Enhanced Super Cruise: It's amazing

Cars
Speaker 1: Super crews with a trailer. It works folks beautiful Speaker 2: From day one. GM's hands off driving aid has worked phenomenally well. It's smooth confidence, inspiring and intuitive, but pushing forward engineers have developed a next generation version that gains new functionality. This enhanced super crews allows you to tow and it can change lanes automatically. [00:00:30] If you're not familiar, super crews, controls, vehicle speed, and steering allowing you to zip along with your hands off the wheel, though, there are a few cuff. The odds you see it only works on certain roads and you have to pay attention. A driver monitoring camera ensures you're always situationally aware and ready to intervene at a moment's notice, not, uh, watching TikTok videos on your phone or taking a nap in the backseat. [00:01:00] I got to experience this system's new functionality firsthand in a next generation GMC Sierra pickup truck at GM's proving ground in Milford, Michigan. Speaker 1: Here I am driving with super crews. I rather not driving. You can see my hands. They're not on the wheel. The truck is doing everything right now, maintaining the speed. I've set at 75 miles per hour. And of keeping me locked right in the center of this lane and with a 5,000 pound trailer behind us, I don't even know it's there. The system is [00:01:30] working exactly as advertised. And when it's doing that, it's completely transparent. You don't have to think about anything. All I've gotta do is keep looking ahead. So the camera and the vehicle knows that I'm paying attention and the vehicle does the rest. Speaker 2: Being able to trailer with super crews, engaged will be hugely helpful. This feature also gives GM a leg up of rivals that are developing similar hands off driving aids or instance. You won't be able to tow with Ford blue crews. [00:02:00] At least when it first comes out, touched on this earlier, but super crews is geofenced and that means it can only be engaged on limited access divided highways, about 200,000 miles of road in the us and Canada. Normally this would not include GM's proving ground though. The facility has been mapped, so the system can operate there. You know, so engineers are able to test it and whatnot. Speaker 1: All right, again, I'm driving right now with super crews [00:02:30] engaged. And what we're gonna demonstrate at this point is the automatic lane change feature. So we've got a Cadillac crossover up ahead of us and it's driving just a little bit slower than we are. So as the Sierra here gets closer to the Cadillac, it's gonna recognize the vehicle that's in front of us. It just beeped at me. And now it's changing lanes automatically. How cool is that? So it changed lanes moved us over one. We're going to accelerate past that slower moving vehicle. Once we have moved beyond it, the truck will recognize [00:03:00] that. And then shift us back over to our original lane. It beeped at me there. And as you can see, it's steering itself, gently changing lanes, perfectly seamless. The thing is super polite, too. It even signals Speaker 2: Automatic lane changes another groundbreaking innovation and it works and anywhere super crews can be engaged. This feature can also automatically move a vehicle over if it's in a lane that ends, which is incredibly smart. However, automatic lane change does not work well [00:03:30] towing. And that's probably for the better Speaker 1: Another feature engineers have added to this system is lane change on demand. So if you don't want the vehicle to automatically switch lanes, you can do it by just signaling tap the lever like that. The truck recognizes what you want it to do. And it steers you right over to the next lane. As easy as that, of course, you can do it both ways. I'm gonna signal to the right now and the truck will go back to the lane. I was originally in Speaker 2: Ever since it launched on the Cadillac CT six sedan in [00:04:00] 2017, super crews has been GM's killer app. In my admittedly limited testing. This new enhanced version feels like a significant step forward. The ability to tow with it engaged and the automatic lane change function are incredibly slick features at long. Last GM is pushing this groundbreaking driver aid out across its product portfolio. You'll be able to get new super crews in 6 20 22 model year vehicles starting in the first quarter of next year. [00:04:30] This includes the Cadillac Escalades, CT four and CT five models. The Chevrolet Silverado GMC Sierra, and humer EV pickup. And then by 2023, if it be available in a whopping 22 different name plates, Speaker 1: And now I've gotta drive manually again, we're getting off the track like some schlub. It is what a shame. It.
