Ep. 1384: iPhone 4 on Verizon and the CES hailstorm of awesome
Buzz Out Loud
This Tuesday January 11.
Sensitive -- I am Brian --
I am Molly willow and well go into buzz out loud is cnet's podcast of indeterminate length it is episode thirteen 180. -- all -- energy stuff.
Required -- -- are -- -- -- -- again I get you fired up the gun is fired up yet defendants came out here in San Francisco and it's our second live -- of the -- and that.
It is actually you're watching -- live you know it killing 9:10 AM Pacific.
Time which is more than an hour and a little -- or -- --
Our show usually we just wrapped live coverage of the Verizon press conference -- so that's obviously like.
The top news of the day we'll get -- CES recap though they -- Dahlia.
Because while we have a fun time there.
And then they drag our but -- here at 8 AM Pacific for their big press conference this morning and we said -- not Apple I've done in.
I for one I'm canceling my Verizon -- flesh that -- -- that Matt.
My eyes are so small -- look more Asian than normal. Active salmon and then the thing but they -- up.
The good news then.
Naked in a totally dropped the -- -- let's get to some respects the way you guys it's acts on the rise and Apple for coming it will not be a -- G.
LT phones will be available on Verizon current customers didn't get access to pre order it earlier it will be available in stores though that -- tenth.
For sale now one any night for the sixteen gig model the -- different team feature that it has -- the -- the iPhone the mobile hot spot.
Blue Obama vowed that is pretty much is that seems to be the only differentiator it is not an LTE phone there was a lot speculation about that.
Mainly because Verizon opened up the press conference.
Talking I mean as they have been all week as they -- they talked.
CES was all about I've -- -- network via.
Ordeal before GOP -- GODs and -- devices and I --
-- -- -- -- --
-- -- shocker after net you know you really it was a shock but only after it wasn't.
It wouldn't have banned for any other reason but that CES was still all about or GOP and that that's how they -- the -- site -- I just causes.
It does seem like taking a step backwards and -- -- the united I just didn't feel that we readiness to deal that Mo going like it's gonna -- that's gonna happen.
It added an ambulance -- --
Illustrate the street -- analog ones are has -- carriers and they're the ones that usually tell you ministry said no.
But still it will have the mobile hot but heated up the pretty big deal I have through an awesome there isn't as much official word -- -- pricing data pricing although the FAQ the president take you on its website.
Seems -- that you can choose from the current data prices.
Bomb on Verizon for Smartphones that make -- seems to have all the information that we want and that's why it doesn't -- now.
Everyone's hitting it -- also bumper.
-- users who use the voice and -- working cooperatively a -- at the moment this TDMA network or the Verizon iPhone four.
Will not have that ability but then again they have normal hot spot.
So if that's enough for current AT&T people to jump over.
Then maybe then they'll get them but really the whole question is how many people at this moment in time will jump over -- definitely and there's plenty of people like are pretty certain body.
Who came in our -- -- -- came in their.
I just signed up for it I wanna know about it -- I don't care I want to Verizon iPhone -- I don't even know you know.
She's exactly the market he's been that had that the man who's been waiting for an iPhone four.
Some people have even purchased Android phones just -- the plants.
They're they're desire for national or so is going to be very -- -- the -- I think it's an exploding go gangbusters.
Adding it up that's no question you know and I think there -- their unbelievable pent up demand and and so what really becomes you know it in some ways like now it's it's a game of who's the loser ray.
Ouch -- -- rim is already being pushed out of Verizon stores by Andhra and now you gotta -- written about so many red compounds.
An Android I think is gonna is about to take -- pretty serious -- I predicted that the my in a prediction show.
The -- and prediction talent as standard -- -- hurt him.
When -- -- -- -- on and I think they well I mean this is they have been able thing to gain the marketshare that they have because the iPhone with locked up.
AT&T what other interesting note that came out of this was the presence -- that the deal with Apple.
That they do have -- a new partnership with Apple but it's not exclusive.
And so the next round of rumors I think -- expect. T-Mobile and -- I mean does this mean the iPhone is about to become.
You know and all carrier phone and it's so once again I think you see that market share.
We we mentioned this during of the -- -- apologies if -- there if -- in her tutors got a little bit.
That Android just this past -- of plants and the iPhone in terms of US market share and I think next quarter that let.
-- -- also -- -- obviously prices make an investment for the long term with Apple on this on the Bloomberg reports that the iPhone may cost Verizon.
In the first year basically by subsidizing the phones essentially pony up 400 dollars to cover you know they're writing a -- to the consumer to cover that cost of the phone itself.
But at the end of the day like I mean AT&T did that they locked in all those customers further subscriber fees Verizon's willing to take decisions for the long term partnership as a whole timeout.
I had some future Apple laptops running on their networks taken advantage of the port to connect to be like.
Even though you say well -- billion dollars as of a lot in aperture in the in the long till this is this gonna work in their favor.
I had absolutely worth it one thing we speculated about earlier to was you know now let's say you go out by the iPhone four and -- -- -- lets you Benito and Andy.
-- -- as they can palpable.
DS beat the crap back you either get this media spam plague while you're there -- you get it when you get back right nobody avoid the -- -- -- Nolan is safe.
-- -- -- game that the end outlet sort of virus from Vegas.
Common sentiment arms and I don't think that meandered numbers -- -- -- just because an iPhone or I think they are for a couple of quarters -- and connecting it to -- long game.
And they still are gonna be more and -- devices because the iPhone four is not the most technologically advanced phone necessarily on.
That network but.
The fact that it now has the mobile hot but.
It is it's by far has parity but the interesting thing is.
We expect iPhone five.
By the summer so if you pop over to Verizon now.
You get that upgrade price the subsidized price on the phone you're locked into the two year contract how -- are you.
When iPhone five comes out in the summer -- and -- -- -- of interesting timing you know.
Yeah but they're gonna lock in all the subscribers as much as they can moon and then move forward with that people.
See the thing to me is that people that are savvy enough the tech savvy world who pays attention to those timetables of the phone -- they're the ones are going to be affected.
But the six month data now where you have your general consumer who and what you set -- what you said as we on the dot it's not the most technologically advanced phone out -- the market.
But it doesn't matter to those general consumers that are the ones that are -- the iPhone.
-- its its not gonna matter so even when the new I -- by unknown to the general to the general consumer.
General is -- does not nobody is gonna be happy if they buy a brand new phone and -- like -- been --
This is the shiny new toy right now -- tech industry right oh my god the bright night for you buy and six months later there's -- new iPhone.
Are you basically just like.
Thanks for that -- thanks Apple I think you're -- mode not even that you care about the technological advancement does that like you've just bought another new thing.
I think you are in attendance is up to you as a consumer Phillies find out when the next iPhone might be coming -- I think the iPhone is such a popular device that.
You know your mom.
Your mom your mom's mom are just asking someone.
When is the next one coming because people are now used to the fact that a -- one's gonna come eventually now how long how far away -- the coming from the time I wanna buy right now.
Yeah so it's just yet there's always a new phone coming there are -- it is but I wonder if there will I wonder if there will be a tier of tech people that way.
-- -- -- obsolete you know and -- warrior like early termination -- are coming down just by a couple more months -- -- -- those of the -- credit data.
Definitely I mean I know that there -- obsolescence issues I'm just saying that any iteration of an iPhone is always like.
African plane crash in the music world that you will even if your mom and pop consumer you'll hear all about how there's -- new iPhone five because like -- at the gallery damned the -- and pragmatic.
And -- -- again I just get this one from Brighton and the other interesting notes about it appears to be from the photos that there's a -- -- change and slightly new antenna design.
Power -- -- -- say it definitely is.
It's like at a changed antenna design Verizon as much as confirmed it thing yap you know we did some testing.
And we we made some changes -- it and what it seems to be is that now the antenna breaks are above.
The mute and ringer buttons on the side there whereas before I think there were a little bit below.
A mobile before they only had seen here on the top new okay so what it is is there's a theme at the -- on the -- this is gonna be gone.
And a review replaced with two themes on these points and -- seems down these lower points where they've always existed -- and I think you -- -- seems tops you know top and bottom.
And or on the upper sides lower sides sorry about that.
And then we we don't know yet about data pricing although I -- and -- -- seems to indicate that you it's the same pricing.
And it was before and then literally we are talked about pre order for.
Yet but interestingly Verizon customers get a job they are the ones who get the pre order on February 3 entertainment -- but it does make sure we covered everything because we don't wanna have to talk about it that much again this just --
Well one other interesting thing to note Apple and Verizon stock not really movement you know the news and now it kind of has brought that surprised me because I think this.
Is a huge -- like revenue.
Generator -- we -- yeah Apple we were talking about it offline a lot of times whether it's their earnings reports or something like this the -- happens before the announcement.
The -- because no I mean I'm not I don't track Apple all the time but.
-- before CSI believe they are flirting around 320 mid 320s -- something around there the fact that it's around 340 now everyone put you know.
Puts big now and in the fact that okay it looked -- their expectation sometimes it even gets a little.
Yeah so it has it has acquired as of today dipped a little but -- -- -- is reporting totaling about 342.
Going in the last bit I -- thank you reverend for their minor and chat room.
The last bit of news about it is that the white iPhone.
Will be available it is listed on the web site -- and apparently Apple was holding the white iPhone -- this announcement and so now Verizon will present.
In ostensibly get the white back panel of experts but ten op but four -- -- -- -- lightly and weird thing is now.
They announced that the other we were talking about a cable what's the price invited to -- the price --
And we talk about how the marketing you know world where it's the -- world -- --
They did the big announcement we'll probably here you know within the week the specific details on the pricing just so everyone knows -- locate and then right before it comes out Apple make an announcement.
The white iPhone is now available.
On AT&T and Verizon and every one -- and it keeps the mogul in the moment of the no I'm not halt the low and it's all about the --
The for the next month -- it's all about -- know I like to mount -- like it.
I am gonna I'm gonna hop over to finance -- not comment taking in tech eighteen key stuck there are already reports of course AT&T then.
Is facing potentially its toughest year since its 2000 form formation because it is losing the exclusive US rights to the iPhone.
And now investors are expecting -- sales shortfall. With AT&T.
Just to give the idea the impact the iPhone here on this is -- projections from Bloomberg they expect that nine million iphones would ship this year through Verizon.
But that's in addition to the already.
Eleven million units through AT&T.
-- -- --
But that's just showing that Apple's market to your car and just almost by these rough projections right and basically doubling with the addition of Verizon now.
I'm sure well it's a huge it's a huge market opening up for Apple it is definitely. There's no question it's huge losses for AT&T like AT&T and they haven't.
As near as I can tell AT&T seem to be just kind of bearing their head in the sand about the fact that they were gonna lose I -- with -- -- -- make them.
Seen them make a serious investment and other so called hero phone it's not like they -- -- Verizon.
Not having the -- -- work on whole hog yet Android.
I mean they own -- the impact potentially made and -- what it is in some ways because they got so hardcore behind the Droid campaign.
And those kind of things.
And I have not seen eighteen --
Get serious about Android or get serious about promoting other -- and it seems like the only other -- -- really got excited about the Blackberry --
You know that really you're about to lose iPhone exclusivity and other -- impression as you may hear a thing in them and earned -- --
If you break my heart right now they did get some cool CES announcements like that a -- forgy of them Motorola phone.
That's the one that they showed docked into the Apple -- popping up and finally is an accessory -- up on the entire point of the phone.
That the total at a feature this feature but that is coming to AT&T there were some cool four G phones announced for AT&T but it sort of like.
The answer to lay the groundwork make a little.
Stronger and then the other aspect that we -- -- talk about is okay right we know an iPhone -- will mean it's -- happen with the which is within about six months and I don't think -- why -- the why wouldn't they announce a forgy LT phone right now.
Well the basic and right now for the if you look at the long -- the longer of this once an iPhone five comes out on both carriers and I know we talked about this in -- stream.
Once it's on AT&T and and Verizon Verizon at that point is really gonna have more -- -- -- they have a more mature forgy LT now we're at.
AT&T has been running behind an admittedly sultan where -- -- with their forgy development.
And that's when -- that's really when you're gonna see people like me.
Pretty much make the jump over to Verizon once but contracts prime the new models out it's gonna be a four -- phone its gonna be on Verizon.
I know the Bay Area is different than other areas some people won't be affected as much.
But from just even a maturity of a four GLT network -- I would hedge my bets on Verizon I mean that's not only what they were time -- but.
The network has been able to handle it I.
I for -- -- LT next year and if there's a network to pick.
-- I'm -- going to be Verizon.
Definitely resins -- and I think that's me that really interest in buying conundrum for people to and I am really curious to see.
It may turn out to be just like you know that that video that was all over the web where they -- we don't have the iPhone we have the evo I don't -- that I can.
-- -- nominal. Phones announced that the -- a dual core phones like two gigahertz phones front and back cameras.
Unbelievable features hot spots -- --
On that lit the Droid by on -- can bet that a tricks that LG four dual core phone.
A lot of those are for Verizon and they're coming out this quarter. -- and -- as part of me that's like.
We -- when you put. It about line up on a shelf and many of villa iPhone four in there and 3-D.
Whether you're letting you highlight -- and this is a graduate thing going into CES they relate.
I know shareware fired up about iPhone but we're gonna have a theory it.
The -- without iphones that some of like for them I've enforce them that's not forgy I don't think that's gonna be either their top but you know there's some.
They you know -- didn't -- and if you're making the -- to perhaps you'd like you could be -- and jumpers them.
A more often found 114.
The smart thing or that -- thing about -- that their game plan isn't focused -- centered on a single phone.
Even though the Droid was there at that time -- champion -- -- here and they were still like you know promoting the heck out of the other phones now the iPhone is just now part of their stable.
With this -- connected it's not only phones right tablets and laptops specific to the four G network.
I mean they are ready to take over in 2011 -- mobile connectivity -- I just don't see.
Where you where else you wanna go right now I mean.
-- I was gonna -- out there right now to generate what.
At 1011 -- it.
They didn't let on an online presence there haven't grammar right down there to be on next year until --
2011 is -- and here it is that the carrier to -- -- let's let's take a quick break.
When we come back we do have a little bit of other tech news.
And it's not about the -- nada backbone Milo artists and they'll show and I even -- back in a minute.
-- -- -- -- --
Well never never had a minute line break that was like there's -- -- two minutes -- that laws like that -- seconds I second the my -- -- the August.
Hardy at Lawrence all right we're back on this news happened just yesterday it really awesome -- until Nvidia.
Look out -- -- rivals are teaming up so Intel India.
They basically heavily across like they had a patent dispute.
Between the chipmakers based on technologies involved in their processor and graphics they've agreed to a six year one point five billion dollar -- -- -- cross licensing deal that would allow Intel essentially.
Integrate some of -- -- -- all these.
Especially into their sandy bridge processor line which not only want our best of CES for computers -- laptop category but this is you know obviously the process that we're going to see in.
Every device not just laptops were gonna seed and desktops and the fact that now they can leverage to other technologies off of each other.
That's win win for the consumer it really is and -- with kind of shocking -- actually.
In now and I don't actually don't think I don't know why it took this fault this happened because we had that it TI. -- and the thing for so long battle of man.
Added I think Intel is trying to kind of -- its own.
Keep you development in now and another thing I -- we're gonna do that with sandy bridge content and it obviously takes.
Kind of you know graphics processing on a -- to the next level but they're also doing this cross licensing and now they can they can make all of that even better.
Yeah that that's a big deal indicating a weird big deal. Quickly is that AMD had to.
This pretty awesome CES -- unveiled the fusion family of chips they have positive reviews at CES.
The share price with climbing steadily and then all of a sudden the CEO Dirk Meyer.
Did you say right now no idea -- the stock tanks there where they were approaching ten bucks -- -- the stock tanked and is currently down around them would think.
Eight dollars and that those stocks tumbled nobody knows why -- maybe he was like in a fight with the board but everything and while.
And the will of that the way to kill them -- I know write and add good mouth. Big could mount the whole about the --
Just quickly actually sorry that'd that'd kill our -- a little bit but that's Harriman's reporting that.
We have let them infinitely can edit MySpace apparently it's gonna be doing 47%. Laying off 40% 7% of its allow forged today.
Pattern of they have so far.
But it sounds like that is happening so I'll I'll primarily kinky and I and it Wally -- is an exciting and heavily logged in to twice in the past year and a half.
Yet I'll be the one turns out yeah -- -- redesigned and now the last time I -- -- just to see what the redesign would look like for a show -- really boasted that and I was like a Caroline and the CEO has confirmed that heavy -- they significant organizational restructuring that will result in 47%. Staff reduction while across all divisions globally will impact about 500 employees and it is never -- what we're not making light of people losing their jobs -- that sucks but.
I mean that's a condition of his MySpace has not been able to really do much it's remarkable that Vista had so many employees -- 47% in their workspace workplace is still 500 employees adding that over a thousand people working on MySpace.
For that -- that's remarkable.
Let's see they did say though that since the worldwide rollout of the new MySpace -- been more than 3.3 million new profiles created.
-- which is that they say they now have over 22 million users.
In mobile users are mumbling. Okay and that's that news.
A rival jumping over to back to kind of are regularly scheduled programming music jobs -- is -- join Rupert Murdoch onstage to unveil the iPad paper this is.
Candidate daily newspaper with a built in subscription that we've talked up only a few weeks ago.
Are over the past month on it looks like it's anticipated -- happening.
At the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art the -- which is like a block away from what it says we should I really don't -- maybe we should've been -- -- is expected be January 19.
-- it may change but this is you know Rupert Murdoch is really pushing forty -- treated.
Entire mobile division specifically to make a paper specific to the iPad -- tablet platforms.
On -- of one of his initiatives of you know -- been involved in the next wave of -- so I'm curious to see how this looks pricing plays out but --
I'm very happy if it's really going to be iPad only and iPad it's nothing or ever mean we because we saga.
What that looks something like fifty tablets were announced at CES Motorola zoom but wasn't wasn't you know our best of CS best of show winner.
And look I mean really like Android tablets were coming out of the woodwork.
And like we say the iPad may have overnight summer are now but it's a long game and I am not at all okay but the idea of contents.
Being created for specific devices and I think that is a disaster. For consumer.
In addition to that you can't if you were at CES you can't ignore how many other -- -- gonna be that the market's gonna be the -- Saturday with you know.
Highly competitive ones we saw the Blackberry Playbook in action.
-- looked cool with a usable user interface which looked cool.
You know okay fine try this out if you wanna make -- -- -- Cuba really -- you're losing a huge revenue stream if you think -- gonna bet just on the iPad.
Because you shouldn't this year.
Yeah or any device that distinctive device specific content is a nightmare I'm horrified by that -- -- constantly get just.
That is so so bad for the consumer look at that the use the Kindle model.
As your as your benchmark Writely you Mayo created Etna blow it up make -- everywhere he's been Netflix model be an embedded system like it -- -- and I -- --
Murdoch in you can argue about the pay wall -- one he's the only guy has made it work -- -- could still argue that it's the wrong approach the content that device specific content -- --
And -- quickly.
The wrong approach -- -- and that are summer.
None of gun all fancy words fancy about fancy.
I had no he doesn't admit to that but even miss the narrow -- back -- those are right next the numbers and quick it will ensure that.
Lets you in the face there's -- -- -- Google ice cream is landing in time for the summer this is according -- -- basically at CES.
On the Sony -- -- Ericsson showed -- -- -- are supposedly running the yet to be unannounced mobile OS.
Android 2.4 -- they said.
-- -- --
He had the best thing they said is that it was they were only in the issue to a software corruption issue on the device rather than actually running 2.4 I think.
The software corruption happened when someone installed 2.4 on it probably whether -- he has no but it's coming sometime in summer.
No features have really been released this is again not honeycomb but its its coming down the line.
That's -- sweet tasty snack.
Yeah honeycomb -- -- even official yet penny count I mean a lot of the tablet that we thought CES they were saying like that -- -- ready to go.
But honeycomb is not baked yet -- -- -- -- be talking about ice cream although I am happy that this is the first.
I mean adolescents you know I said it -- zoo being on my little can kind planter and amp.
I will say pocket lint is the first site to finally explain the naming the iteration when it's there alphabetical. It's like hurricane names.
Did I did not know I don't -- and now they're gonna be okay for audio path to the red G I think come of age.
-- -- -- --
They -- pocket lives and I thought nothing now we just can't sustain it and jelly beans jelly beans it's gonna be of the suite Julio eighteen and jolly rancher and done that.
Satellite -- it's okay to.
Mean it out Jack Graham is like you to figure out the naming a -- it turns obviously we -- about what we mostly do is that breaking news ago we got it's your that we are not omniscient -- my god.
Believe dominates we data breaking Hitler we don't know everything all the sometimes we miss the view of how about -- just one time like just today because we're really tired of cutting Apache.
Try not to be jerks about it.
No we didn't know that and you know -- all three of us didn't know it so how about --
Well to tell to -- also in the chat and the -- tavern numbers Matty out.
It's also in the quake -- -- buy an upgrade like a billion dollars gonna click that someone in the face I'm sorry that's mean now we can now.
That you make is not -- -- say anything ever out loud.
Group -- has closed what remained of its -- 950 million dollar financing round because people -- and continued to believe that.
If America's best web site.
And -- consists of diabetic there was ever a bubble its group -- group a lot of the --
The bubble they're doing great things but absolutely does they they are about like while -- value pretty high -- or -- -- by billion dollars.
All day every they are bringing in a monthly revenue though flexibly 500 million per month.
Seriously -- -- members -- -- -- several times they say that they've saved consumers over one point five billion dollars.
-- -- -- --
I don't accept your apology for not knowing that I think you need either respectable thing in just -- -- -- -- and -- it it right now my museum you get what you want it'll just be Meehan Benito has.
-- -- probably don't want.
Now and those in weld and -- -- and -- didn't think that it's all right also the Kindle -- the Mac app store Mac real.
Apple released the Mac -- -- on Thursday of last week during CES it's already the number five free app.
And what we talked about making your platform available everywhere -- like -- Mac app store done.
Our and it also boom -- effect another -- news that wow world war -- cloths were all the more clocked the system.
-- had a -- and -- told the only if it.
They want reminded of via it was twenty hours one -- in the respect that.
While cataclysm sold four point seven million copies of any single month and -- December 7 release.
It is -- related PC games sales record with 3.3 million copies being sold in the first 24 hours I will play now.
That is significant slowing of sales.
But I think it's federal and those things were like competing get it right away then everybody in the Arab League you'll have with -- view.
You're not even know -- -- two of them is our right now.
-- -- a lot of people clinic moving along.
Not as hot but still cool -- the application on your mobile phone with a grizzlies are on the iPhone platform also on Android devices that allows you to.
Bump your phones running the app and swapped swapped contact information has raised sixteen million dollars in funding led by the end Jason Horowitz wow --
So the I believe that I guess there's a lot of money behind bumping your apps well.
Ideal fabulous I mean at CF I was really everything in my -- -- pleasing.
The -- turned back to say that every time attendees bumped -- -- the port it works sometimes and Google but it's it's kind of amazing to me that it could it.
Raise that much money for you know a very simple a case.
It's a basic app it's not like some full -- --
I love the idea obviously been able to switch trade contacts over multiple platforms and I'm just surprised that yes sixteen million is a lot for a company that.
Probably is not -- and is basically reliant on one mobile app bubble.
Maybe the Internet using -- for other stuff like.
-- mobile transactions. On an account name.
Yes our intent don't know what you gonna say -- -- and monetize that I don't know.
Gamma that I WAD tools. I don't know they would -- have to integrate some sort --
Deal typing into it or via bank --
We are now but you don't need it but does it cricket team Bob then if I ever -- to work -- -- -- -- have --
Learn halo let's let's you'll get a New Hampshire.
All right this one I know there's a gadget that was has recently announced it this way you what's your an idol of my -- is on three.
The I have.
A simple our. There is a.
You lose redundant gadgets -- done an entitlement that have mobile.
Actually when it was.
Yeah I thank you -- that NASA has spotted at the smallest planet yet discovered outside this -- on solar system at the new rocky planet.
But the but it's super tiny eight X so planet uber tiny -- the planet so named because it orbits a star other than the sun and -- Kepler.
Ten B but we discard it.
I'm so -- that -- and hated it when they can count as the planet they took away my childhood Pluto is the planet and am I don't care and I don't care dislikes -- -- top of the baby whatever tops.
Pluto as a planet.
That's all I've done and they did say this of Kepler ten -- Kepler can be is apparently out.
-- the habitable zone they say but it is showcasing apparently make the awesome abilities of the current mission.
The current third of discovery mission that they've they've been on them it is the first.
Rocky or earth like planet -- been discovered by Kepler.
Hitler did -- the -- them.
And indeed meant that any of the month yes let's move on to a community where our -- -- --
I am giddy like. Credit culinary -- And it's already does that take my backpack values and as a pillow.
Take my feeling optimistic he -- -- up in the air and just go to my god --
-- I have to say though the -- are happy ending today is via.
Absolutely we had to.
An absolutely unbelievable. The yes and I committee treated -- -- you know I'm not leaving out like god had a great and that's unit -- --
The month that it's really good via a journalist fired -- about the F content is down on.
We're all but we.
Have I know journalists it we do get jaded in the tech world tomorrow that the technologies that main reason every gets down is because it's so.
Hard it's a physical beat down it -- indeed yeah yeah I mean it literally ads for us that's like six.
Minimum fifteen artists Aaliyah at least usually at a rally there from Tuesday to sign their -- -- Monday.
MB -- -- -- Monday -- money in London Monday days of Monday.
-- the Sunday absolutely insane I guess I -- -- handler as a satellite named after Kepler the astronomy astronomer.
And this discovery shows what Kaplan the satellite -- thank you program -- Brittany they make it a sound.
-- smarter than we really eventually because we don't know everything likely we don't know.
Now that Google.
-- -- that -- of their OSS but that was the really good idea.
Of them can do that a days -- CS I don't appear there but we basically we we did something like.
-- ultimately think the hours of live programming we were there all day everyday on the stage of it was.
The nominal and then on top --
It was -- interceding.
It was cool this year the technology. With -- does not evolutionary not revolutionary -- I'd really like bad -- cool technology got an every three --
Like being in a hailstorm of.
-- them -- I mean I was we're not here to to -- -- I mean I'm just proud of what we did what we pumped out we have this cool live stream backpack element that.
Was for the first time like integrated to show that made it feel like you're kind of watching live TV but on the Internet -- we approached it.
And the only -- like we've landed killer interviews you've got this on interview will we first got interview.
Reggie fees and a new president Nintendo -- -- you gotta make liquid nitrogen popcorn.
It did and did I Fred popular laser -- -- -- night stand with Richard -- from top -- in the molecular assignment from -- and it was so often.
Com address and then I think I thought might have had a slightly cool moment on --
That interview fifty -- analysts find the guy all the guy -- -- and you assign us had phones but.
Mended and also our Booth was amazing yeah we had this huge and old -- -- mean -- LED screen on that we can promotes I don't know I just.
All the products you know what.
-- what is -- so because we could talk on and on about ourselves which is known want to hear and we should talk about.
Let in our minds individually kind of stood out at -- yes.
What we really liked that -- first let's do the best of cl yeah it -- a wrap up in case you missed it so we give -- about that CES awards.
And we -- -- -- left to go through all the categories but the top two winners that that the overall.
Best of show award went to the Motorola -- managed matter earlier but -- has Motorola's new tablet.
The honeycomb tablet and Motorola basically had late at 750 million times over the past week that they at a press conference of their lives it was.
In -- -- it was just like boom boom boom boom HX four G -- panic click hero.
And zoom pan zoom and -- -- looks like -- first I mean this line to me you put this and that that's into the prize -- and out oh yeah they numbers like that.
Someone's gonna die insulin might come and kill me after -- -- -- to the island I'm kind of afraid honestly yeah you know what I'm not here to rain on the parade but.
I was kinda bomb that okay yes the hardware on the zoom is amazing but we didn't have an interface -- could even use on the device and I felt like.
Is -- little of it.
With -- there'd to have the -- video and and you could -- move you know go to the gallery a little bit but it wasn't like.
You could act couldn't -- -- -- -- -- you could see the home screen and then you could go into the gallery and that's about it.
So -- and I wanted to see a little more baked product not that I'm I'm not.
I'm not discounting it as you might be the product of CS in the long run button.
When you don't really get a play that likely to the Blackberry Playbook which actually impressed that's from interface standpoint and size.
I still agree with the pick but I just in general I like to -- -- that a little more than a -- like a prototype fish demo.
Yes I think the prototype bog to air the prototyping to be clear not Motorola thought everybody who was working with -- -- of have the same problem to government like where the you know -- an official honey come tablet.
But honeycomb is not baked and that is -- talk about the Google issue.
Their hardware they're saying is -- in that that is where like in terms of hardware you can definitely start making those iPad -- and he got.
Standard front and -- and rear facing cameras it's running in dual core -- original processor.
Which is pretty hot as 32 gigs of on board storage and it's expendable to 32 more.
Standard. It can record an HD with with that camera it supports flash and it uses the Verizon network.
Yeah I'm missing on paper it's also my apparent confidence yeah I do you wanna be -- any commuted like --
I'm sure they -- that -- to date and editors' room rate but it's not -- we haven't seen how you know what how big it really is the look at the hardware specs like appear I read it definitely holding it.
Without a doubt on the level of call the from a -- perspective if not more than the current iPad like when you feel it it feels right.
It's dirty it's sleek.
You wanna make it power under the I want to do more than liquid that have bigger USB port I would.
It's the end still I'm really nuclear. Apology heights. High. Apologized.
-- PR isn't my problem. What is my problem. But Google opens. Its.
It the other day and I am -- and started out update update Brad NPR has confirmed -- Bonnie CNET.
Money -- CNET that the white iPhone will not be available next month it's got white iPhone to -- health.
I know that even when the -- even with a lightweight iphones that coveted spring like it doesn't matter -- it's been the next -- coming out two months afterwards.
What the what -- never coming up.
If I don't think we can -- -- and that we still have the tech.
The sound effect handy it's totally the tank to the argument thank you totally detect you know -- -- know it's -- commanding -- of its next -- thing and tells me nuclear right now -- do we want to talk about.
We do you wanna violate any president -- yet the other big winner the other big -- -- people's.
Voice award went to the RAZR switch blade which is this crazy little gaming network.
Contact and this was definitely don't -- -- the most fact that I'm not the present that the people believe that it was totally.
Let you side -- -- like the so it's a tiny little ultra portable notebook.
Designed for PC gaming so -- in theory it's gonna be this big -- as powerful as a gaming laptop and then it has.
A programmable keyboard so -- the panel.
Of LTD is that had this happen or if I'm having a temper rising about this product during the rest of the F awards ceremony and I'm like the -- -- awesome.
The keyboard programmable I like an individual LCD.
Under each key and then it changes based on what game you're playing like it came to -- and allow onto -- -- and and then.
One of the RAZR by the guys from the company count me after -- -- when -- when things that during that it's not.
It's not individual LCDs -- the panel.
Public volcano on taking back your award them.
And they are now I know like the panel of LCD -- underneath the keyboard so whatever game you're playing it gives you a path to -- -- customize keyboard experience --
-- I think I will tell you that the team from RAZR.
They were like -- they were emotionally touched by the wind because.
I interviewed -- their heads the CEO of the company after -- -- I'm not out.
Five years you know we were nominated we couldn't -- you know we didn't get their recline back and now we finally you know we're recognize and he was tearing up he --
Cheered up -- house like the dominant -- like I felt that -- not used.
When you get that emotion -- you see how passionate people are about this.
It's pretty data and you're only the only reason they -- anything about it -- that passionate about and -- absolutely need you know technologists -- we wanna kind of quickly rundown the CS and our winner yet car tech.
Two it -- and two until -- service -- interface three can.
Install have apps available to cars in their interface on the -- is trick.
Tricks are designed their camera with -- has a split about -- -- the -- they can and throw like a doorknob.
You could stand in -- multiple positions than me I was really sick of want to -- a couple others keep on going doubles.
Yet -- -- -- new category Kim added this year we had to design category to protest prototype category to try to get some of those things that are either vapor -- is like really would like --
Didn't have the -- -- the design was -- ridiculous yes though.
Digital in digital imaging the chemical that's handy cam HD RPJ serious if they -- -- that camcorder series with a built in projector.
Just ridiculous. No surprise in gaming.
Category the 3-D S Nintendo media would pay which is basically like that only gaming and and what are you.
Out that is like not a --
It wasn't even available on the show floor Nintendo had their private suites were you know vendors and journalists can go and check it out -- Reggie is making our state like we said but it what you don't.
In what it won because there is no content even companies that have like creative had that awesome five point one surround sound headset but you can still use voice that.
I went to their Booth and like we knew the 3-D S is gonna winds of -- Saturday -- yet again was already -- now home theater Samsung's BDD 7000 this is an ultra portable.
Blu-ray player and that houses possibly over a decade -- -- like the top and it just raises up and in the CD shoots out.
Like elevates its it was sick.
Mom in PCs or laptops we were that they until sandy bridge chips because that's gonna blow open the category what's possible just for the computers themselves absolutely.
Prototypes Toshiba gets the nod for the -- that 3-D eyeglass free.
Prototype and -- is they were showing up a bunch of TV manufacturers with aren't showing -- glasses free 3-D TV if they had this laptop.
That uses eye tracking technology basically to follow where your looking at the screen and haven't -- to deliver that 3-D image wherever you're looking which would help police solve a little bit of that kind of viewing angle awesome but scary -- on hey Gary I got I mean -- gotta try it out -- -- she was little president at --
It was pretty good I would -- still has some work to be done but definitely works in certain cases --
In certain cases Smartphones the Motorola H explore gene which is the four G dock -- -- that comes at cool.
Last -- it doesn't come with it and there's a cool laptop shell access it is beginning to empower the entire -- up the -- ballot not the big deal about this phone I mean it's it's a dual core phone.
Is running on the four G network.
It has a fingerprint reader.
And the back which -- your hands on them like to bury Japan and very sort of high security like -- make their chemical corporate phone and that's really -- you know --
In a software and services apps unified by Realnetworks this is this is what floored me okay thanks RealNetworks from the grave -- out right.
How it came with the aura they were a zombie third vial and come nearly a third.
And David they released unify and basically this is a cloud service a media cloud service.
The lets you keep track of your music your photos on multiple devices.
Unifies them allows you through their software -- you know.
Play your MP threes from your laptop on your phone and etc. etc. but I just was impressed that.
We -- we have ripped and destroyed Realnetworks -- -- we have beat them down with there AdAware.
-- -- --
And that this unified platform looks amazing and it's it if it does come to fruition and works the way it does it -- -- and a lot of problems and I was floored by it.
I hate managing digital media and if they can really -- it feels a little RealNetworks -- when they inherited the DD dvd ripping pain or that that they hacked.
The Apple platform -- -- -- but.
It would they're claiming that they'll be able to scrape your digital media from basically any service.
And any device and store it in the cloud so that all of your digital media as accessible everywhere which I love.
If it happens in the very idea.
The hold your end service stuff who knows nano but you know let hope springs eternal -- --
-- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- --
The I -- -- rugged portable wind and I know -- third's network doesn't come off them but viewed at the demo of a shot of hard to have with a --
Yeah if they would survive and it did.
So often tablets -- -- Motorola's.
-- -- -- TV is you got videos.
-- of you know -- area.
XVT 3-D six -- series but amazing video. Packed in everything you could think of under the sun.
Cool TV capability on live they gaming service built into the TV also it'll be able to talk Cuba's youth pop from -- devices ever -- a tablet coming out.
-- is via phone coming out but I'm not in addition to all the other video services.
His -- pack so much in their TV it's ridiculous.
-- it was it was it's pretty amazing and they are TV anymore I expected so much from connected TV and they were really the only ones bringing it.
Yeah yeah I was surprised I think I think the connected TV experience really didn't take a leap up other than a few more partners.
Talks to you to buy in it it didn't take any other bigger accounts --
But many many other content providers that depending we have it and it is analyzes -- doesn't leave -- in income.
I've got my favorite thing about their favorite thing for sure because like all those things really need motor -- press conference for me was the most exciting that our.
Samsung all my god.
Samsung is just -- delivering. Facts I -- what -- wrote that now that nine series I'm ninth.
Series laptops how all my god got it pulled the MacBook Air I'm not even lines seriously it makes the MacBook Air look like rap and splattered about crap but this could -- okay.
You know what it is though it's just that this is so sleek -- -- that it's like an -- enemy the MacBook Air look like some flashy Ferrari something -- -- -- -- whatever GB and a link and then they set up an attempt -- that ninety that would literally -- It was.
And literally like health folded piece of sheet metal that was curved.
It's sixteen -- --
It was beautiful idea I can pull up an image I wanna I wanna install a Mac OS on it it's and I can't if you -- --
No because it's on like the hardware was awesome its solid state drive -- top.
It doesn't happen they don't have a CD optical drive a dvd optical drive but.
-- I haven't seen a laptop in a while that may be literally like you know kind of let myself.
And the -- now really everyone without -- -- like Apple mind commitments.
They other thing to do it justice is clearly does that doesn't indicate a disease that is a regular laptop but it's not -- mean it's just like a razor thin land.
It absolutely. Innocent and you know I went back to nab Booth three times and I every time I went I showed people that it now only -- here's the slightly here's a better image that shows kind of the thinness of it.
I just was going crazy and I think they also showed off the seven series which is their tablet that kind of was a convertible like a slide out keyboard that tilted up then.
Look at that look at that it's like a piece of paper it's like -- is the papers that -- crippled and here about Samsung overall though I mean they had eight nominations are best of CS alerts them.
They brought it hard this year they had sold eight it'll.
Unique things even -- like.
The home theater side they had like an AV receiver with an integrated Blu-ray player right.
Like I daughter of the person I was like.
While this is bad ass why does and every when -- and -- absolute genius it was and it was really I mean.
They are making -- the prettiest hardware and business right now and I think they're really putting ads in an egg on whole -- behind sign yet.
It's -- the things that you like I also liked -- getting distracted by little tidbits of am Apple the iPhone or news.
And I went crazy for smart appliances the -- like the first -- that we've really seen smart appliances make an appearance yet and it.
I'm excited about them like they -- like LG had an oven.
That we'll tax you when you could have done -- NE if you if you even go get it then.
But if you don't want to be infected academic you know I'm -- pretty dynamic -- Put it on warm.
Because it works with both a wonder what it does -- typos or something like -- Herman London and go to war Maguire at.
Jay -- we got together some interesting -- -- I've -- -- worked on -- Mac people are now doing the demos that there's a screen shot showing that it's running I OS four point 2.5.
As opposed AT&T -- four point two point one not surprising since they -- enable that.
Hot spot capability that make you wonder what other thing that you -- coming to anyone else although Apple PR says that the personal like -- -- -- feature is the Verizon only.
For now. There was an announcement of -- that somebody said.
And this is the quote from better.
Damn this present iPhone is it just smoked my eighteenth via phone for a moment as this side by side -- did it they didn't speed tests are any of wealth and -- you can hear a thing now.
In a video because video tests.
Please -- parent that's that fit what your favorite and of the deals to be a lot.
I didn't see any of the few that much and get it on file but I love that -- which made the gamer in me just love that his head exploded -- -- I thought -- -- who were all.
Yeah I'm gonna -- that keyboard before.
Optimus -- -- that had that.
Feature where the keys would change if that's on my RAZR actually I don't know high res but I am pretty sure they took the technology or something Tenet learned from that then detonated their select icons pop up for the game -- just like -- -- -- --
Alike to launch a game tonight I'll pop -- EM electing a thing where the -- I like skills with pop up on.
If they stock up to -- the marine that the the move marine keys you press the removal might are easy yet.
Yeah that's pretty impressive visited Baikonur. I guess highlights for -- definitely the most.
There's these Rosa massage chairs -- K arm of the company.
But like neon I don't know I don't even though the name of it and they're probably really mad I don't know the name but -- these massage chairs were -- the -- lie down in them.
And it can it basically text -- your body is like you know truth to it you're not only --
Upper body your legs your feed your arms or hands -- covered in matches your body type to a profile 160 different profiles.
And then because it knows that it can customize.
It was giving me like.
-- neck massage to a lower back massage a booty massage a leg massage but the thought out once and it had the longest line in CES consistently -- -- is in the south hall there are they're always like thirty people line.
But we just did it to do a demo that was amazing -- they were 7000 dollars and chair but.
Probably the most of easy -- I've ever felt hated it and -- like -- -- robotics -- right yeah it was BC robotic massage your suit our producers that came back from that chair.
And she was unlocked and hear -- --
The moon. Let's just after what she came back I thought you visiting the other -- definitely facilities that. Also omelet.
Sarah that -- -- producer.
We revised down for a time bugs you she try to convince -- get teaser.
Why half an -- that sick thing about is like you know that's of value really good video to -- Brian screamed like a little old belittle me.
-- and like.
But I saw a guy do the demo and it made me cry -- --
The -- like the worry the first two seconds.
Are all right -- the last three seconds that you'll really long for the late taser to do to.
Though they -- -- and you could hear his voice teens I was counting of my head in both one and sue.
It was like one too.
And of hell no I -- -- and then it'll pain in.
Olympia I don't want to feel that the UI. I just said now let everything the show since the nine series -- -- pressure.
For fun and the.
I like -- sending -- a jump camera and a it's it's the -- -- -- -- it was a one of -- things but -- that camera with an LCD not only the back.
But on the front so through the silver when turns on -- you can see yourself but then what's really cool about it is they have this jump shot feature where it counts down.
54321 and you can see -- on the display on the front side.
And an arrow to jump and then when you jump it takes three pictures -- passed.
And that's what captures that moment of you'd jump at the jump shot they got their picture -- a camera -- yet you are now believed by the way Howell are out of high AM rank content out.
That picture is in -- they -- like.
Green -- thing I'll bring it in tomorrow like.
Nothing -- my head almost.
Goes out of the border of what they're giant is precinct had -- a low you know when you play the things that you just Cadillac that because sometimes.
The things you never thought of they're actually not technically that and advanced.
Yeah but it's just like when someone gets the idea they go.
Oh my gosh Walla let's do it and then you see it and you're just like.
Florida is make you giggle I love that it monitors yet.
And you know -- I have to say.
To Canada wrapping up like -- that was happening all over the place that the F this year and I was so excited to be there and I'm telling you this is my --
And you've -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- that the last -- and 99 an agreement -- -- -- -- every -- since -- and this one was really there was just a buzz in the area with the -- it really felt like -- -- on the verge of seeing kind of the the feature that we've been describing for so many years come to fruition like it was just you know it was it was -- -- --
It -- those awesome yeah and let us.
And that's good that's schedule reminders house because of how -- -- --
I we don't have any like Kenya we don't have any -- your emails and the show today but there are 700 government is mailbox.
Pluto is planning to enjoy your day but you know and good luck with Sony doesn't have a -- ever -- day we are gonna help them up and down we will be.
We'll have the feedback loop back street tomorrow and but in the meantime BL well that cnet.com is our blog where you can finally to the stories we -- -- they you can email.
But that he has a -- that lets get that we're gonna do it and now you can call us.
1806 -- fix the any -- you think -- -- -- have a feeling that the voice -- I don't know I don't think that's.
Albeit with our mailboxes light there -- -- that said system mailbox is getting people and then it's like the --
So we're gonna delete as many as we can't -- or any other time -- -- this will be some space -- emails that does.
All right -- -- does -- know about our thoughts about even things besides C yes yeah mom I just and then we haven't talked to guys rely so we miss you guys missed you guys that lets you -- those files are have a -- Mara CEO of game.
