Christopher Watters Hey Robert Handlery. We are playing Wolfenstein: The Old Blood Old Blood. New Game, new deal. See, stand alone, 20 bones, Playing it on XBox 1, it's out on PC and PS4 today. And we're shooting some Nazis. We are indeed starting now. Chris. yeah How much have you played so far? I'm like halfway, I'm near the end of chapter 2, I would say is a good estimate for where I am in this game. Okay. And, already the Nazis have beset me. Oh gosh, okay, lets just. Speaker 1: Let's just cool it for a second in here. This is a good place to hang out. Speaker 2: Yea it is. Speaker 1: I've got to get my dual wheels out. Oh my god. We're in Castle Wolfenstein, it's 1946. The war is not going well, but I did get this sick new pistol...that shoots explosives. Speaker 2: That's fantastic. Speaker 1: New one, not new So is this a official prequel? Yeah, prequel. Okay. Prequel for requels. So I know in the first one he comes in on a plane. Spoiler alert, alert. Yeah, no, this is, this is like a special mish. Okay. A special mission that, he's on to get some, oh God, what is Why did it stop shooting? Good there. He's trying to steal some stuff from inside Castle Wolfenstein. Okay. I need some more armor or health. Is it in a box? Yes. Give me this let me eat this cat food. So you're stealing some plans. You're going in solo or maybe you had some dudes start off with? So this is the first whole first bit was actually a stealth sequence. Okay. Of like Infiltrating and then I got caught, but now I'm like, eh, breaking out. I've gotta find the buddy who I was hanging out with. All of the sudden. And, so I found him, but he's been extracted to, Oh God, no thanks, boom. Everyone exploded. Right. What are you doing in here! This is my [UNKNOWN] helmet. [LAUGH] [CROSSTALK] Was that move I just saw, that melee, was that a, was that your, your pipe? That was a quick little knife melee. But now that you mention it, I do have a pipe. Right. Oh god! [LAUGH] This is bad. This is not a good time for you, me to show you my pipe, bro. I've gotta say, I'm sorry. My bad. Oh crap, crap, crap, crap, crap. Okay, regenerate health, regenerate health. There's health right around here. Oh! Okay, yeah cool. So this is like, the, this is close to when it starts like opening up and being more of the shooter action type situation that we all know and love from The New Order. Oh God Over here. Oh no, I have my pipe in my alternate. I wanted my exploding gun. So yeah, you got, you've got the pipe. I saw you had a little grenade-launcher pistol. Yeah, that, that's like the new gun I've encountered thus far. The pipe has been, helpful in terms of, the stealth situation. It's like a stealth, they got around behind me. [INAUDIBLE] You can stab people with it You can also clobber people with it, you can break it apart and put it back together. You can use it to climb walls and like pry open doors to get into different areas. That seems pretty versatile. It's very useful, it's a helpful pipe. It's gonna have to preserve my health and armor a little bit better than that. It's just like a souped-up ST, excuse me, STG44, right? Was this from, was this from the new order? I forget. So here's the thing. Here's the thing, man. Like, the new order technically is after this game. Right. So this is. Oh what's up dummy. [LAUGH] This is technically like an earlier version of the gun that oh God they are [CROSSTALK] That you get a taste of, right ?>> Before you pass out and go unconscious in a coma. It's in the sixties. Oh Yeah that's the stuff. Exactly so yeah this, these are more akin to the, oh God this is not good. I cannot use my gun. I'm dying in the lake. This is, akin to the weapons you get in the pre, yeah, in that sort of first level of the new order. Mm-hm. And also, you see that it's a prequel in a couple different ways. It's, you know, there's, the, the pons, or, the compoond, like, the doggies that they made all messed up cuz they're terrible. Right. Eat it. [LAUGH] Nice. Why don't I just use this thing all the time. What am I thinking? [LAUGH] Oh my God. Oh, there's a couple of you back there, isn't there? I saw some blood spray maybe. Alright, that guy's down there. I love it. They aren't like, they aren't the full robot dog that you're used to shooting in The New Order, the are, like, you can see they have fuzzy ears. And it makes you feel a little bit worse about killing them, but not that much worse. Not that much worse. Cause they're still narley. Gonna put on some extra hats. Um-hm. So that situation, this area seems clear. Let's, let's move forward. Basically, I infiltrated here with my buddy Wes Um-hm Trying to steal some In trying to get into the, like this is where we're tapping into the sort of paranormal stuff that prev, that other Wolfenstein games have, have. Check out those little [INAUDIBLE] Yeah like in, in the Wolfenstein 2009 there was like straight up magic powers that you could wield. I don't know if that's gonna happen But, this is definitely like, the sort of stuff that I'm finding around. It's like the notes and what have you are definitely along the lines of the occult that, you know, the Nazi's were into. Right. That we've seen in multiple different forms of Nazis. Representation including Indiana Jones. So is this like the same kind of cult that was in Woo! New Order which basically the Nazis tapped into, which led them to create all the super technology and Yeah, the super technology stuff is already starting to happen like the, you know those, their super soldier dudes with the giant midi guns. And the horrible skin problems. Yep Those guys are in this but, ow man. They're in like an earlier phase- Yeah they're like tethered, they're basically like buses that run on electric wires overhead, like, they're tethered. And who is, who is still around. And so you have to, like, shut down the generator that's powering them, and then. Oh, there you are. [NOISE] And then, once you've done that you can [LAUGH] take 'em out with your pipe. I've gotten that wave of dudes knocked out of the box here. This is the part that I don't, isn't really my favorite part of the New Order is like once all these guys are dead and you need to replenish armor, you just kinda walk around looking at the ground and tapping x. Yeah. But it doesn't take that long, as you can see, I'm pretty much already maxed out with all my stuff. Let me just Get real coozed up on health here and let's gooooooo to the next part. Which is I think. Hopefully, it's riding in this sweet boat right here. cool Can I? Can I go in the boat? Looks like you're doing it. I've unlocked a challenge. Prison Docks. So yeah the challenge, Oh no, put it in the thing. Yeah oh crap oh god oh god here we go. Yeah get shredded. so that there's challenges which are like I guess I haven't actually done one of them. Yeah we've got a little proto flying drones action. You Just get to like, take on a certain area and there's like, sort of camping, there's scoring. Um-hm. So it, you know, I guess it's probably judges on speed and maybe head shot accuracy Ooh. And maybe, you know, triple kills and stuff like that. Stuff that it doesn't really surface. As part of the normal play but it would probably have to if was in a scoring section maybe we'll check on some of that a little later. Eat it! Daddy drones boss Overall, would you say.." oh his leg went away he has no leg parts anymore Would you say there is a difference in gameplay if you can remember New Order? Nah. Like I remember hearing someone talk about how the guns felt a little more, like they had a little more recoil or a little bit clunkier. I mean obviously it is taking place prior to the 60s right which is Yeah, I think maybe if I put them, maybe if I played them like back to back and had like The slick new assault rifle you get in New Order versus the dual wielding ones I've got going on right here. I might be able to notice a difference, but, you know, it's been like almost a year since I've played the New Order, so, yeah, so it's not like, it, the, the difference is not as So drastic. Mm-hm. I think there is like a, a rifle that you get in a little bit that's a little longer range. So that might create some different sort of game play moments and more sniping situations. I'm taking this gun with me even though I'll probably have to unload it. As soon as I like climb a ladder or whatever. Alright, yeah, definitely going to hit that switch. Oh, we're going to get a [UNKNOWN]? [UNKNOWN] A pipe. So is that like the first weapon you start out with is a pipe? It's one you have throughout the whole self [UNKNOWN] session, yeah. Okay. Once you get thrown in the clink. Oh. Hello, Mr. Rat. I've seen that rat before. [CROSSTALK] Oh yeah, is he a little foreshadowing? Yeah. Little rat friend maybe. Chapter two! So I do approach in the very first scene. This is like, I'm penetrating further into the castle towards the keep, I guess? Yeah I'm gonna bring, I'm gonna bring these with me. Coming away. If I can get an angle on this cochaco up here. So I remember seeing, like on the trailers and, one of my favorite games, actually of all times, is Return to Castle Wolfenstein. Sure. And I remember, you know, you, you're in the castle and then there's a tram you take To like, exit the castle is you know, it's awfully snowy or something like that. But the shot that I saw looks almost exactly like it. Oh yeah, like, right at the beginning. Yeah. That one like set in the mountainside. Exactly. Yeah, no. They're definitely trying to make, trying to connect it to, I mean, they're you know, can straight up connecting, connecting it to Wolfenstein Pass So. Mm. There may even be some easter eggs that you recognize here. I didn't play too much Castle Wolfenstein. Mm. Oh god, who's gonna come out of there? Hopefully not some jerks. So I might not spot those as readily as you, but, there's also other easter eggs people have been tweeting about. The Nuka Cola in the vending machine. Oh shut up. From Fallout, and then there's Steinoverse as the hands call it. I made that up sorry. It's fine I like it. Cool Yeah so like I dunno probably not going to make it inside there I just opened up that other area. I sense a boss fight going on here You feel it? You feel a little boss thing going on? I mean, there's like you know, Wolfenstein, they did the sort of arena battle situations, right of, Mm-hm You know, creating a big open space. I'm gonna take this map. Yeah. Nice. There's, there's a exclamation point that tells me what's hot. I'd go there, if I were you. You got it, buddy! I, I am getting on a different boat that leads me to a different place. But then why did I open that door? Curiosity, Rob. Mm-hm. If I was able to throw that switch and open that door, then doesn't it follow that there's something back there that I should check out? Hopefully there's not robot lake dolphins. Or whatever. [LAUGH] Prowls. Lasers. [LAUGH] Dolphins that shoot lasers. I wouldn't put it past them. They're very creative. The have to be blue though. Blue Lasers. Blue? Oh, okay. I feel like that's what I've been seeing. You know what? I always feel like Nazis would go for red Oh, all right, so this is the thing with the pipe is where's my pipe at? Oh, bust it down. Bam! Get me through here. Damn, thank God you got that pipe! Now I'm over here and going into this side of the area. Oh, here's another thing you can do with the pipe Wait, should I go in here? Or is the other area a secret? Unclear. Gonna go in here anyways. Yeah. So the pipe's kinda replacing your laser gun from New Order, right? Yeah, cause that thing, you know, is like, like, oh hey, hello, what's up, all you dudes? That's why my by blue. There all like kinda bluey Yeah, yeah, you've got that Electrified. That's a good point. Good point. You know. I'm just gonna hang out here for Mm, decisions, right? I just want them to come back because I didn't shoot them quick enough in their domes. Are they gonna come back? Yeah they probably will. I really like this leaning mechanic, even though Yeah This guy. I mean this guy right here. Gonna take one. So I just saw you unlocked, what some, Like character art was it? Sure. Hello. Anybody? Buehler? Gimme that schockhammer! Oh what is that? The schockhammer. Oh so this is a new weapon right [UNKNOWN] this is like gnarly old shotgun like a double barreled semi? automatic? we're gonna find out right now here we go wow okay that was a lot and it's gone I used up all my ammo trying to kill that one dude. [LAUGH] that was such a great peak and we both got that lame [LAUGH] Here, guy. [NOISE] Put everything into like, like, the one. All your weight. No, I didn't have any ammo. Wait for that thing. [UNKNOWN] Okay. You sure, grenade [UNKNOWN] I was, no> I had no ammo. That's why I was panicking. Ok, ok, ok, ok, ok oh! Oh! Ok, awkward slide. Gotcha, gotcha buddy. So, obviously, you know, this, have you been encountering at this point in the game, like, the Classic like, run and gun, or stealth? Is there a lot of that going on? Both of those things. So, like, now, there is a whole intro, stealth section that I just did not, that I already beat. Okay. I wonder how many pipe hits it's going to take to take out this super soldier. Oh, I'd love to see some pipe action. [INAUDIBLE] Get it. [UNKNOWN]. Get [UNKNOWN]. You can also block with the pipe. Oh yeah. Probably can't block a shotgun, but A little [UNKNOWN]. Get pipe. Pipe time. All right three. Damn it. That was not so good. You can say, but quick loading time so hey. Yeah, badabom. All right, pipe. Pipe is awesome. I'm not gonna use pipe this time. So for the DLC I thought we'd get back to our roots. Start with the pipe. Like slowly shoot this guy in the face. ****, dank, ****, dank, dink,dank, ****, dank, ****. [LAUGH] Oh, look at him! Rocking out. [INAUDIBLE] Whoops! 'Kay, that was a wasted grenade. Hey, I think I heard something in the other room guys. Nah, it was nothing. That was directly on that. Ooh! Okay, give me the shock hammer back. All right. Peek-a-boo. Yep. So first. Oh, yeah. Now see, this is what I want to be doing is using this thing against the normies. Right. So New Order had like those enigmas and such. Yes. Is, is there anything along the lines of that or? There is there's sort of an illusion to maybe that stuff is gonna happen. Nice [UNKNOWN]. In armour. In sort of a note I found earlier. Oh, okay. Yeah. Nice, ooh. No, I don't think that was a the greatest [UNKNOWN]. Fairly good. Get your splash on. Thanks Rob. You bet. Yeah, so this it's now, this is, it's sort of hitting it's sweet spot now. A little earlier, there was taking a little time and I was getting a little antsy. Hm. You know Sweden signs a peace treaty with Hitler. No, that's not cool. So yeah, this is, it still does that kind of world building stuff. What I haven't really encountered thus far is the like character cut scenes that I really loved in New Order now granted this is still pretty early on so that stuff can be coming down the pipe. Ya know I've sorta been getting an idea for the villain is this woman Helga who's off somewhere else at a she got like a dig site try to find some weird crap that's going on. Yeah and so and so I've sort of been getting the hang of or sort of been getting to know her but haven't like seen her in action yet. Don't you tell me to stop it. [UNKNOWN] you. Just one of you guys. So I'm hoping that more and more villain stuff will come. Oh, hey,you guys are already dead. [LAUGH] A little later on because that was one of the things that I thought New Order did really well, was made, you have villains that you just like, hated. Yeah. [INAUDIBLE] Like, love to hate them. Yeah, that's what I want. Oh yeah. That, that first scene. Or one of the first scenes when you, get lock ed in the incinerator room. And Oh, yeah. Yeah, Death Shed. Death's Head, yeah. Death's Head, excuse me. Hah, Death Shed. Nice. Yeah, that's a rit. You don't wanna go to his shed, man. Dude, he should. He is just not okay. It's [LAUGH] But when he's peaking at you, Like, through the window and you're locked in. Oh creep, yeah! Oh man, I remember, Creepy moment. So creepy. Like, that, I legitimately was creeped out. Yeah. It's like, I remember playing that in my room, lights out, headphones on and just being like so, [LAUGH] awkward. Like oh, that's so weird. What, [UNKNOWN] There's more. There's more, man. Speaker 1: per pew. Alright, this is a situation where I don't want to be dual wielding. I want to do a little single. Speaker 2: You could, Speaker 1: I mean duel wielding is very accurate, because DJ is a superman, obviously. But, oh, god, he got a little close for comfort. << Do some of this Oh what you turned into a normal guy or he was just behind you? Ok we're cool, we're cool what do you think? Nope a little short << shorted it Behind the barrels he's hiding it how dare you observe my behavior and comment on it! Peekaboo! Have you run into. Something similar to New Order where, there's like a split in the, story path. Oh yeah. You could like side, you know, save one of the two, let the other one die. [NOISE] No, not yet. But this is. So this is. Oh god, reload. This is the sort of first of two stories that are contained within this. Oh, that's right. And so this one is the it happens here at castle Wolfenstien. The other one happens At this town, called Wolfburg, I believe, and is really where we start to get into some weird Nazi occult stuff, so what that is, will hold in store remains to be seen, the trailer sort of teased, some strange, creatures and whatnot, some zombie-like behavior, but, yeah They're, that's, that's what's going on Mm hm in old blood. Rob, I'm going to go in here and try to shoot some more guys with my sweet turit gun, but I feel like I'm going back here so that I could then go try to open that big front door and get in where the action is. I was a huge New Order fan. From last year. It was one of my favorite games of the year. Awesome shooter. Good stuff. Still looks like it's got it, it's all there. Yeah it's and it still feels kind of fresh like the, the kind of place of the game play and the big arena sort of areas that you run around and do your wheel thing and what not.
