Google unwraps two Nexus phones, two Chromecasts

Tech Industry
Two Nexuses, two Chromecasts, too much Google news. I'm Bridget Carey. This is your CNET Update. [MUSIC] Google unwrapped several new gadgets Tuesday, including two new Nexus smartphones, two types of Chromecast, and a new hybrid Android tablet with a keyboard! There's lots to go over, so let's jump in with the phones. The prime vessels for Android Marshmallow come in two sizes The Nexus 6P is the larger of the two, with a 5.7-inch screen. It's made by Huawei and it's the first all metal body Nexus phone. It starts at $500. And if you want something a little smaller, LG made the Nexus 5X. With a 5.2 inch screen. It starts at $380. Google is taking preorders for both now online at the Google store and they ship later in October. Both phones have a 12.3 megapixel camera on the back that takes 4K video. These phones have software that takes slow motion video and Take a burst of photos to stitch into an animated GIF. Both are charged with the new USB type C port, which works no matter which way you plug it in. And it offers faster charging. In fact, it tells you how much time is left for a full charge. Both also have new finger print sensors on the back called Nexus imprint and you use them for payments and security. These phones come unlocked to work on multiple carriers. But if you want to use Google's new wireless network Project Fi, it'll work with that as well. For the first time, Google is selling an insurance plan for phones. It's called Nexus Protect. It gives you two years protection from mechanical breakdown and accidental damage. And if it's stolen, you can get a replacement. It's $70 for the Nexus 5X and $90 to protect the Nexus 6P. Now on to the Chromecasts, there's one for your TV and one just for your speakers. As for the TV streamer, it still have the low price tag of $35, but now You get a new disc design in three colors with a cord that hangs it behind your TV. It has stronger wifi connection and it can handle more data with less video buffering. The Chrome Cast app also gets a boost with better search and discovery of things to watch. You can also stream some Android games to the tv and it supports multiplayer as long as everyone has a phone. The Chrome Cast for TV can also stream your photos from apps like Flickr, Facebook and The Google Photos app. So speaking of Google Photos, it also is getting several upgrades, including a way to share albums with multiple people. So mom and dad can add photos to one link, and grandma gets alerts when new photos are added. You will also be able to do more complex searches, like search with the phrase "Maggie Hiking" and it'll show you all photos of your friend Maggie's face with a background that looks like she's hiking. The Procast audio is for streaming music from your phone to any speaker system in your home, it's also $35. Google also made an Android tablet with a removable keyboard, this is called the Pixel C, the C stands for convertible. And it all snaps together magnetically. Getting both the ten inch tablet and the keyboard costs $650 in total. That's coming out later this year. That's it for this tech news update, but you can dive into more details at cnet.com.
