Embracing technology at every age — CES and beyond

[MUSIC] Hi, I'm Ko Im here at CES covering all the tech and crunch for 2019. We're talking about the cool tech that we live with, the fun tech that we play with, and the best tech to help us grow as we age. [MUSIC] AARP CEO Jo Ann Jenkins joins us this year. Jo Ann, good to have you with us. Thank you, I'm delighted to be here. People might be surprised that AARP is here. Well, AARP has really been on this challenge to disrupt aging. So we're excited to be here to see what new technologies are out there to help us live our best lives. Technology is there for every generation. It doesn't have to be scary or overwhelming. No, in fact we hope that it's being built To be ageless, that what is good for the young is also good for the old. There is a lot to see here, and it really is about connecting, so why don't we go check some stuff out? Terrific. Great. [MUSIC] In your book, [UNKNOWN] you refer to the [UNKNOWN] as the longevity economy. It seems like the rules of aging are In tech is playing a huge role in that. Indeed, tech is playing a big part of its success. $7.6 trillion of annual economic activity is generated each year in the US by people over the age of 50. Getting technology companies to understand that people over the age of 50 are buying products and services is very key. Well, we have a dedicated smart home section on CNET. Are you a big cook in the kitchen? I am. This is Kohler Sensate is your new kitchen assistant. Hands-free measurement. So, it sets the temperature and gives you exactly how much you need. Excellent. Well, I'm glad you're here. We have some very important things to talk about, but at the top of our list is social isolation. Studies are showing that isolation and loneliness are far worse for our health than things like smoking or obesity. [UNKNOWN]. Well, I know it's important for me to keep a long term healthy relationship with [UNKNOWN]. I'm ready to check out some more innovation, will you come with me? Yeah, let's go. Andy, your job is to look at new products and innovation, how do you keep challenging the status quo?
