Mean yeah.
Thursday April 15 twenty yen -- day I'm Tom Merritt I'm Donald now.
I'm Hollywood -- about bell labs in its podcast did certain length episode 1207 to forget about that tax day if it's a Long Island iced Tea Party time that's right.
And you can deduct that I wrote look at that patchy even -- I did them I just found out about factor them.
It's just in the air in. A lot I notice a lot of people driving grumpy. This morning --
-- as a horse -- morning ever I was losing my mind.
Like literally I stopped in the middle of the intersection and -- wouldn't don't know who's coming.
Or anything every kind of out behind link -- -- just like sound like I I don't know I had the guy knew who walked across it during the green light while the cars were already moving through the years that I had no idea like that it does is -- and that taxes it now uses.
That's is -- and they laugh it's slowing -- -- in the garlic. He couldn't use any if you think you know really that Canada.
So yesterday the Twitter chirp conference happened we talked a little bit about it.
Happening but I guess -- -- two QT to go on about.
Now we know some of -- official announcements there were talking about Twitter said they will have an official Android -- yeah I haven't said whether they're gonna buy one Mike sees -- or something -- twit to -- whether they're gonna develop their own but now we'll go alongside the Blackberry and iPhone apps.
Yeah they also announced they're gonna do their own.
-- -- --
-- -- news for Bentley trim the rights and.
Well you know if barely resisted Mara -- think you know where the anointed one -- -- know -- you know they illicit or you -- -- him sending it.
Yeah and and that their party by indentured shops and -- has shrunk dramatically -- -- this.
I mean I have to admit like at first I thought I don't know I don't know that -- ruling developers I mean of course -- but whatever but now it's like.
Oh -- because they probably will acquire another client.
Amber at that for handwritten and then you know -- -- the -- developers and then.
They're doing their own and -- actually link shortening only exists as -- cottage industry because of Twitter.
-- -- -- --
CEO Evan Williams said it would be stupid not to add native link shortening capabilities into Twitter since both Twitter clients already have that feature yeah series like why wouldn't we just do this ourselves and it's more reliable thing when -- -- -- goes out of business or whatever they have the worthwhile to do it themselves that makes it.
You know that only they only have themselves to blame if it goes down or messes --
And actually Billy.
Has.
Put out -- -- pro and they've got Amazon a New York Times and others as clients for -- cash -- in that way.
So one -- then B then they might be okay I think -- -- and they've been very smart about it because they also did a bunch of data mining and they've been providing metrics about what links people certain months off and I mean.
They definitely have been diversifying in a way that they needed to you and not dissing their whining -- --
And finally at The Library of Congress will be archiving.
All of your twitters -- and your twitters and your twitters.
At all of the Twitter you're children's children will read Dijjer tweaks when years and years from now -- -- -- a W a bit.
And say Dahlia and above and the Buzz Report that is posting later today check -- -- -- basically like that's off them because we really need Blake and archive.
Or ever a persistent archive of that one time in history when all we did was -- and now these.
You know arbitrarily abbreviated -- about what we ate for lunch -- and a ham sandwich.
So that our kids can just be like what was with the -- -- thank god our long national nightmare that -- end all be reference thing means that mean nothing anymore you know flake when I'm on a horse I don't understand what -- -- and talking about -- you write pound fail.
If I -- words.
Lottery winners although can you imagine I mean and --
This can you imagine if we had this -- level. Of data to mine through from like ancient Greece MRSA you know like yet throw out all the ham sandwiches and and that if there you know you can -- some pretty amazing historical trends out of things like the names like area like -- -- I'll tell it like this is what was on people's mind.
And they have Google replay now like Google's that there was gonna index these into a database and make them searchable it's a matter -- Kabul in trouble now.
But they are -- -- that Google replay feature to basically.
Let you see almost a graph kind of what was happening on the Internet in such real time when there were huge events like Michael Jackson's death --
Yeah earthquake in Haiti your you know I mean it's definitely.
It is a remarkable with historical record because it's so much more than the official. Write ups in the official news reports yet also a lot of it is you are exactly.
The signal to noise problems gonna be one -- to -- he'd be happy yeah.
It's gonna take some some move that data strip mining but just have to pull off that a -- yeah when the aliens come they'll just elect.
Release of aliens are coming into that later in the show yeah --
Meanwhile we're gonna and heats -- it'd distract us from the fact that the RI AA in the MPAA or deleting things off your machine and you lost all your songs when you went through customs.
-- --
Okay this kind of story where I read that Gizmodo right -- and I thought I'll come on that's just typical overstating I'm gonna go and -- -- the F that's said.
About the PA's plan that they just submitted to the office of intellectual property enforcement to there's no way.
That they actually want spyware on your computer that detects and deletes infringing materials.
Or mandatory feds -- -- and our Internet connections that would stop transfers of infringing if there's no way they're really asking for border searches of personal media players laptops and events even.
Bit -- now that anymore.
And then -- what.
Oh my god is all true.
Says that this is the RI AA RPA's plan submitted to the office of intellectual property enforcement they would like to put spyware on your computer that detects and deletes infringing materials they would like mandatory sense -- an all Internet connection all.
Internet connect all that would interdict transfers of infringing material just locket he can't get -- -- -- -- border searches of your media players laptops and thumb drives.
International bullying according to it is I mean I but I like that's is that essentially. They want it put in place is a policy to try to get other countries to implement the same procedures in Atlanta.
-- on the on the day that blockbuster movies are out they.
They would like the federal agencies to stop it hunting for terrorist and protecting your safety and instead went out on stopping copy -- of the -- stealing them until the brain actually re releases haven't need to get this person.
Right now with that is the most unbelievable like that the FF with it.
Big Hollywood studios debt you typing the FBI. And Department of Homeland Security to provide taxpayer supported muscle.
And summer's blockbuster.
Films are -- yeah I mean forget it let's see the inside the customs right and -- just for that it's like let's say that -- -- that.
But the -- fantastic four.
Part sixteen -- off 42.
Is opening in theaters in thirty V.
Then you should treat that with -- in seriousness that you would treats it like the crown jewels coming to visit the museum of modern writer Redmond get -- the New York museum whatever like that you would you know create a perimeter and coordinate shopping get a bunch of people like plastic -- things go and into their -- -- -- -- on on a problem over that aren't gonna.
Aren't you joked it's up Brecht in movie Michael Bay is a national treasure and anything he produces should be regarded as such home that you --
I find -- he's a border -- like that's does this is an actual copyright enforcement police state this is basically their police state wet dream.
In -- writing and it is now time to mobilize the nerds and and but.
Up and -- yeah isn't that Molly rant went off the rails.
They finally -- yeah. And now a -- apparently. Yeah.
Finally let go actually really -- you couldn't tell the difference and -- -- the --
I'm diluted Molly -- goodness. Wow. But now I am excited -- basically the only barrier -- everything.
Means that my kids will be able to live the V for vendetta dream of like you know overthrowing the government stranglehold.
Over you know their.
They're you know and it rates enjoy anything where the rates there have any kind of medium a computer yes if fact that this is unpatriotic.
And a threat to your security don't don't mistake this spoke to tell -- what they want to do is they want the government to come in and ensure their outdated business model.
At the expense. Of your tax dollars and your safety.
Because they want FBI and customs who should be stopping bad guys.
To start in sharing that their business model is -- crumbling because they don't feel creative enough right now to figure it out for -- for those themselves so.
You you can decide whether you want to support this or not you can have your own Tea Party on tax day about this if you want -- this is important this is gonna siphon away money from protecting you and your children's lives.
You want -- NBA and the RA do that.
Fine.
I'm pretty sure no one does -- just think that no one exactly realizes the extent to which this has.
Has reached epic levels of insanity and I think that this is part of them -- huge concern that is active being negotiated in public in secrecy.
And I think the fact that you just yesterday we reported on the GAO saying that most of the estimates around not just digital.
Copyright infringement but even counterfeiting physical counterfeiting which is part of the reason that they try to claim -- is in fact the big national security secrets.
Our bogus media and came from nowhere and can not be substantiated so this -- this all of this paranoia all of this freak out about.
Infringements. And piracy.
Is completely unfounded in actual hard numbers that would point to some sort of -- -- and I still.
I still think those devil's advocate here that -- night and -- -- advocate but just like the part of me that's excited about.
Late then trying to pull this off and the of the repercussion so what happened from like I do feel like -- would -- that the nerd uprising like -- -- before ocean off the rails.
-- -- --
And lately that's kind of exciting to think that that could happen well that's that's what I'm throwing down like you know -- -- first punch here I used the rhetoric of political idiocy just now million children in all of that because that's that's the level of debate that this is they're saying you know what it's gonna harm you it's gonna help the terrorists if we don't stop.
This you know piracy from happening.
-- we should throw that right back at them because it's actually more accurate in the opposite case where they're taking money against better from federal agencies they are taking -- name.
An effort from federal agencies that should be protecting it.
-- -- I got -- lands that border copy out and spend this much Homeland Security could be in England songs.
As they are looking for bomb.
I think this is irresponsible I get the theory -- pay it can't hurt to ask let's put this in front of the government but I find it irresponsible that they would do this especially this time.
That tells -- I'm unpatriotic because you know it just means Americans can't steal their own -- and right.
-- we have the freedom to steal our own things I admit that the rest of the world can.
Right because they have faster Internet we can't steal it not just because it's against the law but we can't downloaded actually color finish if --
Part of the problem though is that the RI double A and for example Sony have indicated that they don't actually think it is fair use for you to rip the CD.
That you won't.
And we know that the DM CA has already outlawed your ability to rip a dvd.
That you -- so even if you are and engaging in activity that should be protected fair use and at least in the case TVs right now.
Has been upheld to be even -- Sony and ardently don't think that it really is.
There is some possibility that you could cross the border.
And have music on your iPod Touch that you ripped from a CD and make -- daily you know this actually isn't protected areas we're gonna confiscate this.
And we have original bodies -- using them in Tampa because they can't advises them or you've got a movie on your computer and -- they can't prove right away that you like bot that digital download or.
Or I -- -- you've got music that your wife -- -- got her name on it not yours.
So that's not yours you shouldn't have it on your iPhone.
No I mean it -- we -- and tell we have actual exceptions that are broad and consumer friendly.
And an account for fair use and tell that is codified as law.
Then these guys need to sit down and shut up because this is absolutely dangerous for consumers.
I was trying to transition over to the -- -- I tell you where they just held it. Who's number one in broadband ars technical as a story today saying Ivan Seidenberg Verizon's CEO -- talked about on VO well.
Recently tried to say the US is number one in advance so they decided to look and find out who actually was.
Turns out Hong Kong as a good example city Telecom.
Made -- a few months ago with thirteen dollars symmetric.
100 megabit per second connections symmetric means you get a hundred megabit per second down and remember -- -- that needs to be able to -- the SL.
-- day.
The company slashed prices on its much faster one Gigabit per second fiber to the home offering.
Fully symmetric one Gigabit per section per per second connection 26 dollars a month.
US the other part of is that that bugs me is in the speed is the price little I want of both butt -- yeah yeah.
Yeah that's ridiculous idea of like a thirteen dollar high speed Internet connection in the -- like that data file of like actual landline it's three dollars yet -- -- -- -- IP TV service -- six to twelve dollars.
You can't find any television service in the US that is six to twelve dollars.
So anyway Hong Kong is certainly one of the -- spots on earth right.
You wouldn't expect to see this level of pricing conception is -- tech -- -- -- across the United States but we don't even have a hundred megabit per second.
Almost any -- Jihad -- and he was just one -- like I understand you can't bring the entire United States up to the same speed as Hong Kong because it's a much larger area it's it's a fair argument -- but couldn't we have.
One city in the US that was brought up to that we had one -- all area that was worthwhile upgrading to that could we maybe it's up.
Allowing the telecoms to just tell us that all the time and and -- like you -- you may get you know let it hit.
It's hard.
But a lot more people are paying you -- access and and frankly being wildly ripped off for access.
The -- -- could impact to -- that your protectors that they in one tiny little that you like you mentioned we might get somewhere close again but you patriotic duty.
He didn't that make that happen and they actually -- -- on here tomorrow night you're still and all our movies.
And Gigabit connection. How are we gonna fight that if we can't even log onto the Internet that's right.
Or and -- and.
-- --
-- -- saying hey -- quick break when we come back broadcasters are teaming up to create something you probably don't need.
This episode of buzz out loud is brought to you by go -- a provider of hybrid in cloud infrastructures features include standard windows and Linux operating systems partner provided server images with popular software stacks free Harvard load balancing and more.
Receive a 75 dollar instant service credit by sending up a -- could be oh well.
Is it www. Go -- dot com slash BO well for more details.
Q -- typical again this we're gonna send that guy after serious thing yelled look out.
Music industry are -- doesn't broadcasters have joined at BetaNews service for delivering television do you over the Internet this time mobile so kind of like Hulu except for mobile TV Andy uses all of that unused broadcast airwaves that the FCC is so greedily -- well yeah exactly let's be clear from.
This is project protect our spectrum I think -- -- seems like -- -- a little bit if -- the usual suspects in these sorts of things fox and NBC. Leading.
Along with ion television and nine of the largest owners of local TV stations -- Cox media group scripts and few others.
It's you know usual suspects. Getting together to delivery -- something I I said he probably don't need.
I don't know -- -- have -- you might if that was built into a lot of devices broadcast television to your Internet on demand stuff.
As well you know it's it's kind -- Hulu for mobile.
I mean they're they're definitely -- sinking of the artists -- -- I'm here today and there definitely characterizing it as a way to keep people watching live broadcasts the because the number of over the -- subscribers is on the decline in and that would be a way to can keep some of that up.
But yet it's.
Mobile TV is something that people are interested in and post digital TV transition and something that has a lot more possible. But there's no question that there also.
It's convenient for them to buy them in some ways to be able to say like we're probably we don't have an extra spectrum where you're -- all where is at all yet.
If it can't hurt.
So it's a little bootable they they this is part of the reason that they say they don't wanna have to give up their extra spectrum and like you said --
Some of that is not unreasonable and they they did just -- -- -- -- spectrum at the DTV transition and on the FCC wants Marceau.
Fair enough -- them say like this is exactly what we're gonna do with it you know yeah yeah exactly.
And it and it isn't it useless they can and academy I have to admit Eric Epstein it you know at CES sometimes there's little demos of TV -- -- as mobile TV.
Systems and it's gonna be -- on -- -- it wouldn't be necessary. Though if we had.
Legitimate fast wireless -- right because you can just stream any video at any time live or otherwise over the Internet.
The people's lives it's sort of delightful in Sacramento unnecessary add jumped the -- about how a lot of these is that they they just don't work very well -- movie.
You know we can have it -- staying in one place.
You're sitting on these devices and to get the signal and this is gonna -- strong hopefully but.
On the go still download material or streaming over the three G connections and it's gonna be steady for them but -- more options is better.
Her more -- is more better that bad news.
Many of you out there I know many -- you spoof VoIP numbers for one reason or another you can that you just cranking people who -- at -- TV service that think that you're actually at the location with paying for it but you that's a problem how says that the truth in caller ID act of 2010.
Which makes it illegal to cause any caller ID service to transmit misleading or inaccurate caller ID information.
And that includes VoIP because they say that this.
Change will affect quote any real time voice communication service regardless of the technology or network utilized.
Which is actually great in the sense it helped a lot with telemarketing -- issues.
It also maintains an exception for blocking your own outgoing caller ID information right and then on -- -- Portsmouth terribly portly Edward it probably won't even chillier.
-- -- --
Well yes it does get that you can block your outgoing caller -- --
That's true although I don't think you can change it.
-- -- -- -- --
-- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- --
-- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- --
Boxee is apparently on the hunt for an iPad and iPhone app developer.
And hoping to you know get it still right into that mobile streaming TV mark and -- -- -- an Apple.
Yeah they they want somebody with objective C experience right or at least that's the that's the idea here's your doing that night on that -- have to code in and it's no secret of -- -- -- -- -- platforms this makes sense that they would passivity in.
Boxing on the iPad pretty hot we've pretty high -- card is active I could see eaten up a lot of there's no Hulu may not -- -- no way.
They they also apparently said that Android -- experience is a plus.
In the in the mobile and a little Android action didn't lose you have -- of expanding the -- platform now acts and then look out.
Mobile and every tablet basic you know we watched. The on the on the iPad last night TV's out there because world and we -- -- not been able to record it on DVR.
Yet we've not been able to recorded on the DVR because of various things so we -- -- on.
Yeah I think that the night that I got and actually watch like the modern family iPad episode on the -- yet to be super mega about the whole thing and apparently -- -- my clouds ahead if area a little bit -- lead at the -- had 250000. Streams -- the abc.com map already know and like the majority of them have been that episode -- think I'm gonna do this funny adding that -- the front page of the app on there may well yes does it say.
Cleverly paid advertisement.
If that fifth.
Alex.
I do think it's in -- it's -- yeah I've ever did spring readers have been now somebody's into spring sued Barnes and knowing statements -- similarity but.
Frankly they didn't need to -- is the reader is much better looking.
It's got a bigger screen down at the bottom it's got Android in there and that is nicer than me and you can see dissimilar there's --
You've got a web browser at the bottom and we haven't tried it yet but it might actually turn pages fast.
-- that's and they say they say there.
And it can use certain Android applications apparently down there -- that little touch screen area and thinking actually and it's. It's expensive.
-- -- 199400. Bucks which puts it you know above the Kindle less than the iPad although frankly I think -- that -- -- pension costs so it's this this thing should probably be about it.
Don't know what you do with that screen on your right the next one coming -- -- like the color browser for the the books and content that actual content it.
The Palin feeding into eating from the screen -- -- could play video.
Okay. My high I used to be horrible Kindle browser.
To look up things in Wikipedia while I was reading yeah I would guess that that would strike me.
And I gonna pull it up and and -- like okay what was the real you know I wanna find a history behind whatever -- this -- just made.
And it was pain this would be fantastic --
Because it actually that is very good point but probably work better and be quicker -- -- -- really -- you know so I mean at a hundred dollars with -- I --
And now that's not at all like iPad you know fanfare over here gambling but and still think that's that's so yeah.
Yeah I think it's way too expensive I mean I think. Future looking.
The Kindle dictionary for example and -- limited or at least it can't keep up with -- Austin and that -- -- be -- Kindle I don't think it's I don't play any dictionary problem what you don't have poker Judy is that -- -- --
But it would be really nice to be able to -- look at me in the words down there will be just make up -- -- you -- of them worthless to admit that the real.
-- time for the real news folks. -- people and it's several midwestern states.
Mostly up near Milwaukee Wisconsin reported a fireball in the sky for about fifteen minutes beginning at 10 PM -- food -- I mean what it I just oh -- tries to meet.
Stay right here but let's be -- and time back then the line behind and times are constantly.
The earthquakes are actually starting treatment at this point -- you know it's a window that but now it's just didn't easier and workers and whatever then there's volcanoes on top of that and there's fireballs and it does look at weather dot com incidently who.
And citizens fireballs fireballs that tornado. -- like word for data not with me and and more earthquakes and then fire off.
Also back the -- -- do you eat those.
If this was an end time fireball not that the dispute your impeccable logic -- -- -- have.
Destroyed something like doesn't seem to is this the warning was just like the warning shot like a shocker -- -- -- its charter Panama.
And people apparently felt.
Like a rumble.
I can't wait to check the weather graphics though for like when we think getting more frequent fireballs and tonight for lunch time here railroad system cheating --
And -- everywhere and you can do stuff telling me that it's totally statistically normally get rich and clusters because I know it.
They really love -- me alone I'm having fun what are all these -- that lets you use.
I mean for -- -- it -- like anti tell -- if it's if it's a normal -- W haven't seen them.
Your alliance or literally trying to cover up the broad she hours literal everyone.
And 10% chance of -- and it did happen whether people world is wrong -- seriously cleaning.
-- however we can pretty much be sure that that meteor was not a UFO piloted by aliens because according to C magazine's. Geoffrey Miller.
-- Fermi paradox which wonders why after so much -- searching for extraterrestrial intelligence we haven't found any he's not because of conspiracies to hide them if because all the aliens are busy playing computer games.
-- -- sitting on the yeah I can see that you know as we're plotting our own trajectory towards that you know eventual future of just sitting in our own holiday acts.
You know what they're virtual reality and helmets on pop.
Obviously I think it's probably good news campaign.
Is kind of Psycho analyzing the aliens he says yeah he's got a real good reasons yeah the aliens he says forget to send radio signals or -- is because they're too busy with runaway consumerism and virtual reality not the system.
The fundamental problem that any ball mine must pay attention to indirect using biological fitness rather than tracking fitness -- -- and although revelation evolution neighbors screamed -- and the Mac might fitness.
No brain has capacity enough to do so under every possible circumstance.
So we know we don't --
Anyway -- it's -- so he's not talking about that aliens illegally hacking about.
And -- them for example instead narcissistic he's talking about me I need did you say right away consumer is that you -- America.
Is basically mediocrity answer to why we haven't found that high clock on the plan that's right.
There are unknown and there it is well -- -- -- worried as we come up with ways to fool our system that is meant to keep us alive in as a species.
You know we could Fuller -- right out of existence yeah.
It -- I love -- the real -- the.
Aliens don't blow themselves -- they just get a -- -- -- game and they stop reproducing.
They enslave themselves. Because they have too much -- just as we're doing.
If those Gigabit per second that'll do -- -- download speeds saddle.
And all of their souls are gone because they help stop shopping UK game retailer game station.
Which just revealed that it legally now owns the -- of thousands of customers thanks to a closet secretly added to online terms or conditions -- its website.
The immortal soul clause was added as part of an attempt to highlight how few customers read the terms and conditions of an online sale.
88% of the customers did not read the clause which gives legal ownership of the customer soul over to the UK based games retailer.
Only 12% of the customers noticed the claws and -- the opt out box not only keeping their souls but giving them five pound gets you to think.
Not only did to get lawyers in this and -- -- to edit I guess they did this is an experiment.
You know to reward the people actually read their terms and conditions of find out how many people are actually paying any attention any.
Now I'm looking at the end of of the follow but the repo man comes -- -- asked -- -- think that shows you the fine print --
-- and radio station on this if -- -- says souls for -- for sale we have all types.
I have a -- missiles myself actually.
They're in a Manila folder I did it one year and Halloween party you review -- -- contract.
Asked people like -- you know have -- he urged it and beer or whatever this he's surprised that people -- always scenario -- just sign away their --
Well because we have become. Addicted to rampant consumers and okay narcissistic we totally undervalues our battle we all get all we care about his -- -- porn.
It's not souls. -- -- Toyota mcdonalds after that's actually disturbingly true when I learned it Oates noted that the --
It's -- the -- the voice mail all -- longtime listener to the show calls and with some thoughts about the iPad trademark.
From his unique Brazilian perspective.
This is from Brazil and yes -- talk about the -- they had been delayed internationally.
I'm going to say that at least in Brazil I could see -- --
Not because of the sailors but because Apple didn't get did I Patrick Markey yet.
The ability -- -- a company that sells a product called I bet fast which is an automated defibrillator.
And that just proves that are consistent and -- my system is -- screwed up -- --
Because I have this differently and it -- -- touch screen complete music and MediaSmart bringing someone back from a heart attack.
I don't think that's a conflict -- trademarks here.
Anyway my two cents but the show.
All that yes it's true true only in Brazil will that be possible though that's what I -- -- automatic defibrillator in Brazil to place and you know salsa music from patent my hit return trip back to life I also do apparently. As -- -- ST microelectronics. Did in fact file for a trademark back in September of 2001.
On the iPad and it sounds like they do in fact have a problem that it would admit out of with the European Union's at -- just for them.
What's interesting to me about this is the fact that with trademark.
If there's not.
A potential for confusion you can use the same name as someone -- -- that's why there's Linux so for instance and and you know big you can call something you can -- something.
It in it's slightly different. Market will play out -- -- Apple's.
Yeah right well beatles' Apple there was an I mean does he have I yet ultimately though right right and then you can call something as long as there's no confusion -- -- open the other one is a nuclear bomb -- on the same thing.
These aren't the same thing they're certainly not.
Much likelihood of confusing if I go to the store and I either want a little computer to play games on or I want a defibrillator. --
To be clear what they are both electronic devices and a.
So one day and if if they -- now it's because it applied for the right to.
They -- it under.
Apple wants the rights -- a -- much wider range of classifications -- ST microelectronics.
Although. ST microelectronics already owns it in two of the classifications that it applied for nine and sixteen -- deal with electronics and components.
Nine does and sixteen deals with the use -- name in print on everything from boxes of -- to software to computer -- so it's a little about.
What you're doing with it and it's more about what -- filed for exactly.
So STM electronic micro it esteem -- -- -- already owns or has filed for a trademark into the categories that Apple wants to be in the title and those are pretty broad categories electronics and components and then also the name in print.
Apple -- by the company right.
--
And they make you can out of that -- defibrillator apps for the iPad the -- -- them that's -- you could come up -- a defibrillator app and then it and then a proprietary extension for putting the pads on entering the chart I don't know that battery is pretty powerful not sure it's powerful enough that the but now be such a great there's an app for that commercial.
Ray and category that there's an but there I'm sure that the minimum there's -- -- to the end up.
It's definitely a mod isn't that that that -- here's how to do it.
On -- emails about at cnet.com. -- it Taba in numbers and Australia says.
Hey does doesn't Verizon having might buy or something.
Couldn't that account for these logs saying that iphones have visited this app site via the Verizon network.
-- we got.
Other thoughts -- email to the -- like a lot like well okay whatever ten or fifteen and a phone call and I feel -- -- Leo yeah but.
I sort of feeling -- people who I mean a lot of smart nerds reported this news -- and looked at the log file and a feeling some of them would've thought that like I wonder if and because we talked about however that how devices tend to read the -- signal as.
Wi-Fi but they don't realize that it's -- 3-D signals so if that app itself was somehow communicating to the server that it was right now -- I signal that wouldn't necessarily.
At first I was assuming -- the logs are at the server adds to the service gonna know where that connection is coming from you have to pass through the MiFi and the way the server but if you look at the graph.
From yesterday 95% of the connections were white black which implies that that app is somehow knowing like okay I'm on the Wi-Fi not the three G.
In which case when you're on the -- and the iPhone the iPhone doesn't know it's -- three G it just it's going to Verizon and exits on Wi-Fi -- that's the signal let's get.
And if that -- the case I feeling -- actually be it would have shown up.
Earlier and possibly have been a higher percentage in a lot that was such a tiny tiny that's what made it interesting is that it was a Verizon network in -- -- point 02% I mean and other analog my eyes but but there's a lot of crossover in that market right of people who might want an iPhone and that one.
Especially given --
-- --
There's in other email anyway that was interesting thing and I'll be I'll be curious if there's any follow up and --
Marshall in Vermont writes in and says to -- -- HTC should stick to hardware is ignoring the fact that they do the exact opposite of that right now HTC has more engineers working on Windows Mobile Android development than anyone other than Microsoft and Google.
It's easy built its reputation on scanning win -- attach floats are -- like Iran.
And are doing the same with cents on Android -- differentiate their products in my opinion makes them -- better than the standard OS.
Now the Microsoft is putting a stop to this and make total sense that they would want to make use of the huge investment.
That went all their custom software if they do by comet will likely be a great match because the combination of web OS cents and sweet hardware.
We'll give anyone else out there -- -- for their money. That's.
Good point that's really good point -- they bring after they have sunk a lot of investment into something and and that window at least the windows part will lessen.
Now I'm in Windows Mobile is entirely going away -- right away but.
They're they're gonna wanna put up these windows phone seven and and -- development is restricted on that but I still think.
That there's an argument to be made especially the Android side that it might be better to just keep going in that way but.
But yet -- something to consider is if they said you know what let's toss all this and let's not make Android.
Phones anymore -- -- -- windows on I think may be the smartest thing in the end after all of this discussion is due at all.
-- -- by palm -- not exactly you know.
Comic use opens more open source operating systems continue on Android continue on windows and and I I feel like HDC is in that position where they can be the one's that served effort -- -- because everybody else's is going niche.
And they can do the Google model where they have there anointed found that the little more top down and then they have an operating system they can have all the control over but maybe they can still taking all the united because they -- make in the annoyed that -- Google.
That that's what's so brilliant is they're like you know what we could make it make you -- -- Apple you don't care.
We'll do it all. I actually have anything I feel like looked HTC to be a much bigger name and and accidentally. Get --
-- a guy -- the supercomputing I think I can't believe that nobody has mentioned this yet.
Is sure wasn't common sense when not to be surprised another company's trademark and Apple released iPhone just trademarked by Cisco.
I heavily weighted in tonight that I remember.
That there was a ton of speculation at the announcement and then it was like really can't do it Cisco owns the -- they haven't come to an agreement probable online and released at -- -- Catholic.
-- we're gonna call it.
IPhone like it could have been more like.
-- -- -- -- -- --
You know the defibrillator people who have -- I'm not a chance yeah no they really don't I -- if -- will completely disliked it could stand up there I I made them joke about like -- a big dog and has taken.
Yeah and even at the this.
I want we talked about this in the -- I just hop that is a defibrillator but Stan yeah into the better than anyone I've ever remembering to give them.
--
And also -- -- right -- and says hey. I just wondered what -- -- a story about printing on the iPad he says problem.
Solved. Idea Kelly you can pull up that that linked it to me now because this incompetence -- -- -- visual joke it is an the funny thing is all morning long have been seeing things on Twitter like yeah iPad printing finally -- -- then like it works on iPhone and iPod -- through the may -- seeing.
And then -- -- that ended.
It's.
Off some --
Awesome it was like the best -- April fool's joke.
That didn't happen on April you probably have seen it by now that essentially taking an iPad and putting it on a scanner it's not past.
And the scanner and then prints and part of yet the photo appears genius Larry --
