer. And by the way Logan, this is A LMAO. It's the little alien from. It's the little alien from Independence Day. Yeah, this is a meme. Hey. LMAO. But that's a great idea. So he wants a never ending story. Cultural database, that we can continually update with things. I would love it if we had a cultural database. That maybe five major tech companies in the world, at any given time, they can change, they don't have to be the same one, would hold that information so we'd have copies of it. Basically, every year we would have a global suggestion box. People could write in to some website and say this is what should be included this year, or maybe they'd give us a short list of things and we'd pick what we'd put in the time capsule. I don't know, could be cool. But anyway, you guys had really good answers for that. Yeah. And then, of course, we have our very last piece of user feedback, which is always our phonetographer of the day. Serial killer, aliens, again stay away from my planet. Get off our lawn and our water, get away. Nick wrote into us and had a great Memorial Day picture, he took the picture from yesterday, celebrating Memorial Day. It's amazing. He said, over the weekend one of my friends hosted a party in the south l neighborhood in Chicago for Memorial Day It was a total blast and the weather was gorgeous. A week ago, our highs were in the 40s and 50s, so the 70s we got this weekend were almost as nice as sunny California. Anyway, I took these pics with my iPhone 6 and thought I would share. So, this is a panoramic shot from my friend's balcony. Far left, just under the sun. Are the lights of the United Center where the Blackhawks play. Center or Willis, Sears, the Sears building. Another iconic building seen from the south. Far right is museum canvas. Field Museum, the Shedd Aquarium, The Outer planetarium, Adler planetarium, Soldier Field and other fun stuff. Next to Lake Michigan. So, that's an amazing panorama of Chicago. Yeah, it's pretty cool. If you don't know what's in Chicago, there's a bunch of stuff just from this view, so that's pretty cool. Yeah. That's a who's who of this panorama. I really dig it. You should toss this up on one of the, I don't know if you guys know but there's billboards all around Los Angeles of, like, cool panoramic views and then it says, shot with the iPhone 6 Super kind of like. Admit to that. Super kind of like. Hoity toity. But that was perfect. That would have been up on a billboard. That would have totally been a billboard shot. I just, I loved it. He also sent in another picture. He described it, but I picked that one particularly. But he was saying, there's another picture that has the Blue Cross Blue Shield building lit up to spell honor the fallen in memory of all those who laid down their lives for the country. And he said even the Sears tower or Willis tower now, changed the colors of it's antenna for the occasion. So he was like I love this city, I hope you enjoy it, so thank you very much. If you want to send in your phonetogrophy, or if you want to talk to us about the show, send in your hashtag today, whatever.
